I just got back from Cuba on Saturday morning (Montreal-Mirabel), 1:05 am, eastern standard time... Trip report now on Canada 3000
Friday, March 2, CYMX-MUVR (Varadero)
I woke up at 6 this morning... finished to pack my luggage and en route to M-Mirabel (CYMX) at 10:40am (from Ottawa area, 1.5 hour-drive)...
So after parking the car, we went to the Canada 3000 counter. It's about 12:30 and, for the first time we are the first passengers at the counter who is not open yet (the flight leaves at 5:00 this afternoon). After waiting for 30 minutes at the counter, a friendly C3 employee came and assigned us seats 8A, B and C... we had after lunch in Mirabel which was pretty busy (big surprise) and got to gate 47 at about 3:30pm and the aircraft wasn't arrived yet form Puerto Plata. 15 minutes later the Airbus A320 came in. At 4:50 we boarded along other holidaymakers happy to get some sunshine like us. Take off was smooth and we had a beautiful sunset while getting over the clouds at FL 350 for a 3 hour and 29 minutes flight. Wow, C3 service is oustanding and even better than Air Canada... Flight attendants where always smiling and very friendly and talking to the crew's chief was like talking to someone of your family... Her name was Sylvie Arsenault and I'f you've flown on C3 with her, you will certainly remember how much she was friendly and competent. I had ordered a glass of milk with my meal and a minute after she came in with it.
The meal consisting of delicious slices of beef with a fruit salad and hot bread as well as a cherry donut was served along 4 other beverages on such a short flight and the flight attendant won't look at you like a stranger I'f you ask for more water or wine! The flight was overall great altough we were in turbulences during most of it... Landing at Varadero was pretty smooth and we arrived 15 minutes earlier at 8:45 pm.
Friday, March 9, MUVR-CYMX
We had a great time at the Villa Cuba Resort during the week including the tour to Havana... Had a quick dinner at the hotel's buffet and jumped into the bus to Varadero Airport at 7 pm. We were the first bus to arrived at the airport so we runned for the C3 counter and were assigned seats 19 D, E and F. We boarded the A320 at 9:30 pm, 30 minutes earlier with the same large smile of Sylvie Arsenault... Another smooth take off and at 10:15, half of the plane was asleep... They began meal service at 11:00 consisting this time of pasta, Greek salad and Brownie cake... maybe It was because I was very tired, but this meal was not as good as the first one... I fell asleep just after it so I don't know how was the flight after that. We landed in a snow covered Montreal at 1:05 am, local time...
Overall well-done C3!!!!!! You will see me back for sure!!! I may have forgotten something so ask me more questions on my flights or on my trip.

Hi SunAir!
Actually, I can't tell you how was Havana (Jose Mart Intl) Airport because we landed at Varadero Intl... Canadian made airport...
Cuba is a very nice country with beautiful white sandy beaches and only Spanish and european hotel-chain so it's really a different type of holiday (I prefer going there than in Florida actually)... Very friendly people in general in the country and many historic 400 and 500 year-old sites.
Regards, SafeFlyer.

Hope you enjoyed Cuba , from what Ive heard the people are extremely nice and the weather is awsome just like here . Ive seen pictures from Varadero airport and it looks very modern and updated . What was the traffic like during your stay at the airport ???? My guess it was mainly Euro charters at the airport .

Dear Chepos,
you were right, Varadero Airport is very updated (totally renovated in 1998) and has probably better equipment than some U. S and Canadian airports. The traffic was mainly consisting of euro charters (lots of Germans) but had some regular flights too. (Actually, all the aircrafts arriving during the day passed about 800 feet dirctly above the beach of my resort or while I was sitting on my room balcony) so it wasn't like St-Martin but quite good viewing too!). Cubana has about 6 or 7 daily departures from MUVR and during the week, I saw about 25 charter companies... and that is only what I saw... they were more arriving at night that I couldn't see... So, I saw an Premiair A330, 2 BA 777, Eurofly (Alitalia) 767-300, Britannia 763, Sobelair (Sabena) A330, AOM DC-10, Condor 757-300, Hapag-Lloyd (not shure of the airc. type) Royal A310, Air Transat (4 times) A332, L-1011 and 757, Yes L-1011-500, Iberia A340... and more

O. K, I was maybe wrong for Iberia but I've seen an A340 with orange and white colors so I guess it was Iberia 'cause there the only one I know with such colors and operating this type of plane.

A Condor 753? Does that mean that someone chartered a narrowbody all the way accross the atlantic? Frankfurt to Cuba? Is that possible?

Well, the 757-300 was specifically designed for that sort of operation (mid-distance charters) so it is not surprising that it is being flown into Cuba. Cuba has in fact become one of the top Caribbean destinations for German visitors, along with the Dominican Republic (much to the chagrin of smaller, more distant islands like Tobago).
