Hey people of a.net I was lucky enough to fly again this Year. I decided to meet a fellow A.net member in St. Louis so that is why I went to STL. I booked my ticket for a great price and got a really nice Marriott hotel in St. Louis for a good deal.

The Flight
American Airlines
Terminal 4
Gated 42 B then 48A
LAX-STL non stop
Aircraft: MD Super 80
departed at 11:35- Arrived at 5:09 PM central time
Seat 25D

I got to LAX extra early as the security lines can get pretty bad on a weekday morning. I went to the self checkin counter so I could check my bag to STL. That was easy and very quick. Security was not very bad and i waited maybe 15 mins there. I went to my gate and found a 737-800 there and at first I became excited as I thought I may get a 737 to STL instead of the MD80 but it was another flight being boarded at my gate. Then there was a gate change and I had to go to anther gate which is noted above. I saw my MD Super 80 come to the gate and I had to sit on the floor by the gate as there was no where to sit in the Terminal. AA obviously has many customers to fly with them. I boarded the aircraft and saw how old fashion this plane is. Also how small the galley's are inside the aircraft. This aircraft had the new blue seats inside which always makes for a comfortable flight. I never flown a MD80 before so I was amazed with this plane. Taxi was long and it was a bit noisy where I was at because I was next to the galley and back of the the plane. Take off was really long and the engins keept getting louder as we accelorated down the run way. Take off was very smooth and VERY pleasant. Snack boxes and drinks were passed out and then 3.5 hrs of flight to follow. There was a bit of turbulence durring the flight. We also had a all texan crew on board very nice and hospitable durring the flight. I read and glanced out the window durring the flight. The wheather was very warm and sunny in Los Angeles but NOT in St. Louis. Landing and decent were excellent and the MD80 has a very smooth touch down and slow down also.
It was cold and VERY cloudy here. I went into the old TWA terminal and it was sad as AA let it go SOOO BAD inside. It is runned down and does not look like it did when TWA was around in STL. The flight that I was on was totoally Over booked we had some seat problems and some one almost got taken off the plane as there may have not been enough seats. Thankfully that did not happen. As a side note AA has full flights going to STL and DFW everyday and I do not know why but that is a good sign would think.
But still a very intersting airport in any respect. I picked my bag up and went to my hotel to get settled in. I had a great time and i look forward to my stay in the Midwest ( heartland of the USA).

I do not know if you have already done this, but, you should copy your post and e-mail it to American Airlines customer service department. They will definitely appreciate your comments.

I am glad that you got to fly on MD-80 for the first time, especially on American Airlines. I think that AA does keep their MD-80 well maintained, both interior and exterior.

I hope you do not mind flying on MD-80 again on the way back to LAX from STL, if you are do.

Thanks for the trip report.

Edited: I checked the date of this thread... this is rather old trip report.. I did not realize I already replied to your trip report...

There are quite a few people here who don't like STL, me being one of them. I swear they're going to keep putting bandaids (fresh coat of paint here, a few new plants there, a billion dollar runway over on the far side of the airport that creates 3 mile taxiing and wasted fuel for the airlines). Unfortunately, our civic leaders don't have what it takes to do things right whether we have a hub or not.

Sorry folks, but what we got is the best you can expect!
