Usually flights to and from Perth are expensive because of the distance. From Adelaide it is around three hours. However on this trip the flights worked out to be AU$68 each way.

Also this route to me has historic significance because many years ago this where I flew to on my very first flight with the now defunct Ansett.

That flight was on one of Ansett's mystery flights, which was a birthday present one year. To add to the historic significance on this trip I will be in Perth on my birthday.

Check in was quick with hardly any waiting. Passed through security without a problem.

Weather was clear in Adelaide with a smooth take off. All drinks and snacks had to be purchased. On the way over I bought a can of lemonade and chips.
The only entertainment onboard was audio channels. I did not bother buying headphones. I spent the time just staring out of the window and taking a few photos during the flight. The plane was full.

Clouds grew thicker the closer we got to Perth.
Flight was smooth until descent into Perth when the turbulence got stronger as we descended into cloud.

Landing was alright considering the conditions. It was raining in Perth.

Spotting in Perth

Perth is a hard airport because it is in the middle of bushland and can't get near the ends of the runway.
The only spot that is good is the observation deck in the international terminal. There is also a small area with a barbeque etc by the international terminal. These spots are only good in the morning. If it is raining the observation deck is no good for photos as rain gets on the glass.

The only other good spots I found were away from the airport and are in industrial areas that are either side of the flight path. I found these spots good from mid morning to evening.

You need a car and to drive around and find spots yourself. However there is a large amount of regional and flights from other Australian states coming and going all day with a few international movements spread through the day

Got to the airport before the check in counters were open. I was determined to get a good seat. Once check in was open it was a fast and simple process.

Takeoff was smooth with some light turbulence in the cloud. Once out of cloud it was smooth.

Again drinks and snacks were offered for sale. I opted again for a lemonade and chips.

When the merchandise was offered I decided to get one of the model aircraft.

Rest of flight passed without trouble except for some people sat behind us in row 7 who talked the whole flight and drove dad nuts with their constant talking. It did not worry me.

Descent into Adelaide was a bit rough in the clouds. Landing was smooth. Conditions back home in Adelaide were fairly good.

CONCLUSION

When most people think of ‘low cost airline’ they usually think of Ryanair or Southwest. Many have heard horror stories about these airlines.
I was expecting Virgin Blue to be like this, but what I found onboard was friendly and efficient service. I would fly Virgin Blue again.

nice work Ryan, i think most of the time you were here runway 03 was in use and this is a much harder runway to spot from, the weather was pretty shit to be honest too!
