Hey Everyone!
A trip report as promised
First of all, I want to say that this is my first trip report ever, so positive comments are appreciated
PVG-SIN
SQ815
17 June 2005
Equipment: Boeing 777-300
Reg.: 9V-SYC
This was my first flight on a Boeing 777, so ofcourse I was very excited.. I checked a.net before departure, to see what kind of plane I could expect to fly on, and got very excited when I saw it was a 777.. and I was even luckier when I found out that it was a 777-300, so that was a great surprise!
Our cabdriver from downtown to the airport was driving like a mad man, but I gotta say that he was no exception from any other driver in Shanghai
The airport is really nice, and the structure kinda reminds me of Washington Dulles, or am I just totally nuts?!
The check-in was a pain in the butt because of a danish character in my name, they had not seen before, so for some reason it was very difficult to change.. it actually took 45 minutes to change one single character.. lol.. and they had the same problem in Singapore btw, but it didnt take more than 10 minutes to solve.. I only have that problem with scandinavian characters in asian countries for some reason..
On my way out to the plane.. in a bit of a hurry because of the check-in time..
A picture of my plane, and again, sorry for the bad quality, but I was in a hurry so I hope you understand
Everyone on this flight were required to put on this orange SQ sticker befor departure.. I really dont know why we had to.. Quick question: has anyone experienced the same thing and do you know why they do this?
My flight ticket.. sitting on seat 51B but I got my dads window seat
so it was actually 51A
My seat...
A British Airways 777 parked next to us.. "Backing The Bid" livery
Not getting very far yet
Finally ready for taxi to the runway!
Gaining speed... Nice sound the engines make and you can feel that it has a lot of power!
... and takeoff!
many planes parked... cannot be fun to get off from a big plane in small buses
A lot of fields
This is the menu we got.. lol but they gave me the wrong one.. the one I got
was for passengers travelling to and from Hong Kong
shortly after takeoff..
First meal is being served..
It was great with some breakfast, and it actually tasted okay!
Singapore Airlines have a nice distance between the seats, which means that
even I can stretch totally out, eventhough I am 186 cm tall! So nice!
Very very pretty sight.. and its getting better soon.. wait and see...!
at cruising altitude
Time for some super nintendo!!! on the IFE, you were able to play all
classic super nintendo games lol..
But during the flight, the IFE shut down twice in all of the plane, so that
was very annoying especially after I got so far
Looking back in the rear cabin
Should have chosen the tuna instead of the pork.. YUCK!
I spotted these beautiful islands south of China and west of Vietnam..
can someone please help me identify them if they have a name, and is the
landing strip for military use or emergency landing or what?
I spotted them at this location to the left of the plane
We hit some major turbolence 10 mins before landing!
Descending into Singapore..
Getting closer...
TOUCHDOWN!
Spoilers engaged!
A340-500...WOW!!! looks so nice!
my plane again!
Thankyou for your interest in this trip report...
I hope you enjoyed it!

Frederik,
Really nice first trip report. Well done. I look forward to more of them.
As for the sticker, I've seen that a bit with other airlines, often when there are only a few outbound flights on the airline, or they'll use different coloured stickers for different flights. Seems to make it easy to spot your customers and get them to their gate.
Question - as I haven't posted a trip report but have a few nice trips coming up - how do you insert the pictures? Is it just a cut and paste thing, or are you hosting them elsewhere?

Frederik,
Regarding the orange sticker, it is the purpose Chris stated, make Ground Service Agents easier to spot you in case if you stuck at immigration, security checkpoints and so on.
It is one of the little things that Singapore Airlines require Authorised Ground Service Agents do in order to not only provide timely and speedy assistance in case of need, but also indirectly improve their on-time departure performance in certain ports.

I didnt know myself until I studied other peoples trip reports.. I noticed that some of them used www.photobucket.com, so I signed up myself, and uploaded the pictures I wanted in my trip report to that website, and voila!
It should provide you with a link for each picture which you insert in your trip report as was it a picture from a different website.. I hope this helps.. if not, please write me back!

Great report....being able to play Super Mario World from SNES in-flight is so cool...don't think I'd have any trouble keeping myself busy on an SQ flight with that IFE system
As for the unidentified islands, my guess would be the Spratly Islands...

Thankyou for your time to reply, USAFHummer!
Yeah it was pretty cool with the super nintendo function! just too bad I had to restart twice because the IFE went down, but it definately killed some time! The flight didnt seem that long.
I think you are right about the unidentified islands.. I just searched the name you suggested on google, and it looks like it could be right.. there was a lot of small islands.. I just picked three of the best pictures.
They look really nice!

Thankyou all of you for your positive replies!
That is really nice to hear, and ofcourse it would be great with some constructive critizism aswell!
I apologize for some of the pics because they are not 100 percent sharp!
I will borrow my dads camera the next time instead of using my own. I will enjoy doing some more trip reports! Right now I am in Sydney in Australia and I am flying to New Zealand the day after tomorrow, so I think I will do another one based on that flight.
Once again, thankyou for all your comments, positive or negative!

Great report, can only critisize that you didn't try the Maglev train to the airport in Shanghai...it's even faster than the cabdrivers, although hard to believe
Last flight: Sep 21th HEL-CPH on AY - Next Flight: CPH-SAW on H9

The Spratlys are further south and east than the location on the Air Show screen, somewhere near the "K" in "Kinabalu"
The islands are the Paracel Islands (China calls them the Xisha Islands: 西沙群島). They have been occupied by China since January 19 1974, after being seized from a South Vietnamese garrison. They are claimed by Vietnam and Taiwan.
That airport is Woody Island, located at 16 50' 0.70" N 112 20' 41.80" E. It's a military airport and that's Runway 5/23, 7874ft long.

Yes, they seem to do this mostly at Asian carriers. I actually wonder sometimes if it's because there are still a lot of people who aren't accustomed to flying, and having the stickers can allow the ground staff to better help those who might be lost...

Anyway, great! Good Job!
Thanks!
It was pretty disgusting indeed! I would have expected a little better food from SQ but overall, the food was good. I should just have chosen the other sandwich instead.

haha I know I really wish I could have tried the maglev train. We didnt really think about it when we landed, because we were so tired, and on our way back to the airport, when we had to leave, we found out that the train did not start its schedule until 8 am I think. (not sure about the exact time though)

Wow! Very interesting information indeed! Thankyou for sharing! How did you get those coordinates and how can you be so sure on the name of that airport?

I just have a hard time seeing how much this would help. More airlines would use it if it really worked. Maybe I am wrong, but it just seems a little silly.

This summer when flying United out of BKK to NRT we were all given stickers of the 1980s tulip logo- red and blue with a white background. I had no clue why they did this. Once we got to NRT for our flight to ORD we saw many other people with different United stickers- like the one with the UNITED block letters in white, a white "tulip" and a dark blue background. Those passengers probably connected from SIN, TPE, HKG, ICN or some other Asian destinations. Now I know why they do this! Thanks!
My official places of residence are UA953 and UA932!

I am glad you learned something from this trip report. So did I especially about those small islands I saw during the flight.
