Today I will post a report about a flight from FRA to YVR 3 weeks ago.
I bought 2 tickets for this flight this January for just 198€ inclusive tax return. It was a special promotion that did Condor last January (Fliegenpreise). Condor offers very often great deals, for example tomorrow I will travel for a day from FRA to PMI for just 58€ inclusive tax return.
After months the day arrived, the 11th of June, my dad arrived one day before at my home and we passed the late afternoon with some beers. After a good night I wake up 09:00 am and went to the supermarket to buy some breakfast. After breakfast we walked to the bus stop to take the bus to the terminal 1 of the Frankfurt Airport, the Airport is just 10 minutes with the bus from my home. We arrived 4 hours before the scheduled take-off. Many Condor check-in counter were open but on the other side there were many many guys waiting to check-in for there holidays. We waited like 10 minutes and It was our turn. Chek-In without problems we received our boarding cards assigned to the pre-booked seats (14a and 14c).
After that we took the skytrain to terminal 2 to sit down there and watch the birds at terminal II, at terminal II is located a very big McDonals restaurant with great view over the apron with some nice airplanes. Time was running and we decided to take again the sky-train to terminal 1, this time to area a where our gate was located. After arriving we did the security check, we were very lucky because there was nobody in front of us, and the check was made in 2 minutes. We arrived at the emigration and the Federal Border Guard checked the passports without any problems.

The provided B.767-300 for this flight arrived from an other longhaul flight , the plane was deboarded (the flight had very good load).
Our beauty was prepared for our 10:30 hours flight to YVR (catering, cleaning, re-fuelling etc.)
Now all passengers and there documents where checked again. Then after 10 minutes more the boarding was announced, as we had seats in front of the aircraft we were announced at last. Now inside the aircraft I was surprised, the seats seems to be very comfortable.

flight was complete boarded and it was time to say good by good old germany for 1 week.

Our Boeing beguns to move to the runway, passing another Happag A310 with a transit colorsheme.
It was already 02:45 pm in Frankfurt and the 2 Varig flights of the day (GIG and GRU) already arrived from Brazil in Frankfurt, this time with two 777, I hope these birds will not disappear in future…
The start direction was from the east, so we passed the complete terminal 1 and than terminal two, again with some interesting airplanes (Terminal II is much more exotic than the big brother Terminal 1 (Star Alliance) )
Some Russian Airlines + Royal Brunei, Air Canada and Ehtopian Airlines B767 and LTU..
Waiting at the end of the runway to get the ok, first this LH A300 was on turn for landing.
Powerfull take-off of this heavy loaded 767-300 bound for YVR. KE 747 freighter (un)loaded at the cargo city south apron.
You can see on this picture the old small AeroLloyd technique center, and the new LH Cargo MD11 hall, the MD11 hall is still not complete.

Passing the runway-west
over the forest what is around the airport.
just after the take-off you pass Rauenheim and Ruesselsheim (home-city of the General Motors daughter Opel) This city's can not calm down with the heavy lading/starting traffic at the Frankfurt Airport.
The B767 made a big turn to the north, towards Bremen and the Northsea coast of germany.
Here you can see Mainz (capital city of the federal state Rhinland-Pfalz) the separator river Rhine and the capital city of the federal state Hesse Wiesbaden.
Now the captain made his announcement we were just near the coast. He told us that the route of the today's flight was very very north, from Bremen to the north, passing the west-coast of Denmark and Norway, going north passing the northeast coast of Scotland and going norther and norther, passing Island from the north, going over the middle of Greenland, passing the Baffin Bay in the north, cover the Hudson Bay in the north passing Canada widths and going south over the RockyMauntains to YVR.
This routing was very north, normally the flight goes over the UK, south of Island passing Greenland in the south, passing the HudsonBay in the middle over YYC and than finally YVR. I was happy to get the northroute to made some nice pics of the icebergs…

A cocktail service was started 1 hour after takeoff, Condor offers all kind of softdrinks, juices, water etc… also 2 alcoholic bavarages for free Vodka or Gin. I decide to drink a BacardiCola and my dad a beer it costs together 6 Euro….
The costs were ok for the drinks, I was only surprised that they offered the two before mention alcoholic drinks…
I chatted talked a lot with my dad, and the next hour passed very quickly and the lunch was served. We had the choice of two different entrée,
This was chicken, with vegetables and mashed potatoes
The other was filled tortelini with creamy sauce and green asparagus
For both was additionally served a small side salad, a piece of cheese, a bun, some butter, and a cake with strawberry sauce. The quality and quantity was very good. Great service had never thought this about Condor long-haul flights.
The IFE system was ok, no personal tv, just the normal tvs every 6 or 7 rows. Condor sells the headphones for 3 Euros each, but all normal headphones for discman, walkman etc are compartible for the system…
Now it was time to sleep a little bit, after 45-50 minutes I wooked up and we reached Greenland. It was amazing.
after this shoots and some time the sky was cloud cover, ok a opportunity to relax a little bit and to read a magazine (Focus, a german news magazine).
We passed the Baffin Bay and entered Canadian Airspace, wow what a big country more than 5 hour left for arriving and we are entered the Country, and a surprise next service snack beguns I thought Condor will only offer 1 lunch and a snack, but they served 3 meals.
Here a salami cheese sandwich and a Fanta Orange.
Now flying over Canada approaching the north side of the big big Hudson Bay.
The Hudson Bay seems to be very very cold…
Over Nortwest Territories in the middle of nowhere.

Already 2 hours till YVR and the last service was done by the crew, this time for dinner.
Wildrice with vegetables and scalloped with cheese, a bun with butter and a flan, again very good service never thought this for a charter flight, Condor did a very good job.
Overflying a city or mine at the southwest coast of the great slave lake, located at the frontier between Saskatchewan and Alberta in the north end.
Now the few showed us the first Rockys…
We entered British Colombia over Dawson Creek and bound for Prince George, slowly the approach to YVR was made, now 30 minutes were left till the arriving in YVR.
Some minutes before the end of the flight…. The first suburbs of Vancouver …

Creazy weather, sunny at the one side at the other a heavy rain storm.

The terminal says hello to us including a BA 747-400 and a LH BA 747-400.

We deboarded very quickly after that long long flight. The big brother of our airplane the LH 747-400 was pushbacked and ready for the flight to FRA. It was 04:00pm local time. 01:00 am in the Morning in germany,
We made the immigration without problems and queue time (totally different to the USA). A very friendly agent checked the passport and signed it with punch.
We claimed our baggage …
went to the car rent area, received our rent car, and yes we went firstly to the seaplane basis at YVR, passed this B767-300, the holder is Roman Abramovich (owner of Chelsea London and big Oil companys)
We arrived the seaplanes…
After some shots it was time to search the hotel, after 30 minutes and losing a little bit the way we found it.
I was a little bit tired after this long flight, but anyway Condor and the crew made a great job on this flight, just great !!! 10 points for service, food and price.
Hope the report was ok, not always the best english but ok…

Congratulations to this informative report! I have just returned from a week in Vancouver and Victoria with Condor, therefore I was very interested in your explanations.
But my opinion about Condor is not that good. While service was attentive and food acceptable, the seat pitch lacked on proper space. I am not a tall person, but even I felt very cramped. Fortunately I got a bulkhead seat on one leg, from where you have no convenient view to the main monitors.
As I only paid EUR 198,-, I do not focus on a complaint, but I recommend to decide for another carrier if you don't get such a cheap ticket.

the seats on the flight to YVR were very good, the flight back was horrible row 33 or somthing like this on the right site of the airplane... I thought I am a sardine on the way back, it is possible that there is a differnce of seat pitch in the parts of the airplane?

In my opinion, an airline loses the salutation "Charter airline" if they sell single seats to passengers like a regular scheduled carrier. Nowadays many charter airlines do that, sometimes they charge a lot for seats to certain destinations, more than a scheduled one. May I give you a sample:
Austrian Airlines offers flights to the island of Mauritius starting at EUR 1089,-! If I choose AirFrance or British I would pay almost the half in off-peak times.
Assuming that I afford EUR 1089,- (excl. taxes and surcharges), I will be treated with less mileage credit and less entitlements than a scheduled passenger. I know that OS does a gorgeous job, so the comparison probably lacks, but the basic issue is obvious.

Yes, the pitch can vary in different parts of the aircraft. Can't speak for Condor, but if they place (for instance) 10 rows in the front cabin of a 767, it comes out to 32" (sorry for the imperial measures), where 11 rows would be cruel and unusual punishment. However, they can cram 16 rows in the back cabin at 31", and it's not so bad.
JetBlue has greater pitch in their A320s behind the window exits than ahead, for instance.

Great report! I flew the opposite flight than you, LH YVR-FRA a few days ago. I have to say that I was not very impressed, service was good but the seats and IFE were terrible. It is good to hear that Condor is doing a good job on this route. P.S. I have nothing against Lufthansa, (my next flight was awesome), but this particular flight was horrible!

Damn, 198 EUR for a FRA-YVR return flight is indeed a bargain, lucky you! Next year I will also try to get this fare for a FRA-ANC-FRA, hopefully I have luck.
Since Condor is now also flying to Dubai, do you know if Dubai flights get already offered from 29 EUR per flight or do they demand the cheapest long-haul oneway fare of 99 EUR? Well, even if fares start at 99 EUR, it is still cheaper than any other regular flight.

Thanks for a report on DE. It is funny as I have had few flights on DE, and they have almost always been really good. Surprised as they are not talked about often, and it seems they are a hidden gem of Europe.
you know I have a kind of a MBA on finding cheap flights, maybe I should manage your tickets in future ...

well DE is the "German (regular) Charter flight operator.... but yes they are really good for a "charter airline" specially if you booked the "Fliegen Preise" for cheap cheap money!
