Note this is a large photo report there are more than 100 pics!
Also please excuse the quality of the photos as some are awful....

My family and I recently took a RTW trip with MH/VS, they had a very cheap deal in Business Class from Australia, so we thought what the hell!! Once in a lifetime....
Our main ticket was MEL-KUL-PEN-KUL-LHR-LAX-TPE-KUL-MEL in addition to this we had LHR-BUD-LHR on BA and LAX-LAS-LAX on UA.

June 3rd 2005
MEL-KUL-PEN
MH 148, MH 1168

Going into the "Golden Lounge" very nice.....

Overview of the Malaysia Airlines lounge at MEL

We managed to get seats in the old First Class cabin, as they no longer offer First Class on B772 flights

MH's wonderful cabin crew as usual

Menu for today

Starter on today's flight is the famous Malaysian Satay in Chicken and Beef

Well the old C class seats are definately wider and more comfortable to sit in, than the new ones which are narrower, but for reclining and sleeping, the new ones definately take the cake.
Virigins Upper Class Suite are much more comfortable, but I think the distinction here being that it is aimed as a "in-between" First and Business Class product, though that being said if I had to pay what they are asking for on a regular fare, then no way. It's only worth it on this MH/VS combo RTW

Very very nice trip report.

The pic of the lady in the MH lounge in MEL - i believe her name is Anne. This incredible person went back from the lounge to the check in area to fetch my Enrich FFP card which I had inadvertantly left behind, despite the fact that I asked her not to as it is a long walk. Top asset to MH she is  Smile

Excellent trip report !.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your MH/VS RTW ticket ?

It was $5000 AUD or 2143 British Pounds or $3831 USD, a relative bargain for example:
SYD-HKG-LHR VS Upper class between $7000-$8000 AUD
MEL-KUL-LHR MH Business Class between $5700-6500 AUD
and when you look at Australia-USA it's even higher, QF is towards the$10000 region
so in perspective for MEL-KUL-PEN-KUL-LHR-LAX-TPE-KUL-MEL, which if you added up the individual legs would cost triple what I payed it was well worth it.Plus the 150% Enrich FFP points, and we got triple miles on the KUL-LHR and the VS LHR-LAX.

Nice report and good photos!

The MH food and lounges look pretty good, as does the VS Clubhouse.

The VS food on the otherhand looked pretty piss poor in comparison, especially bearing in mind it sits somewhere between J and F.

£2150 also represents superb value for money, I've paid not much less for just LHR-IAD-LHR in J and thought it was superb value!  Embarrassment

It wasnt as bad as it looked, I think the seat comfort factor made up for the food.

It's a standard airfare available here is Australia, I booked through Flight Centre. I think also because the airfare is limited in some respects, you can only fly to where MH/VS fly to. Therefore there are NO domestic flights included in Europe or the US, but MH/VS do fly to many destinations thankfully.

Well would you beleive they are actually improving the whole menu and delivery service, inline with the new aircraft upgrades!!!
