My trip report includes 5 flight, 3 airlines and one alliance. I have also included a lot of pics to accompany the text.
My double vacation this year included a flight to SJO (which I visit pretty regularly) and ATL. Both cities were done in one single trip. A month after returning to Prague, I made my way to JFK and then back.
I fly SkyTeam, so my itinerary was accomodated to fly with airlines of this alliance. I particuallarly like KLM (I´m also a FB member) and I love AMS for transit, so my flighs Europe-USA are done by KLM.

My first flight was to ATL via AMS in KLM. I´m not going to talk about this flight, since I don´t have pics to accompany the text. In ATL, I bought a new camera. On the flight ATL- SJO with Delta, I wasn´t able to get any pic, because I was so very tired from the time change.
My real trip report starts out of Costa Rica. Enjoy.

I hate San Jose Airport. It´s just too small to handle so many people. The airport was extremely crowed at 5:30am when I arrived to the airport, since every US arline leaves SJO around 8am. Queues everywhere, people standing, sitting, a real, real mess.
I finally proceded to the check-in, I had to literarly “box“ my way there. The not-so-nice agent told me the flight is overbooked and that he will not give a boarding pass with a seat number. I was supposed to ask 5min before boarding to see if there is any seat left. I was kind of insecure…
It took me another hour to pass through security, which was again, crowded. Awful. Then I walked toward my “gate“ which only was a door leading to a bus which would eventually take us to the aircraft.
5 min before boarding, I had no seat. At 7:45am, my name was called and I finally get my boarding pass. I was seated in 1A!!!!!! I was so happy: a). 1A is like the dream of any airline fanatic b). I would try DL´s bussines class product.
I boarded among the first (via a bus) and took us to the plane. I was greeted by a nice, older flight attendant and took my seat at 1A. I was offered a glass of champaigne or mimosa. A bottle of water was already ready at the little table between seats. he captain anounced a delay due to weight problems since the plane was 100% full. We finally took off at approx. 8:26am of runway 07 in SJO. I had a beautiful view of Arenal volcano (see pics) and the forests below.
After reaching cruising altitude, the capitain came up and told us about our flight path, the duration of the flight and so on. Then, the F/A´s taking orders for a drink and the meal. I had a pre-ordered vegetarian meal, but since I was supposed to fly economy class, the meal was economy standart. It was cous-cous with eggplant mixed with tomate. Tasty.
I had a coke in a glass cup (a nice change from the plastic cups in Economy) in the apetizzer was served. I was a croissant and a plate of fruits. All was served on porcelain and with silver cutlery.
As soon as I finished my fruits, I was served the vegetarian meal that was brought from economy. The rest of the bussines class passangers got a fancy egg omelette, which was smelling throughout the cabin.
After the meal was collected, another round of drinks were handled and the F/A´s handled the US Immigration forms. I filled them in and looked through the window. I had some beautiful views of the Caribean islands and latter, Key West which was clearly recognizable from the plane.
We started descent and landed in ATL, runway 9R almost on time, only 13minutes late even thought we took off 26minutes late.
I left the plane with a visit in the cockpit that I previously requested. I passed customs and picked my luggage. I was in Atlanta again, now for 4 more days. Then I would be flying home to Prague.

Check-in was a breeze, as I arrived more than 4hrs before take-off, so I was among the first ones to have checked in. I checked the Aiport Plaza and headed toward the gates. I arrived more than 2:30hrs before boarding to the gate and took a look at the handsome 767-300ER in the awsome livery of KLM. This particular plane was build in 1996 and have a serial number of 27610. Aside it, a Delta 767 bound for Moscow and a LH A340 bound for FRA. A weird experience: I saw a DL flight to Paris where 70% of the passangers waiting at the gate were US military people among some bussinesman and regular civilians. Does anybody know where they were headed??? Why US military travel in civilian aircraft???
Boarding started first calling Bussines class people and Elite Skyteam card holders. My row was called in the middle and I boarded welcomed by two very nice-looking Dutch F/A´s. I seated on my seat which was very confortable. I had a perfect view to the overhead TV, so no problem there. F/A´s handled before take-off the headsets, blankets and pillows were in each seat already. We took off from runway 9L after 4 Delta planes and almost 10 planes were on line already waiting. ATL is a pretty congestionated airport.
After take-off, drinks were offered, I had a coke. With the drink, I received a big bag of pretzels, because peanuts were not available yet (I prefered this big bag of pretzels against a really small bag of peanuts that are not my favorite…).
Hot towels were passed to clean hands and I received my meal first, since I preordered vegetarian meal. I had rice with steamed vegetables, a dessert and a piece of really good, hot bread and a little bottle of water with the meal. I forget to took a picture of this food, I´m very sorry J. I would give it a 7 out of 10.
After trays were collected, I watched the movie ”Hitch” which was really good. Then, I read the inflight magazine Holland Herald witch I found so so so interesting that I lost almost 3 hours reading it. I think HH is one of the best inflight magazines out there, since it has nice, readable articles and a considerably low amount of ads in comparison to Continental´s magazine, for example.
Next movie shown was ”Racing Stripes” to which I did not payed any attention, since I was reading HR.
Then I took a nap for like 40mins and breakfast was served as we were about to touch Irish teritory.
During breakfast, a Mr.Bean episode was shown. It was great, everybody was laughing, I think KLM scored high with Mr.Bean. We got a nice box for breakfast (again, I had vegetarian breakfast). It contained a sandwich, a granola bar a yoghurt and a little bottle of orange juice. I would give this meal 8 out of 10. Really good. Of course, F/A´s offered drinks, plus coffee and tea.
We started our descend above eastern cost of England and landed in Amsterdam on time, taxing only like 5min.
I said goodbye to the crew and left the plane. It was very sentimental, since I don´t think I will fly in a KLM 767 ever, since they are changing them for the A332.
The crew of this flight was one of the best, always alsking people if they don´t want anything else, etc. The purser was just great, one of the best I ever knew on a transatlantic flight.
In counclusion, I had a very very very good flight with KLM, great aircraft, excelent crew, good meals, etc. I would give a 9 out of 10 to this flight. Really good.

I boarded the plane of my national carrier after a really enjoyable tranfer in AMS, I love AMS. I seated at my seat at the back of the plane and stared a Jet2.com plane arriving to the gate on my side. On the other side of the plane, a Lithuanian Airlines plane bound for Vilnius was pulling.
The purser announced we will be delayed due to busy European skies. Can anybody confim if this is true or is this just a plain excuse???
The great gesture was that since we had to wait for 20min at the gate, the crew passed a round of water. I was really impressed. An american carrier would never do that.
We finally taxied toward the runway and I saw a KLM B777-200 taking-off a paralel runway. It was PH-BQI which will result in the plane that will take me to JFK in a month. What a coincidence, right??? But let´s not forward the report…
We took off powerfully and soon after take-off the crew handed a box with a sandwich, a cookie and a cup with fresh pinnaple. It was really good and I was surprised by the level of service. I took a glass of orange juice as the drink.
After the crew collected the boxes, they quickly passed with another round of drinks (I took a Coke) and prepared for landing.
We landed 10min late, on runway 24 in Prague. I was again home.
I was a great flight, it was a shame it was so short. Great crew with extremely good service. I was really impressed by the level of service. Better than KLM did on PRG-AMS flight in a month…
I would give a 10 out of 10 to this flight and would like to congratulate the crew, really, amazing flight, thank you very much.


I had a great trip to SJO and ATL with very very good flights. KLM and CSA were exceptional, I cannot judge Delta since it was Bussines class and I´m not a bussines class expert.


After a month in PRG I was ready to take my second trip this year, to NY. I was kind of afraid since the London bombings happened just a week ago. Not of the flight, but how would NY look with the new security measures…

Check-in was a breeze and I proceeded to gate B5 where a KLM 737-300 was waiting. It was PH-BDC named “Cornelis de Houtman“ that was build in 1986 and the serial number is 23539. We borded late, and were greated by two male F/A´s. But these were for bussines, we were served by a nice F/A with afro. We took off late. After take-off, the usual round of drinks were made, then the meal. It was a nice, surprisingly not-dry sandwinch (I was surprised it was so big) filled with dried tomates and herbs. Another round of drinks were made before landing.
Since KLM knew they were going late, they announced that 3 pax (2 heading to Paris, 1 to Newark) that after landing, they should proced to a tranfer desk. The captain said that if they run, they may catch the connection, but he reccomended to go the tranfer desk to be redirected to Air France flight (Paris people) and a Continental flight leaving in 2 more hours (Newark people). I had almost 2hrs in AMS, so there was no problem with me.
We landed 30min late and proceded to gate D47. We de-borded and there was a KLM agent standing with tickets in hands for people who would miss their connection. Very nice customer care by KLM, definitely appreciated by these 3 pax.
I was a good flight, I was delighted by the size of the sandwich and the costumer care by KLM, but the inflight service was not so good as CSA´s a month ago. A 8 out of 10 would suit this flight perfectly.

As I said before, I saw this plane take-off a month ago while I was on the CSA flight to PRG. What a coincidence, right?
I boarded the plane, PH-BQI “Iguazu Falls“ builded in 2004 with serial number 33714, looking at a KLM 744 Full Pax PH-BFL “City of Lima“ bound for Osaka Kansai. The F/A´s greeting were nice looking and I proceded to my seat.
I found the PTV. I was so, so, so, so exited about this, I took like 19476954844 pictures only of the PTV.
We took off on time, very powerfully. The interior of the plane was vey ellegant, and very spacious looking. The desing of the overhead bins is very particular and ellegant.
During taxi and take-off and the time it took the PTV to warm up, the airshow map was on . It took kind of long time for the PTV to turn on after take off (like 30min, when we were already over Britain). The PTV was warm and hot and after it was warm enought, the airshow turned off and a video demostrating how to use the PTV was shown.
There was a selection of more than 50 movies of every genre. Also a wide selection of comedies, TV programs, documentaries, short films, news, sports etc. Also, the audio selection was pretty wide. A great part of the PTV was the games part. I played chess with an unknown passanger from the plane with the multiplayer connection. They I played trivia and solitarie alone. There were aprox. 20 games to choose from.
Now, to service. A pack of peanuts was handled and a round of drinks was served. Then came the hot towels. Againg, I received the meal first, since I have preordered vegetarian. It was pasta with a sauce and a mixture of vegetable. Really tasty. I had iced tea as a drink. I also picked up a warm bread the F/A´s were handling with traditinal delicious Dutch butter. Really, really good.
I watched “Assault on Precinct 13“ (I enjoyed this movie) and “PS“ (really stupid movie). Then I watched a travel program and a Animal Planet documentary. I also played games. My time passed extremely quickly with the PTV, so the 7:30h of the flight were very short after all. I whised I was enroute to MNL or somewhere where a 777 flies like 12hrs.
Drinks were passed constantly and we were invited to go to the galley to take a Kit.-Kat, chips or something. In the middle of the flight, we were handed a really delicious Belgian ice-cream, flavor: lemon. I really like this tradition KLM has of giving pax ice-creams. It really refreshes, specially if the ice cream is good, which this one really was.
I was handed later a extremely small veg. Sandwich while the rest of the pax received a huge turkey or chesee sandwich which looked really tasty. Since I was not hungry, I didn´t mind that much, but otherwise, I would´ve asked the F/A for a cheese sandwich.
Shortly before landing, the F/A´s collected the headsets and PTV´s were turned to airshow. We began descent over Long Island and landed smoothly and tenderly in Runway 22L.
The taxied to the gate and left the aircraft with a nice impression about KLM and the PTV specially. The serivice was great also, so it was a great combination.
It was one of the best flights I´ve ever tooked and will remerber it forever. The aircraft, only 8months old was great, the PTV incredible and the crew very friendly, helpful and smily.
I left the plane in extasis- a great flight and I´m in New York!!!!! Now (I didn´t know it yet) I was about to enjoy one of the best holidays in one of the best cities I´ve ever known.
I would give this flight a 10 out of 10, nothing was negative, nothing.

I´m not a ATL expert, but I can assure it was coucouse E.

I´m taller than most of the people (188cm) and I found the legroom pretty, pretty comfortable. I didn´t even crashed my knees with the seat infront of me. Costa Rica is a beautiful country when speaking about nature. Awesome. The people is great, the only problem is that they are kind of filthy, to much trash on the streets, etc. But in general, a great country to visit for summer vacation.

Hehehhe, nope. Look at the picture, It says it all right at the bottom "622". Some Airlines, like Delta, and I think a couple others, mark the aircraft by the registration and not the number in which they got the aircraft... or something along those lines, I think I may be wording it incorrectly.

I have flown KLM four times. I flew JFK-AMS on the B777 (PH-BQD) and enjoyed the flight very much I also flew on the B737 from AMS to MAD and back again and then flew AMS-JFK on the B747-400 (PH-BFL) and enjoyed the flight even though I did not have a PTV, which I have now learned not to live with.

Thank you. I know, the KLM T7 is a great airplane. The PTV is just great. KLM´s service in general is much better than the service offered by most European airlines. And to top it all, AMS is the best airport in the world.
