We arrived at Terminal 6 at about 5AM to a scene right out of Airport minus the horrendous storm. The terminal was hopping for 5AM. As I got out of the taxi, I saw a huge line for skycap service and near the conveyor belt where the skycaps send the bags on their way, I heard somebody in charge yelling about how there were so many backed up bags and it was only 5AM. There were about two or three carts of bags waiting to go down the conveyor belt.

Since the line was long, we went inside to check in. There were tons of check-in kiosks and friendly employees to help (not that I needed it hehe). After checking in, we dropped our bags off at the counter. My only complaint was that we weren't given a ticket jacket and the tickets were so thin I almost lost it a few times.

I couldn't understand why so many people were waiting for curbside check in, and there was even a ton of people on the normal counter service line. Perhaps they aren't aware that they could check-in otherwise? I'd imagine that most of them would use the kiosks in a second if they knew how easy it was.

Anyhow, we took a quick walk around the terminal and were all quite impressed. We hadn't flown jetBlue in a few years and the terminal was looking gorgeous. The floors and walls looked polished, the terminal was spotless, bathrooms were much nicer than when right after B6 took over the terminal. Overall, the pre-security area is quite nice and that is saying a lot for an old National Airlines terminal.

Security took about five minutes to clear. Once through, I explored the whole terminal. I was really blown away by all that jetBlue has done inside. They have great food options between solid pizza, Dunkin Doughnuts, a Make your Own Salad bar and more. They even had a mini-lounge with large Blue chairs. And if I'm not mistaken, it appeared that even the light was dimmed Blue. Or perhaps it was the effect of SO MUCH blue being in the terminal!

At that time of morning, jetBlue had 6:00 AM departures to BQN, SJU, and MCO. They also had a 6:20 departure to TPA, and then our 6:30 flight to FLL. A few hours earlier, I had seen that my flight would be leaving from Gate 2. B6 92, LGB-SLC-JFK was due in around 5AM today and would turn around to FLL. As soon as 6AM hit, the agent announced boarding and literally nobody stood up. She then joked, saying something like "Anybody here going to FLL?" and everyone looks up, and then she was like "You could board now" and they all started moving...I guess everyone's a little tired at 6AM. We boarded "Shades of Blue" and took our seats. As 6:30 hit, there were some last second bags being loaded and pax taking their seats. We pulled out a few minutes late I think but it was fine. A minute before we pulled out, an empty A320 was towed into Gate 1 next to us. And as we pulled out, another A320 was waiting to taxi into our gate.

Terminal 7 had several United 757s and America West aircraft. There was some WEIRD plane at Gate 8 or 9 that I didn't get a good look at, but had absolutely no clue what airline it was. It was almost a silverish color but I was unable to see it long enough to figure out what it was. Terminal 6 was packed with A320s as we pulled out and crossed 13L to taxi to 22R. We turned onto the runway and took off immediately. I saw 5 jetBlue A320s parked near Terminal 4, in addition to the usual several Air Jamaica aicraft, Northwest 747, and two El Al 744s.

Wow does time fly when you're flying! I remember ordering a drink and a snack, and between that, a 30 minute nap, and some reading we were already over Georgia. I didn't even watch TV.

We did the usual approach to FLL, passing right over I95. We pulled into Gate B4 and by the time pax in my row were getting off, one cart of bags was already on its way to the baggage claim.

We only had to wait a few minutes before our bags came out all together. We walked to the new Rental Car center which is AWESOME. It's incredibly easy to rent a car now, assuming you're flying into Terminal One anyhow.

Overall, it was a great flight by jetBlue. They really have an incredibly smooth operation at JFK, and I was proud that they've been able to maintain that special service as they grow. My little airline that was flying JFK-BUF and JFK-FLL now has 77 A320s! As any company grows, especially an airline, it becomes more difficult to maintain a consistent level of service but jetBlue has done a heck of a job trying to do so. Good job jetBlue!

I have heard of this being an issue with B6 travelers. For your future B6 flights, you can request your boarding passes to be stapled to a TrueBlue brochure or a questionnaire.

at JFK they have no group checkin...so my group of 50 some odd people had to check in 3 people at a time with agents...but other than that I prefer agents and skycaps...and jetBlue is really one of the few airlines (along with WN and CO/NW) that has the kieosk option, but has agents available as well. Like I said, I much prefer to check in with an agent and espically when flying DL with a skycap.

It is one of the most open terminals I've seen. I don't like the concourse as much though.

It's nice, but I haven't seen the whole concourse. I'll have to make a journey around it some time.

jetBlue...2nd fastest baggage service I've seen behind AA...they had gate checked bags out before the belt was even on

Some people have "special requests", others are not experienced travellers and don't want to risk "screwing up" and then having problems later, still others prefer to check in that way b/c they are not in a hurry and have always done it that way. Also there is the fear of technology. A lot of people I know still do not trust technology, IE, they won't pay their bills online, they don't trust an ATM, they won't use the self-checkout kiosks at the grocery store, etc...it is just a personal choice I guess, albeit one driven by ignorance or unfounded fear. Most of that will disappear with time, as people get more accustomed to technology and it becomes the norm to check out that way. In 20-30 years, airport checkin will involve probably a few help staff, and a massive row of kiosks.

Anyway. Enjoyed your trip report. I will be flying B6 on the SAN-JFK routing and I look forward to it, as it will be my first time on B6 and it sounds like an interesting little airline.

Sure they do. Towards the rear of the lower level in T6, there is a 'special services' desk where they can process groups. I had several school trips during high school with jetblue, and they took us there every single time.

What about DL, AA, UA...?

We call it the under 50 line! I perfer to speak to a human (keep in mind I'm only 18.)...its not out of fear of technology, its because I perfer it. Being in customer service (cashier) I know the importence of talking to a human! If I'm in a hurry, sure, self check out or ATM all the way..but if I got time, why go to the trouble?

I agree...maybe 1 desk.

Well tell that to a group of tourists from Florida who are just dropped off by a bus...we talked to B6 staff and they said there is no group check in.

they're one of the only with an OPTION...DL makes you use the kiosk!

Not to keep this going, but what do you mean they make you use the kiosk? I've checked in at a counter many times with DL. [I've also used the kiosk many times]

at FLL if you get in the line they "encourage" you to use the kiosk...encourage in quotes for that reason.

"Encouraged" like in the term "mandatory volunteerism?" That said, I've only used kiosks and web check-in. I usually prefer the self service ATM and supermarket quick-check.

if there is one thing i despise about b6 is the flimsy paper the boarding passes are printed out on. i have to be SO CAREFUL between where i check in and making it to the gate. other than that, i find b6 out of jfk to be tons of fun--not as fun as AA, but thats bias.

from what I've seen...we've decided that we will reject the mandatory volunteerism by saying we have a few possibly oversize or overweight bags and we need counter service.

I've noticed this at T6 as well, and never really understood it. I've never waited more than 10 minutes to check in inside (human or kiosk), so I just don't see the appeal of the curbside check-in.

That's about the size of it - seems like every airline with kiosks EXCEPT JetBlue nags you to use them to the point where it's downright annoying. More than once, I've seen situations where airlines have employees running around almost dragging people to the kiosks while check-in windows sit unstaffed.
