Yesterday was my first time ever on a 777! I was aboard UA 244 heavy from DEN - ORD. I flew from SAN to DEN returing home to Chicago, but booked the connection flight just to get on that thing. What a machine. Smooth landing and everything! Oh and...props to United for Channel 9 on the headset. What an excellent feature to have to be able to listen to ATC. Every airline should do that if they have the armrest headsets....don't you agree!! Take care everyone.

My first flight on a 777 was BAH/DXB on EK, only a 40 minute flight so just about enough time to read the newspaper, quaff your drink and swallow down your samosa

My first 777 flight was on BA TPA-LGW. We were up front in row 1 C&D (the 2 middle seats up in 1st class in the 1st row). I remember being AMAZED at how quiet this plane was! It barely made any noise up front! Incredible machine indeed

744 rocks in F/C especially. Been on gazillions of 777s, and IMHO they are rather loud in front of the engines.

Hi!
I flew 777 from AMS to KIX on late April with KL and I was very pleased with the flight! I think the 777 is a great airplane, confortable and with KL I also enjoyed the IFE and the amazing crew we had!
But if for some of you the 744 rocks.... well the MD11 is rock-and-roll!!!!

I have only flown the 777 twice.
First time was Air France IAD-CDG and return on a trip to Israel in 1999. Very nice plane and great service.
Second time was on British Airways IAD-LHR and return on my second trip to Israel in 2004. Kudos to BA, as the flight was quite nice.
I had hoped to fly the ANA 777 from IAD-NRT and return, but ended up getting booked on United through SFO and ORD on 744s.
I can't decide whether I like the 777 or 744 better. It seems you have more space in coach in a 747, despite the increased number of seats across, largely due to the virtually vertical sidewalls and high ceilings. However, the cabin architecture and PTVs have their definite advantages.

I was very lucky, my first flight on a 777 was on UA IAD-ORD on day one of passenger service by any airline. The very first flight was LHR-IAD but ours was the first US departure and domestic flight, got a nice certificate from UA and ceremonies at both ends. At IAD about 2 hours before departure the aircraft was available for tours, even had displays on the ramp. A great experience I believe in 1994. I have since flown about 5 other 777 flights on UA plus BA,DL,and SQ !
The highlight of my 777 experiences and always will be was making the run out to SEA to watch/take video/experience the maiden flight at PAE, of Boeing 7771 heavy, what a great experience seeing the first takeoff, landing, and even listening on the scanner on the Boeing freq hearing the crew, chase plane, and ground crew go thru things like raising the gear for the first time, just amazing and unforgettable !

Whilst it is a superb machine, as Lari (Lufthansa747) said, ahead of the engines she is a noisy bird, for that reason I prefer the A330 & A340, from a pax point of view they are far quieter.

I don't fly F/C, but I agree that the 747 is preferable to the 777 for noise in coach as well.

I second that.
Furthermore in Eco, the 2-4-2 config of Airbusses is far superior to the 3-3-3 config of the 777.
Avoid 777 with 3-4-3 config in Y ! They are real sardine cans. (AF/KL for example)

My first 777 flight was on Air France ATL-CDG. While I did think the plane was great I have to say it was the most uncomfortable flight of my life. I never before been so cramped in a plane.
I did find the 747-400 to be much roomier when I flew on it for the first time to Auckland back in June.

Mt first 777 ride was with AA BOS-LHR Business Class about 4 years ago in with Winter. Along with a CDG bound AA flight we were the only AA flights to Lleave BOS due to a heavy snowstorm. Flight was good riding up front as the service was really good due to AA having $$$ back then.

Neither can I. I would try by saying that I love the 747 most as a plane, but I slightly prefer flying on the 777. I have been on a couple of trips that involved switching from one to the other with the same carrier, and the 777 appeared brighter, with more space per passenger. But we're talking about two magnificent planes. No need to decide.
I've flown thousands of miles and I can tell you it's a lot safer than crossing the street!

I remember flying out of ATL on United once and when another pilot wasn't following the order to go to a higher flight level the controller suggested that the pilot pull back on the stick as he (the controller) learned in flight school when the pilot asked how to get to the higher level. I don't remember the airline involved but I laughed and cringed at the same time.
My first trip on a 777 was Delta from ATL to MCO in BizElite. Brand new plane loaded with tourists going to the Mouse House. I remember a little French kid who wouldn't stop screaming at his dad and then punched the stewardess. I wish they would have kicked him off the plane.
