AMS-LTN On EasyJet B737-700 (+pics)

Hi there again,

after writing some tripreports here before, I decided to do so again.

Me and my boyfriend decided to take a few days off to London in September, just a few weeks before we will move into our new house. To keep the costs of the trip as low as possible, we decided to check the airfares on easyJet.com and found good offers, as we paid around EUR 30 incl. taxes for each single flight per person. Not bad at all in our opinion. We booked onward to London Luton airport, which is located North of the city, and which is served by either B737-300 or B737-700 aircraft. Backwards, we opted to take a flight from London Gatwick (which is located South of the city) and which is usually operated by one of their huge fleet of A319's.

As we had to work first on our day of departure, we booked an early evening flight out of AMS. After the short ride by train to the airport, we saw check-in desk 31 (!) assigned to our flight. Wow, this is the new Terminal 4 at AMS. Currently still under construction, but completely assigned to lowcost airlines. But, because the construction works, aircraft are still parked on gates of terminal 2. So that means... a long walk

On checkin we were told to board our flight at gate D8. First we went through security, which takes nowadays longer due to more strict checks. After 15 minutes we were ready there. A long walk to go now, but a great opportunity to show my boyfriend some part of the airport. He's not a big air traveller, so hasn't been there before. We walked along gates F and E, had a drink in the bar of Holland Casino, and watched some famous paintings in the small 'Rijksmuseum', which is located on the first floor between gates D and E.

We arrived just in time at the gate, pre-boarding started. Also here, all passengers must pass security again, put the bags and other stuff (again) through a x-ray machine. Quite annoying checks in our eyes... but if we believe others, they're neccesary  

Our aircraft came in on time, and to our surprise we saw it was G-EZJD, the one with 'Big @ Gatwick' markings on the lefthand fuselage. Nice   Some 10 minutes after the arriving flight, we were allowed to board. First Group A passengers (lucky us..) and later also B, C and finally group D. The latter only able to find middle seats  That's why we checked in early, and had our window seat now.

Next to us a bmi baby flight for Birmingham was ready for departure.

Boarding was done in time, even for this flight which was nearly 100% fully booked. Announcements were made in both English and Dutch. The safety demonstration is still given manually by the crew on easyJet flights. Only a few minutes late, we were pushed for departure. Captain did a small word about the good weather on the way, the flight time of approximately 40 minutes, and the quite fine weather in the London area.

We had a very short taxi ride to the beginning of runway 24. No queue, so a quick departure was expected, and so we did...

After takeoff we saw clearly 2 other runways (18C-36C / 18R-36L) on our righthand side. Some later we also saw our hometown Hoofddorp, even our new build house were we move in next month, and the coastline. It was a little bit hazy outside, and soon the ground became almost invisible for us. For the rest of the time, we listened to some music on our MP3 and CD player  

After reaching out 'cruising altitude' of 21000ft, we quickly started our decend again. The UK coast became visible for us and a little later we flew over the typical British fields. The crew got the message to prepare for landing. They checked very professional all seats for any handluggage, and told some passengers to stow it carefully in the overhead compartment or in the seats in front of them. They didn't miss anything   

Finally we smashed onto runway 26 at LTN, and saw a Thomsonfly.com B757-200 waiting for takeoff. Engines were put in full reverse, which caused a lot of noise in the cabin. Typical Boeing 737 sound anyway  

This comfortable flight with easyJet came to an end at stand 8, and we disembarked on the front of the aircraft. After immigration, we found our luggage on the belt.
Our conclusion about this easyJet flight is that they are very professional, well trained staff which takes safety very seriously and an aircraft with a good maintained cabin interiour. It all looked very nice again. They even flew on time! The flight was worth our money every cent (or pence )

What we also noticed is the short amount of time for the crew to sell food and drinks on this flight. They couldn't serve all passengers, due to the short flight time. Could this be the reason for easyJet to reduce in flights between UK and AMS ?? They can probably make more money on longer flights...

Our transport to the city (Baker Street underground stn.) was booked on easybus, another company of easyJet group. A nice comfortable minibus drove us to the city in 50 minutes. For only GBP 2.00/pp this is recommendable as well!

Soon to expect also the return flight LGW-AMS...

Nice report, i had to fly easyjet last week (due to a trip with my class) and hated it Big grin
