A typical mileage run, without much time in Los Angeles. Pretty stupid if you ask me, so I ended up changing the return to one day later, and from a 753 to a 752 bizfirst flight from LAX to EWR.

Sun 04sep05 CO1703 Los Angeles 8:10AM Newark EWR 4:30pm 757-200 Breakfast
Sun 04sep05 CO1792 Newark EWR 6:15pm Orlando FL 9:12pm 757-200 Dinner

On the day of travel I went to the airport pretty early, entered the parking garage about 2 hours prior to departure. Guess what? No empty parking spots. Probably because it was Labor Day two days later. After about 30 minutes I found one on the top floor. For the first time I used CO’s check in machines and I had boarding cards for both flights in my hand within a minute. TSA is no problem at MCO. This was my 4.th travel from the airport in two months and TSA have never been a hassle. Short lines and the staff are not grumpy.

Pre-boarding of 1.class as usual, and pre-boarding drinks. I chose Heineken. The rest of row 1 was occupied by a man and his small sons. They were about 6-8 years and well behaved. Having a short kid in the aisle seat is actually pretty nice, since you don’t have to bother him stepping over his feet getting to the lavatory.
1F has a nice cutout in the bulkhead, but you have to have your feet at an angle to make them fit. Here is a picture of the cutout and my long legs

We pushed back on time, and made a short taxi to 36R. No line at all, and we were in the air shortly after.
The flight was at lunch-time, so the meal on this flight was lunch. This is probably the best domestic meal I ever had (until later that day). It consisted of broccoli and cauliflower soup and salad with baked salmon. When eating the meal, I started wondering if my grandmother in Norway had joined the airline catering business, it tasted just like her cooking. I was SO impressed, and felt a bit homesick! The meal tasted a lot better than it looked, and I chose a merlot and water to accompany it.

The rest of the flight was uneventful, the flight time this day was 2 hours 2 minutes. Since it was a 733, there was no entertainment. It was totally fine by me, I had books, minidisk and ANR headset. I also got a couple of more glasses of merlot. Actually, this merlot was a lot better than some of the other cheap wines that is served in the air, but I did not get the name of it. On approach to EWR, I took this picture

We arrived 20 minutes early, so making my connection was not a problem at all. Pre-boarding started early, and it was so nice to be back in the 75 bizfirst-cabin again. It really brought back some nice memories. For pictures of the bizfirst-cabin, see the trip-reports I linked to in the beginning of this report.

After settling in my seat, the purser greeted me, gave me the menu for the flight and asked if I was familiar with the seat and entertainment. Then the FA took drink orders, and of course, champagne for me. Not the very best champagne, but it was at least real champagne, not just sparkling wine.
The menu for this flight looked promising.

Departure was on time, and shortly after we headed west. Then more drinks were served, along with warm nuts. A nice start on a very nice flight!

The shrimp and crab-meat was really tasty, but I did not eat to much of the sauce. I don’t like to spoil nice food with too much sauce that takes away the foods character. The salad was better than airline salad usually is, a little bit more fantasy. Still way behind my own salad of course, but good anyway. For those of you who have read my previous CO reports, it is probably needless to say that I continued with champagne.

Main course on this flight was duck. My duck-experience on OSL-EWR in July was very pleasant, so I had my hopes up for this course also. This portion was actually a little smaller, and a little less tasty, but very good anyway. Probably a lot better than the steak so many airlines serve, or the yucky rack of lamb. Sides were mashed potatoes and small vegetables. For the duck, I opted to quit champagne and enter merlot, which matched pretty nice.

About time for a wing views, the first from the farmland south of Chicago

Then it was time for dessert. I usually do not eat a lot of ice-cream, but I really enjoy it when it is served like this. All in all, the entire meal was just like EWR-OSL-EWR, except for the cheese and port.

A nice way to round of a nice meal is with coffee and cognac. The FA filled up the glass more than usual (the picture was taken after I’d finish half of it), and after two glasses I found it wise to hand the glass and coffee cup back

By now, I was watching the longest yard and had reclined my seat pretty far. I was seriously considering a nap, but decided to get a GT first. I asked for a weak one, since I don’t fancy the 70% gin, 20%ice and 10% tonic drinks. This one was really weak, and I was given the little bottle so I could mix on my own. A nice touch!

Then I had a little nap, and woke up just after we crossed the border to CO. This is a picture of a pretty strange formation; I have no clue what it is!

Since this report contained so many pictures, I will put the pictures from LAX and the return in a separate report. I will also put the grades and conclusion in that report. Stay tuned!

Mikkel777,

Stunning pictures and great writing: enjoyed it a lot - thanks !!!

Food looks mouthwatering, however, the way they serve the soup (picture 2) and the sauce with the shrimp/crab is a no-no: the cups look dirty and should have been cleaned before serving IMHO, unless you ate already before taking the pictures (which I doubt you did)...the sundae looks awesome !!!

don't throw away tomorrow !
