Thursday March 22nd 2001, Paris.
It is 2045 when my taxi pulls up in front of my building. I pick up my suitcase and walk down the 2 flights of stairs, open the door and hand my suitcases to the driver who is surprised to see me in civilian clothing.
He works for a taxi company that Air France uses to pick up its employees. I am entitled a ride for all flights departing or arriving between 2301 and 0518.
Air France 416 which is going to fly me down to Buenos Aires leaves CDG at 2315.
Our drive to the crew center is really short and we get to CDG on time. I Thank him and sign in. I am given my ticket and I join the rest of my crew downstairs to get our bus to terminal 2 hall F.
There are 14 of us and I am the 3rd most senior flight attendant on the flight. This shows just how much Air France is recruiting.
Terminal 2F, we get off and check in for flight AF 416. The terminal is empty and we get taken care of very rapidly.
We are checked in cabin B of the B777-200 in l'Espace Affaires and my seat is 9A.
We all head towards our gate and seat down waiting for boarding. A couple of minutes later we are told that boarding will be delayed. Everybody is calm and there is no screams from the customers.
After 30 minutes boarding is started.
F-GSPA will take us safely to Buenos Aires and the aircraft is caring proudly its new SkyTEAM logo sticker aft of the flightdeck windows.
Tonight's flight isn't so full and we are all on board within minutes.
There are 5 cabin attendants who will look after the 42 passengers seated in l'Espace Affaires.
I settle down in my seat, get my magazines out and flick through the Air France rendez-Vous magazine containing our video and musical program.
The crew comes through the cabin with champagne and orange juice. Champagne thank you ! and later with news papers. We are offered oshiboris and the menus follow up soon after.
The lightsare dimmed as take off is approaching.
And its a lift off ! We are in the air for the next 13 hours and 30 minutes. Tomorrow morning we will be in Argentina.
I look at the menu and I can read :
Choice of Hors D'oeuvre
Roast guinea fowl with rosemary, herb marinated cheese, sun dried tomato and celery, pine nuts, gourmet salad, walnut oil and balsamic vinaigrette
Fillet of red mullet, tomato sauce with olive oil, sun dried tomato, gourmet salad
Choice of Main Courses
Pan seared sirloin of lamb, sauteed porcini mushrooms with herbs, potatoes au gratin, provencale style tomato
Monkfish and rockfish stew, saffron potatoes
Our Special Selection of Cheese
Camembert, Comte, Rigotte
Chocolate Szechuan pepper tart
Raspberry, Apricot or lime flavored sorbets with cookies
I went for the guinea fowl starter which was very nice and there was a lot of it.
The lamb was stunning particularly with the herb mustard I was offered. Other choices were Dijon mustard and Whole grain mustard.
Cheese was excellent too and the best part was the chocolate cake. I must say that Air France has mastered the Chocolate cake with such briothat they should be awarded the best chocolate cake airline !!! They come up with a new recipe each time and it is always so good !
Tea, coffee and liqueurs were offered just after.
I watched "La verite si je mens 2" for the second time during dinner and fell asleep just after dinner and before the movie finished. 5 hours later I woke up and went to the bar for a drink of water and fruit juice. The buffet was dressed up with Fresh fruit basket, 4 kinds of sandwiches, cookies and dried fruits.
I had a chat with the crew and went back to my seat for a read. i am reading Memoirs of a Geisha for the second time now ! Love the book.
An hour and 30 minutes before we arrive in Buenos Aires wa are served a hot breakfast.
Coffee, tea, hot chocolate
Scrambled eggs, green asparagus tips and roesti potatoes
Crepe filled with apples, apple slices and cinnamon
Fresh bakery selection, breakfast pastries, butter and preserves
A cup of tea, a glass of water, the crepe and a couple of croissant made a great breakfast for me.
We were hand out the landing forms and started our descent to Argentina.
We arrived with a 15 minutes delay and were out of the immigration lines thanks to our crew status within minutes. We picked up our bags and headed to our hotel, The Sheraton on Plaza San Martin.
A little nap after a nice shower and tonight we will go to the crew lounge for a drink with the whole crew; 28 of us !

Hi Captain Picard
Comores is no longer served by Air France
Nairobi also discontinued
Comores is badly served now
The only scheduled service is
Air Madgascar ATR
Inter Air 727
Air Tanzania 733
There is often a problem with fuel there which is one
of the reasons Emirates cancelled their service there.
There is a rumour of a new French owned airline
which will be operating charters to South Africa
and Paris called Indian Ocean Airways.
