Im behind on a couple of trip reports, but I decided tonight was a good night to get caught up. This one isn't that long, but I hope you enjoy it.

Friday, October 7th
BDL-DTW
Northwest Airlines 1177
Airbus A320SR
Scheduled departure time: 411pm
Actual departure time: 430pm (wheels up at 4:50)
Scheduled arrival time: 6:08pm
Actual arrival time: 630pm
Departure gate: Gate A5
Arrival gate: A72
Seat: 5A

Late due to both inbound aircraft delay and also slight ground hole (ten minutes or so) after pushback. If i remember correctly, we had a takeoff time of around 4:50, and the flight was about 1 hour and 30 minutes in duration. I took my seat in the spacious row 5 which I was fortunate to get even though my upgrade didn't clear (there were seriously over 40 elites on the FC waiting list as is customary for the 4pm departure out to DTW). There was a late boarding gentleman in row 6 who was a gold and upset his upgrade didn't clear, then the FA told him she'd need to take his bag and check it because there was no space in the bin. He got snappy and swore at her (not good on his part) and she went to get a cust service supervisor who was not too good at handling the situation. She came in and patronizingly asks him "is there going to be a problem sir cause if you are going to swear at us you willnot be flying with us here on Northwest today." I agree that he was wrong to swear at the FA but the condescending tone that the NW sup lady came in with would have pushed me right over the edge. I hate people with those snotty attitudes. Anyhow, luckily he calmed down, sat down, and nothing more was heard from this. For what its worth, this was one of the more surly NW flight crews i've encountered recently. But the row 5 egroom is tremendous and the flight was smooth up at 38,000 feet, and I got my diet pepsi like usual so what do I have to complain about. Little late arrival but not a big deal. Flight goes onto GRR. I head up to Ann Arbor with a friend to watch my alma mater, Michigan, lose their homecoming game for the first timein I dunno how long.

Sunday, October 9th
DTW-BDL
Northwest Airlines 1182
Airbus A319
Scheduled departure time: 921pm
Actual departure time: 935pm (wheels up at 9:47)
Scheduled arrival time: 1057pm
Actual arrival time: 1107pm
Departure gate: Gate A69
Arrival gate: Gate A5
Seat: 5F

So sad to see all these depressed Michigan alumni file into the McNamara Terminal to board their flights home to destinations across America...there were people with Michigan gear everywhere and each of them, like myself, had the same glum look on their faces as if to say "i came all the way here for this..." Just as for me it was back to reality and to the late evening flight into BDL for the second time in a few weeks, although this time it was a different flight # and was now a 319 instead of a 320. Again my upgrade didn't clear but I already had row 5 so that wasn't too bad. We had a slight delay in departure due to luggage loading and fueling of our aircraft, but after we pushed back we were soon on our way to BDL at 36,000 feet- 1 hour 17 minutes enroute. Took off toward Canada and it was a very normal typical NW flight - drinks and trail mix sold, totally full or close to it like the way out, and it was dark out with ots of east coast cloud cover. That said, it didn't get that bumpy. Bumps are ok with me because I don't really ever have fear of flying. One nice thing was that unlike th4e last time I was on this late DTW-BDL segment, the inbound from MSP was already unloaded and moved away into its RON spot, so gate 5 was open and ready for us. Overall, good job NW...in spite of everything I think they do pretty well getting their jobs done, and I certainly hope that they make it in the tough environment today.

Interesting report, too bad your team lost, nice come back with no time left against Penn State the other day though  Smile

I flew NW out of BDL a couple times in the Mid nineties when I lived down in New London. Do they still fly out of that dismal basementy gate? IIRC they shared a cubby with TWA across the lobby from them. I assume someone took that gate since you were waiting for the MSP flight to clear out? Would have made sense for NW to get it.

Sounds like row 5 is the best thing going for you as an elite without an upgrade. Any chance you might switch your loyalties to UA? Those of us premiers, premier execs, and on up enjoy the economy plus benefit... plenty of room for 40 elites on every mainliner! I'm 6'2" and never again are my knees holding up the seat in front of me  spin

They have moved to newer facilities for a couple years now-- a 12 gate terminal, in which they actually have two gates. But at night, gate 7 (their other gate) is occupied by the overnighting CRJ that comes in at the same time from IND.
