Welcome to my very first trip report!! I hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed experiencing it!!!
Wednesday 16th November 2005
Air New Zealand
SYD - Sydney to AKL - Auckland
Scheduled Departure Time: 1000
But The Actual Departure Time: 1100
Aircraft: The brand new 777-200ER complete with new plane smell!!!
We arrived at Sydney Airport and began walking towards the check-in counter. The queue was quite long for economy. So I turned to my friend and said bugger this, let go business class (And I knew we would have the new flat beds too!!). She thought for about 2 seconds and said yeah lets do it. So after a very sudden and random decision to simply beat the check-in line, we went to the ticket desk and upgraded our tickets to business class. At first the guy said we couldn't since our original fares were not upgradable on the day of departure. He had a word to his supervisor and said the flight was over-catered anyway and proceeded to issue our tickets. After checking-in the almost non existent business class line we did a bit of duty free, then went to the Air New Zealand Lounge.
The Sydney Air New Zealand Lounge
Boarding began at about 0930 and we were greeted by the Air New Zealand crew who kindly showed us to our seats. After storing our bags and getting settled in one of the 3 crew in business class offered us a drink. Unlike in the past where they have come around with either pre-poured juice, water or champagne they went and got each drink individually and offered us any juice, water or champagne. Menus were also given out.
My pre-takeoff orange juice
The new flat-bed seats in the the seat position
Waiting to depart
Todays flight - The airshow was really impressive. All sorts of different views, and angles and a fortune of information. The entertainment system was easy to use with a good selection of movies, tv programs, games, cd's etc
After about 15 minutes the first announcement of a delay came due to a hold problem, I can't remember the exact details but something about a cargo door. 10 minutes passed and there was now another reason for the delay. Due to the late arrival of the Asiana flight from Seoul we had to wait for them. The captain said it was a catch 22 situation. Either we unloaded the bags and left or waited for them , going with the later it was decided it would take less time. After an hour of waiting we finally took off. Nothing beats the sound of those big engines!!! The seat belt sign came off and the crew sprung into action and delivered the drinks we had ordered before take-off.
Ice cold coke
The crew came around and helped passengers get there tables out. The tables were difficult to get out, this was also noted in the business class seat guide which said "The table can be difficult to lift out and put away. A new design is currently in development but in the meantime please ask the crew for help..."
Starter: Tiger prawns with Waldorf salad and kafir lime dressing. This is all served on the new crockery - I love the new design
Salt and pepper
Watching The Wedding Crashers
Main: Chaio Tzu Lamb on asian noodles and green (This is what I had)
Main: Chilli kelp King Salmon on linguine and ratouille (My friend had this)
Other main was peppered venison served chilled, on cous cous and roasted pumpkin salad, with orange and Cumberland sauce
Dessert: Spiced apple compote with gourmet ice cream with a dessert wine
Not far to go!!
The big 777 engine
The cabin after service
I thought it would be rude not to try and have a "sleep" I could easily pass 12 hours on this seat!!! It's more comfortable than my bed at home!!! A pitty this doesn't fit in my bag so I could take it home!!
Arriving into Auckland
Auckland Airport at about 4pm
I really enjoyed the whole trip from start to finish - and would highly recommend Air New Zealand - My faith has been restored with them after such a pleasant journey. I wish I had flown Air New Zealand over but I went with Emirates Business Class - This trip report will be posted shortly. Thanks for reading- I hope you enjoyed it. all comments welcome

I may be wrong but I think this is the first report that refers to a flight inside the new NZ 772ER, so thanks a lot. The pics are very nice and are making me want to fly NZ soon. I hope the opportunity happens. Look forward to reading more trip reports from you in the future.

Thank very much for the report. I will by flying NZ next month in Business Premier on the SFO-AKL route and expect to get the 777. It looks very nice and I am looking forward to seeing if it is as good for 12 hours as you felt it was for 3.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

one of the most beautiful lounges ever seen and one of the most beautiful aircraft interiors too... this 777-200ER with the "new plane smell" looks simply amazing... I hope to see the land of "The Lord of the Rings" at least once in a life, maybe flying there with this jewel!

I have to agree the new product is superb....i have flown Business Premier 3 times and it is outstanding and was fortunate enough to fly the maiden SFO AKL flight and the lie flat beds are a dream. I slept for 8 hours. The only drawback is not being able to get a good view from the window....your shoulder gets sore very quickly. Minor complaint really.
