Hi everyone
Wow my 2nd trip report in 1 day. Here is the Auckland-Sydney part of
my getaway with Emirates. Enjoy!!
Sunday 13th November 2005
Emirates
EK419
AKL- Auckland to SYD- Sydney
Business Class
Scheduled Departure Time: 1700?But The Actual Departure Time: 1655?
Aircraft: The brand new 777-300ER
After a long boring morning at work I couldn't wait to begin my trip
to Sydney. We headed towards the Business Class check-in where there
was no queue and were quickly checked-in. We also were able to pre
complete customs and go to a shorter queue at the departure area.
After security we went straight to the Emirates lounge which is their
own lounge been open about 5-6 months now.
Cakes and cold food items
The bar area and hot food to the far right
More seating and TV.
After drinking some champagne and a bit of nibbling we proceeded
towards the gate early so we could check out the new pier at
Auckland. Auckland Airport (for those who don't know) is currently
separating it's pier so that arriving and departing passengers can no
longer pass each other as they currently do.
The new departing level area
More of the new departing area
The new Air New Zealand 777 of to Brisbane and the special theme
Freedom Air Airbus 320
Today's aircraft to Sydney 777-300ER - This aircraft was not
configured with the First Class as advertised on the website (and
probably why I couldn't buy a first class ticket which I wanted to
do) Boarding began and we walked down the air bridge . Once at the
aircraft, there were no crew at the door to greet us. I have never
seen this happen before and was slightly appalled with such a lack of
welcoming. We walked in a little and turned left into the business
class section when 2 crew members saw us then ran out to greet us.
then one of them went to the door to greet all the other passengers.
A brownie point lost for Emirates! Once settled we were offered
champagne or juice.
I have the champagne, and my friend has the orange juice
Today's flight. The ICE entertainment system is very impressive. Easy
to use - A touch screen navigation instead of using the controller. A
massive selection of movies, TV programs and Audio. I tried the SMS
service and it sent them but after landing and talking to the people
I had messaged they never received them. After take off (and I love
been able to watch the forward view on the screen) canapes were served
Canapes with another glass of champagne and a bloody mary on the left

Appetizers: Oriental Beef - Served with oyster mushroom and ginko nut
salad, accompanied with a coriander and citrus mayonnaise. I had to
have this option as the last lobster went to my friend but we shared
with each other. Isn't great when friends share!!! Photo below
Appetizer: New Zealand Lobster Medallions - Served with creamy potato
and celery salad, offered with marie rose dressing.
Main Course: Poached Blue Cod (What I had) with scallops and prawns
on creamy Jacqueline sauce, accompanied with kolrabi, carrots, snow
peas and steamed rice.
Main Course: Eggplant and Braised Du Puy Lentil Moussaka (What my
friend had) fried slices of eggplant, topped with braised du puy
lentils, enhanced with a hint of cinnamon, spiced tomato and
capsicums, three cheese béchamel sauce and roast tomato coulis,
accompanied with brococolie and medley of mushrooms. - Say that 10
times fast. The other main option was Braised Lamb Shanks - braised
with rosemary and garlic, accompanied with caramelized pearl onions,
new potato wedges, green beans and roasted pumpkin
Dessert: Glazed Raspberry Charlotte - piped sponge siding filled with
raspberry mousse - YUM!! Served with a tea or coffee and a chocolate
The view ahead
The view below - Both boring.....
If I ever see this screen again I'll scream - it's so annoying
especially in the middle of mini golf!!!
Flying over Sydney
This is all of the A380 I saw
Once we arrived in Sydney our chauffer driver was waiting to take us
to the Hilton. A nice service offered by Emirates. Overall I was
satisfied with Emirates. The no greeting at the plane and a few other
things cost a few points but wouldn't hesitate flying them again.

In the EK lounge was the food and drinks free?

That passenger announcement system when I was on EK419 last month really started to drive me crazy, it was like every 30 minutes, and always happened at the worst moments during the movies. The different langauages during the announcements was interesting thou

If your flying on EK419 then you will always see it (2x EK B777s and 1x EK A345) in AKL. Its interesting when all three EKs are parked side by side at the gates thou.

Excellent report - but from reading the both of them I preferred the NZ one.
Question - I assume there won't always be the option of flying SYD-AKL on an NZ 772 or an EK 77W...the NZ offering will likely be what, a 320 presumably? Do the 763s operate the Sydney route and if so, will the 777s start flying them once the 763s are phased out?

I'm sure NZ 777's will make regualr trips across the tasman just not as many as they are now. EK has the 77W permantely on this route until they decide to change it. It was the Airbus 340-500 but that is now on the AKL-MEL route.

Wonderful report, and even better pics! You should post them also at airlinemeals.net. Anyway, never had an inkling that Emirates would have such a presence at AKL. Very interesting.
