Well, I had a quick day trip up to YMM this morning and figured I would do another trip report. My alarm clock woke me up at 5:15AM which left me plenty of time to get ready and go out the door since I had nothing to pack; just needed my laptop. I head out to YEG and arrived at around 6:15AM. Stopped at harvey's near the security area for some breakfast and watched the security process for a bit. I often find this an interesting place to "people" watch as you often see loved ones parting at this point and crying and hugging, while other people are happy they are going on vacation..
My trip through security was completely painless since YEG as an Inter-Alberta same day travel line which by-passes the lines; I think this is a fantastic idea to keep airtravel happening between YEG-YYC as opposed to business traffic driving. Boarding the plane was also quick and painless. Today I would be sitting in 4F. The flight attendants on this trip were very talkative. Especially one who gave us quite a bit of info about the flight prior to taking off; such as weather in YMM etc. We quickly taxi'd to Rw02 for a northern departure up to YMM.
I flicked on my live tv and watched some news.. I peaked over at the tv beside mine and noticed that we were only cruising at FL270. This is odd for a YEG-YMM trip as we usually go to FL330. The pilot came on shortly after I noticed this and informed us that we had a 160km/r headwind and were going to be a bit delayed into the gate.. I figured we were flying at FL270 because the headwinds were a bit worse higher up.
Now for the landing We broke through the clouds to light snow for rw25. Once we touched down I was REALLY glad I was wearing a seat belt. I've never felt breaking so hard on an airplane before; this was great!! The captain came on during taxi and apologized for the landing, but, the runway was very short and quite icy, so, it was required. All good.
Date: December 8, 2005
Flight: WestJet Flight 86
Edmonton (YEG) - Ft. McMurray (YMM)
Time: 1720
Flight Duration: 40 Mins
Type: 737-600
After a hard days work, I arrived back at YMM to catch my ride home.. I went through security quickly. I had a woman in front of me at security complaning about having to put her change in the bucket to go through the x-ray, the refused to take off her jacket. The security guy let her go through with her jacket on, and naturally I hear BEEEEP.. They scan her and find more change and various metal parts on her jacket.. She complained some more and moved on ..
We boarded the brand spankin new 600 quickly.. This time I would be in 5A. The flight was typical out of YMM.. We departed off of rw07 and were treated to a short drink service due to the short flight. We landing on RW20 back at YEG and WOW, what a greaser.. I don't think I've ever experienced such a smooth and great landing ever. The FA complimented the F/O on a "buttery" landing and we taxied to the international gates since this 600 was going to be off to KLAS shortly.
That's about it.. A typical flight with exception to the insain breaking (wow those 700's can really stop when they need to) and a "buttery" landing all in one day. Thanks again WestJet for great service and a ride on a couple beautiful aircraft

Good trip report mate.
I flew YYC - YEG on Saturday (Dec 10) and I got to fly in the -600 for the first time. I love Westjet. It's the best airline out there. I flew 12 trips with them in the past two months.
I wonder when they Live Sat. TVs will be installed in the -600. They really make the flight more enjoyable.
Cheers,
Vio

Being a Fort mac person maybe this summer (when Westjet arrives and departs in the daylight) I can grab shots of your trip landing and departing from YMM.
I got this Westjet -600 in YEG on December 9 when I was there for the day - missed ya by one day.
