SingaporeAirlines
July 7 2005
Flight: SQ 322
SIN-LHR
Departs:23:20 actual departure time 23:45
Arrives 05:50 actual arrival time 05:20
I arrived at CHC in the morning at about 10:15 got into the checkin line immediately as there was already a large queue for economy class checkin. After checking in I sat down with my mum and filled in some departures forms and payed the ridiculous 25 NZ dollars to depart the country. Then my step dad came over from the Air New Zealand hangar to say goodbye. At about 11:30 I was collected by AirNZ customer services and taken up through the x-ray machines and on to the gate.

Then I was waiting for over an hour until we boarded. Then about 12:30 someone on the PA system said that all unaccompanied minors and family's with young children could begin to board. So I went up and got my boarding card and put through the machine and went down the tunnel we got about half way down when we were told to stop and wait by someone with a walkie talkie, SO we waited for about 15 mins until we were cold to go. I boarded the plane with 2 other unaccompanied minors, we were greeted by the head steward who took our passports some other documents off us and put them in a safe or something. We taken to our seats and I was in seat 56D an aisle seat as I requested as I being in the middle seat as can't sleep on planes SO would be annoying to other passengers who were beside me and I am tall neally six foot and I am only now 15 was 14 when flew on this flight.

As all the passengers were all nearly settled down with the majority of people in there seats. And by now I had settled down to with my stuff. And then I was confronted by a stewardess who asked me if I would change my aisle seat for a window seat but I refused, then I was confronted by the disgruntled passenger who was not asking to move more of the term telling me to move but still I refused. By now many of the other passengers sitting around were listening in to what this guy had to say then head steward came and told the man to get back to his seat but before he went I said one thing to him I paid my moneys worth for this flight and I don't want you ruining it.

And that shut him up for rest of the flight. The time was now nearly 13:10 SO we had definitely missed are takeoff time but as CHC isn't a busy airport we didn't have to wait long until we were up in the air eventually we departed at 13:25.we seemed to have a very long takeoff run as we were going down the runway I could we had just past international terminal and I thought that we wasn't to get off and I know that CHC runway is about 3,300 meters long SO that is more than enough. OH by the way we departed on the North South runway ovesley we departed to the North.

Dinner was served about an hour an a half into the flight I had chicken with vegetables and roast potatoes very nice and a decent portion to, desert was an icecream from somewhere in the North Island but can't remember where. The first 4 hours to Brisbane were really fast then, we over Australia and it went really slow and dragged on a little from then onwards. After we left Australia we were over 2/3 of the way there to Singapore. Any way during this time I had been trying out SQ's IFE it was absolute brilliant I think there was over 60 movies to choose from comedy's,documentary's and plus heaps of games to choose from.

About on and a half before the flight was due to land in SIN the 3 unaccompanied minors taken to First class which was empty SO we had 18 massive seats to ourselves was at least 3 foot leg room I couldn't believe it. And the engines were massive and as I was sitting in seat 2A I had look at them there was a glow on the blades it was amazing. I didn't play with the seat as I was little scared if I broke anything SO I didn't touch a thing but I did have a look all the buttons and functions it could do.

by now it was time to put on our seatbelts and prepare to land all the lights were dimmed SO it was quiet dark but I was looking outside looking out over the water which surrounds Chang airport. It was a smooth landing and then taxied to our gate immediately once the doors were opened everyone left the aircraft except the Y.U.M's SO I didn't really understand why we were put in first class as we left the 777 300 last but never mind.

After that we went to a special room for unaccompanied minors there was not much to do in there except watch T.V but I coundn't be bothered it was near empty when I got there about 20:30 local time but by the time I left it was near full of kids of all ages.

Then we left about 10 ish 10:15 can't remember to head for the gate it was long walk but we went on some of those long excerlaters. When we got to the gate there was queue for being searched but went straight to the front that's the goods thing about being a unaccompanied minor you get to the front of the line all the time I went through the x-ray machine and it beeped on me SO I was rold to stand legs apart arms straight but t was only my belt. By now it was about 22:50 SO they started to our flight SQ322 to LHR I was seated at seat 48C next to a galley. In the centre of the aircraft. We took off a little later than exspected but we had really good tale wind SO we reaching speeds of over 1000kmh during some parts of the flight. I fell asleep on this at the start and I woke up thinking that that I had slept for about 2 to 3 hours but I was off the mark I had only slept for an hour and couldn't sleep any longer as the galley curtain wasn't shut properly and every time I leaned over to pull it too, about a minute later someody would come out of it and they wouldn't pull closed and there we was very bright lights in there and I was feeling really annoyed plus behind my seat there was a food cart which every time they served meals wanted something out of, or what ever I would have to re recline my seat forward to let them get it out, and as you only get a little recline in economy by a few degrees anything makes a difference when flying for long time in my case nearly 24 hours with out hardly any sleep. SO after that I turned on the IFE and several like SWAT and Million Dollar baby and few documentaries. After all this it was breakfast and I had something but I can't remember what it was. We were flying over eastern Europe and the UK came into view on interactive map I was filled with joy as it had been 2 long flights from New Zealand to England and plus I hadn't seen my dad for over 18 months SO I couldn't wait to see him. But little do I now that, the world had changed since left New Zealand there had been terroist attacks in the centre of London the day I beforeI got there.

So we were circling London for nearly an hour there was high cloud but there some broken clouds some we could outside I didn't see that much as there was 2 people next to me and I was in aisle an aisle seat. Eventually we were lined up for landing flaps were being extended and landing gear was down, it was a bit of a hard landing as there was several aircraft landing afte us once we left the runway a Virgin Atlantic A340 600 from Sydney I presume landed after us and there was 4 aircraft I could lining up for the runway. We arrived at a terminal 3 gate and the main door was opened for us to depart the aircraft. We as in the unaccompanied minors were rushed to front and departed first. Awaiting us was a person who was then going to esort to arrivals but first we had to go through passport control, there was a massive queue at passport control but lucky for us skipped through nearly 1000 people to the front of it all. I don't think my passport got stamped as I am a UK citizen but live in New Zealand. After that we collected our bags and headed for arrivals but all of a sudden the fire alarm went off and arrivals had to be evacuated SO we were left in Immigration if that's what you want call there was one women in office with a window saying " Is anybody carrying cigarettes, knifes, large sums of money" etc. The immigration in the UK is nothing compared to New Zealand. After nearly an hour waiting we were let through and that is the end of my review of flights SQ and SQ

I might do a review of the return journey pending how may replies I get.

One more thing SQ is a excellent airline and has really good IFE and sevice coming round water and juice every 20 minutes or so.

And they were my first flights on SQ.

And I have flown on my own over 100 times before in the UK to visit my dad but that was my first long haul.

why did the other passenger make such a drama of wanting to change seats..he should have pre booked an aisle seat in the first place.

Well I phoned in the morning to reserve an aisle seat in Economy, but I don't know why he didn't, and the only reason they asked me to move as everyone else who were on aisle seats were males mainly and quiet tall as they had there feet in aisle. If he was so bothered about he should have then phoned SQ reservations or come earlier to the airport to checkin or payed to go to a higher class like Raffles or First .
By the way I have just started to type up my return journey will finished tonight.

Singapore Airlines
July 23 2005
SQ 321
LHR-SIN
Departure time 22:15 actual departure time 23:05
Arrival time: 18:00
flight time between 12 1/2 hours 13 hours.
Aircraft 747 400
load factor (economy Full) raffles and first don't no

It all began when we left east London heading Heathrow, we set off at about 4:30ish pm but had to travel through the centre of London as M25 motorway was closed due to crash. It took a long time to travel through London nearly 2 hours, then we got onto a motorway to Heathrow and when we turned off for Heathrow it was chaotic there was a pile of cars streching a mile long, it took us 30 mins to get the car park in terminal 3 from when we left the motorway.
when we arrived in checkin it was JAM PACKED with thousands of people from all over the world, we couldn't hardly move it was like we were in a tin of sardines. After got check about 3 hours before the flight was set to depart
checkin was absolute dead at SQ checkin desks they have least 6 desks and I was the only there (at that time) yet every other airline checkin was busy.

After checking in I stayed with my Dad until 9pm, then we returned to SQ checkin and we met with other UM's and someone to take us up to the gate.
As we got to departures I said my goodbyes do my dad and we both started cry, but by the time we got to the x-ray machines I was fine. And one other thing we skipped the X-ray queue and went through departures to a passport check there was at least 200 people in this queue and only 2 or 3 people checking passports and boarding cards and again we went to the front of the queue as well.

We got the gate which by now was already full of other passengers. The time now was 21:40 we waited at the gate for about 15 minutes until we were called up to board once again UM's were first to board and once again I was seated 48C after everyone boarded and settled down and seated we started our pushback, after the tug pulled away we had a 30 minute taxi to the runway to depart. Eventually we departed at about 23:00 in to night sky on a Saturday night over London. For neally the whole flight which was 13 hours I watched movies on SQ's IFE and played some games. I couldn't sleep on this flight as once again I was next to the galley so the stewards and stewardesses were in and out every couple of minutes so no sleep on this flight on ce again. I did feel veey tied as by the end of the flight I would have been a wake for over 29 hours so by the time we got to SIN I was really tiered.

When we reached SIN the UM I was sat next to was going on to CHC like me, and we went to the special room for UM's and when we got there he showed them a mileage card of somesort and asked me to go with him to this excecutive lounge. It had food, live T.V, showers. When we got there the receptionist said we wasn't aloud in but I asked her to phone up her manager or who ever was in charge of this lounge so she did and once she was off the phone with them she said that they said we could go in. The first ting I did was get a shower and freshen up in some clean clothes from my hand luggage. After showering I got some Food it was really good. Then watched some rugby the Australians were playing but can't remember who against. After an hour and a half of being in the executive lounge we left to collect the rest of UM's for the flight to Christchurch there was 10 UM's on this flight

Singapore Airlines
flight SQ297
SIN-CHC
flight time 9hours 30 odd minutes
Departure time 21:05 actual departure 21:15
arrival time: 10:45 actual arrival time 10:30
Aircraft 777 200ER
Seat 47C
load factor (economy 100%) Raffles about 75%

Once we boarded first I was seated in seat 47C which was a double seat and a triple because we were next to galley and infront of a toilet. so that was good because I could stretch my legs over behind the seat 46C as that aisle had 3 seats A,B,C. The flight was only 9 and a half ours long so not to bad but once again I couldn't sleep on that flight so I just watched some movies that I had already watched my previous SQ flights but I wasn't that bothered anything to kill time.

2 hours prier to landing arrival cards were handed out but I didn't get one as I was a UM, the stewardess said that one had been done for me but after they finished handing them I went for a walk and found some forms on a shelve and filled it because how SQ know what I had in my bags.

I couldn't wait to land to see my mum and get some well deserved sleep.
After landing we taxied to a gate at the International terminal, and departed this time we left the plane last then escorted out when we got to immigration I was the only UM who had filled out the immigration forms SO we had to wait 20 mins until the other 9 UM's completed the forms then went through immigration without a hitch.collected our bags then had to queue up for MAF to inspect our bags with sniffer dogs and Xray machines and that was me, went through arrivals and I was back on New Zealand soil.

Any questions do not hesitate to ask me anything about these flights.

Any repley would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks

I've travlled SQ as a UM a few times, and you don't sit in the executive lounge, but the Special Services lounge. Like NZCH sais, theres really nothing to do except watch tv. Last time I was there the only other kid there was this weird girl who wanted to keep talking to me...couldn't wait till the attendent came and got me for my flight!

A great report ZNCH!

Good report!

I can only guess why First class is empty is because First is not sold on SIN/CHC. The B773 was probably a replacement aircraft as 773s dont usually go to CHC.

It was a brilliant lounge to go in lots of things to do live T.V, showers, internet, loads of free food. Can't remember what it was called but I think It was only for Star Alliance customers who had a special card to get in.

The SQ 773 has been to CHC on several occasions and I am postitive it was first ( I looked on SQ's website at there cabin layout and there is only one cabin layout for the 773 )

Wow great report NZCH! I am thinking of going over to Ireland in April as a UM to see some family and friends (only if my parents decide to go somewhere else.)
Getting the upgrade to First sounded very good! I do not think I would get one though because AKL is a 747/772 and first class is sold on this flight.
How long were you in the 'lounges' between flights?
