Hi guys.
Today, I´m going to talk to you about my trip to Vegas I need in September 2005.
My routing was: SJO-ATL-LAS-IAH-SJO on both DL and CO. I was supposed to took DL 564, which is the second DL flight to ATL from SJO. The morning flight is DL 1799. I was really looking forward for this flight, since they are my two favorite airlines and Vegas, well, you know... Also I was looking forward for this DL flight, because this flight was a week after they declared protection against bankrupcy.
I arrived to the deserted SJO terminal around 11am. It was quiet, since all the morning arrivals left already and the next rush hour is late in the afternoon. At this time, counters were open for DL, AA, US, TA and AC. Flights to Atlanta, Miami, Charlotte and Fort Lauderdale, Lat Am destinations and Toronto, respectively.
The counter for DL was deserted. I was like "huh?". Well, the staff was nice, checked the bags to ATL where I had to move them to the belt for the flight to LAS.
I passed security easily.
I made some spotting. Two US A319s, AA A300, AC A319, many TA A320s. My plane to ATL was not there yet.
It was a very cloudy day and I was looking at the tip of the runway and saw a big plane landing. It was IB A346, EC-IZY named "I.Zuloaga". That made my day.

Traffic at SJO:
US A319 N765US bound for FLL

AC A319 C-GKOB bound for YYZ:

My plane DL 752 just arrived from ATL:

And finally, the plane that made my day:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/abechny/Picture007.jpg

Boarding was on time. Loads were extremely low. About 15 people on board this 752!!! We taxied, the video with the safety percedures was shown. As we aligned to the runway, we powered, but sudently, the capitan put the throttle to idle. We left the runway. He said that their the planes navigational system need to be reset. That will take 5 min. After that, we taxied back to the runway, but left it again. Everybody was nervous. The capitan said that the weather is too bad for take-off. And it was true. I was raining, and the extremely cloudy with low visibility.
Here are some pics before take-off:

Awfull weather in SJO:

Menu that was given to us before take-off (great touch, thank you DL):

Confy leather seats:

Sky Magazine with my passport and the menu:

We took-off an hour after scheduled take-off, when the weather was slighty better. Just before us AA took off and both of the US and one AC took off before we even boarded the plane.

Awfull clouds and 0 visibility. Seconds after take-off:

10 min after leaving SJO, this beautiful weather. The clouds were trapped in the Central Valley:

The service began soon after take-off, as IFE, we got Delta Horizons and a movie called "A lot like Love". We got the meal, which was according to the menu:

Every meal was accompained by a salad consisting of: seasonal garden green, tomato and carrots served with dressing.
Then, we had two choiced:

Choice 1:

Chicken Breast Medallions:
Roasted chicken on a bed of Orzo with corn and sweet peppers, topped with asparagus, marinara sauce and cheese sauce.

Choice 2:

Cheese Tortellini:
with mushrooms in red pepper tomato sauce, topped with cream sauce and a tricolor bell pepper Julienne

Every meal was accompanied by bread and butter and by a

Desert:
Passion Fruit Cake

My meal, I choose the Tortellini:

Another view:

I consider myself a gourmet. And I can tell you that this meal was EXCELLENT. I would give it a 200 out of 10!!!! So flavory, the tortellinies were cokeed just right, the sauce was extremely tasty, the peppers were fresh. The bread was hot, salad was fresh, and the dessert was heaven. If we got his meal in economy, I guess people in Bussines must´v get a Emeril menu or something. Gorgogeus. And take into account that DL is bankrupt. To drink, I choose, as always, cranberry juice.

After that, I watched out of the window. Beautiful see, we saw Cuba and all that.
Beautiful colors, dusk over Carribean:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/abechny/Picture046.jpg

You can consider me a fetishist, but I got you a pic of the bathroom:

After a few minutes, crew passed again with drinks and after that with the papers for Inmigration. We got a Dassani bottle of water which was a great touch too, excelent DL, just excelent.

My Dassani water, which I kep and drank it at the borders of Grand Canyon think about how great DL is:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/abechny/Picture048.jpg

Rest of the flight was uneventfull, we landed 30min late to ATL. My flight to Vegas, DL 998 was leaving in 50mins.

Pic of Atlanta during final approach:

We taxied to the gate, and I rushed out of the plane, since I had no time to spare. Of course, I said good bye and THANK YOU like a million times before leaving the plane.

Resume:
one of the best non-longhaul flight I EVER had.
Check in: 9/10
Seat confort: 10/10
IFE: 8/10
Cleanliness: 9/10
Friendliness: 9/10
Service: 200/10
Meal: 200/10
On time: 5/10 (but the delay was not their fault!!!)

I ran though inmigration (thanks God no queues there!!!). My had to wait for 10min to get my bags. I ran thorough security and arrived to the gate on the boarding pass. But no plane there. I panicked. But them, I looked well on the screen and it said that the flight to LAS was moved three gates lower. I ran there and boarded just on time.

Plane was a B762. The plane was extremely full, fat people eating pop-corn, messy plane, old seats. I knew that this flight arrived from SJU and continues to LAS, can anybody confirm this? It was DL 998.

We had a fat F/A and an anorectic F/A, but both were nice.
As soon as I sit on my seat at the back of the plane, I saw the doors for the baggage space close. I knew, at that point that my bags will not get it to Vegas. Well, good luck to DL I said at the moment.

ATL, Terminal A just before taxiing to the runway:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/abechny/Picture053.jpg

We took off on time and rather slowly. On the way, the experiencied severe turbulence over mid-west, the capitain said its one wing of Hurricane Rita that was destroying Texas at that time. Very bumpy flight.
We got the famous "junk food" box, with chips, raisins and Oreo cookies. I was a nice touch, if I remember how AA, UA and NW passangers starve during flights.

The famous junk food box:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/abechny/Picture055.jpg

As the movie, I saw Herbie: Fully Loaded. I liked it, even though I saw like half of the movie because people were moving down the aisle all the time, blocking the view of the HUGE TV monitor. What a bad kind of IFE. Very unconfortable for passangers.
The 4 and a half hrs flight was smooth after we passes Oklahoma, no more turbulences.

Approach to LAS:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/abechny/Picture057.jpg

After touchdow, I could clearly see the Luxor and the New York, New York hotel and all others. The Stratosphere was looking sexy as well. Left the plane and off to Vegas. I was kind of scared at first, having saw all the CSI episodes, but it turned out to be my best vacation. I traveled also to Grand Canyon and all the way to Colorado, Cortez, Mariposa. Then on to Utah, St. George and stuff and back to Vegas for some gambling.

Resume:
normal flight, better than any AA, US, NW or UA domestic flights. I didn´t like the IFE and the seats.
Check-in: N/A
Seat Confort: 4/10
Cleanliness: 6/10
Friendliness: 9/10
Service: 8/10 (superior to any other carrier, exept CO)
Meal: 7/10 (nice touch to get something on a domestic flight!!)
On-time: 10/10

My CO return via IAH is on the way. Feel free to coment, criticize and/or ask.
Regards,
Adam

Completely forgot about the bags!!! No, they didn´t arrived. I went to the Delta counter in McCarran Airport and filed some papers there. The lady said: make to the airport tomorrow at 11am, when the first DL from ATL arrives and retreive your bags from the belt. I went there and voila, they arrived. I was expecting a compensation (I am used to KLM where you get 100 dollars per delayed bag). But well, what can you expect from an American carrier.

Vegas is awsome!!! I stayed in the New York, New York, but if I had the chance to go to Vegas again, I would go to Bellagio. I do not reccomend Monte Carlo as I heard some complains about it.

Well, don´t forget to go the Stratosphere, but since you are staying there, you should have no problem. You can spare a complete day in the Stratosphere. Plenty of things to do there. Then, don´t forget to visit all the hotels in Strip and gamble in one. Then I reccomend personally to make a trip to Grand Canyon. It was a marvel. And its only about 2hrs from Vegas. You can buy a complete trip for under $200, then believe, they are well worth it. And finally, don´t forget to visit any of the famous shows. I would pesonally go to see Celine Dion, but the tickets are sold like 6months in advance. If you want to go to any, make sure you reserve the ticktes way in advance. Specially to the most famous ones. Well, enjoy Vegas. I know you will.

For the same reason Im in SJO and not in PRG. My parents are diplomats working at the Embassy in San Jose and Im with them, currently studying in University of Costa Rica. But I´m returning to CZE in May this year.

That is exactly were I want to stay, The Bellagio! But it is very expensive! Even during the week on certain days the prices spike up.

But it is worth it!!! Believe me!!! Stay away from Monte Carlo as I advised you. Luxor is also nice with nice fares, but is not in the middle of Strip.
Enjoy your trip. And don´t forget to post a TR.

Lovely, I usualy stay at the Flamingo, Did you get a chance to go on the rollar-costa ?, me and my brother did, it was great !, but very expensive, much to the disfatisfaction of my dad  Wink

Well, the stratosphere is good, I presume you know about the rides at the top ?, however, the Stratospere is off the strip, and it's either a 10-15 minute walk, or a bus ride, so if you want to see everything, I'd recomend a hotle on the strip, the Flamingo is good value for money and a nice place.
Somewhere to visit for some fun is Circus Circus, it has an indoor theampark, double loop-the-loop rollar-costa and lots of other things, great day out.

check out:

http://www.vegas.com

They have all kinds of info. and booking tools on there.

Just a recommendation, the Stratosphere is FAR North on Las Vegas Blvd., not really part of the "Strip", try the Imperial Palace, probably about the same price for a room and you are right in the middle of everything. Being you a doing some celebrating, if you want to spend a few bucks, check out getting a Suite at The Hotel at Mandalay Bay, it has a seperate entrance and is ultra-modern, has a boutique hotel feel to it. My personal favorite of all the places in town.

Sounds like you will be partying for your G/F's 21st, there are night Clubs in a lot of the casinos, Ra at Luxor, Studio 54 at MGM, Lure at Wynn, Light at Bellagio, Rum Jungle is being re-done at Mandalay, but the House of Bluse in their is normally a good time. For Bars, check out Nine Fine Irishman or The Piano Bar at NYNY, the BrewPub at Monte Carlo, if your into the "old school Vegas" check out the Riviera, Frontier, or Stardust and Tropicana as those two are closing during the year, Tropicana is not accepting reservations past 04/14/06.

Any of the Cirque du Solei shows are excellent, there are four different ones produced by them in town, O at Bellagio, Mystere at TI (Treasure Island), Zumanity, a little more risque, at either MGM or New York New York, I forget which, also a new show at the Mirage, do not know the name of that one, it replaced Seigfred & Roy.
