Quick weekend trip to Florida to hang with a friend and have a couple beers, using some delta dollars Here's the report:
Hartford to Atlanta
Scheduled departure time: 4:00pm
Actual departure time: 4:14pm (wheels up at 4:25 pm)
Scheduled arrival time: 6:38pm
Actual arrival time: 6:56pm (touch down at 6:50)
Deptaure gate: A11
Arrival gate: T1
This was unique because the lead f/a came out to the gate area to address the passengers regarding the overhead bin space. She didn't speak until she had everyone's attention and then she directed everyone with rollaboards to place them wheels first on the A-B-C seat side, to utilize the underseat storage so the bins will be free for peoples larger bags. She also asked people to hang onto their coats and put them in the bins after everything else was already inside. We had a full flight, so i'm assuming thats why she did that. Bin space can be scarce when a flight is full- it was only the previous week that 20+ bags had to be gate-checked on a NW A319 I was taking to DTW because people werent using the under-seat storage. But on Delta 475, not ONE bag had to be checked and she even came to collect some coach pax jackets and put them in the bins. We pushed back a few minutes off-schedule due to the fully loaded flight and some type of paperwork issues. Once airborne, the 140 MPH headwind we faced slowed us down so the ride was almost 2 1/2 hours down to ATL (usually is right around 2 hours). That said though it was not bumpy at all except for some light chop on descent to ATL. The same F/A that made the announcements came around with second helpings of snacks for the people in the first few rows of economy, which I thought was a nice touch. All in all, it was a good flight. Aircraft went to Norfolk after our flight deplaned. The alte arrival combined with my short (scheduled for 40-something mins) connection time was now 20 minutes.
Atlanta to Ft. Lauderdale
Boeing 757 (originally scheduled as a 763)
Scheduled departure time: 7:20pm
Actual departure time: 7:35pm (wheels up at 8:01pm)
Scheduled arrival time: 9:15pm
Actual arrival time: 9:26pm (touch down at 9:22)
Deptaure gate: A20
Arrival gate: D9
I was one of the last pax to board the flight to FLL, 100% full as well due to change in aircraft about a week earlier. We had a long takeoff line to wait out but we finally took off and the usual-- Delta snacks and Delta Horizons. We overflew TPA and made the left turn over RSW over the everglades and came in over land on approach to FLL. Miami/FLL based crew

Saw Hulk Hogan, slapped fives with hiim, and saw his daughter (really hot) perform on stage at Mansion (not a bad singer either)
Ft. Lauderdale to Atlanta

Actual departure time: 5:38pm (wheels up at 6:01 pm)
Scheduled arrival time: 7:23pm
Actual arrival time: 7:34pm (touch down at 7:31)

We had a slight delay due to the aircraft needing more fuel. Again, 100% full flight which was continuing onto Colorado Springs after ATL. After liftoff towards the ocean, we turned back around to land and up the central part of Florida and it was reasonably bumpy but nothing too bad. Again, Delta Horizons and the typical DL snacks were given out. I have noticed that DL seems to have older comedies like Cosby Show and 3rd Rock From the Sun on Horizons instead of newer shows like Joey and According to Jim.....i wonder if rights fees for the older programs are significantly cheaper that makes it worthwhile to show the older shows. Anyhow, we get to ATL and within moments were parked and getting off. There was a change in flight crew and amazingly, this crew would join me going back to BDL. Funny, since its the second time on Delta the crew has followed me - other time was in December ;03 going SAV-ATL-DTW, and like this trip, that was B738 to MD-88. Even the lead F/A thought that was a pretty interesting coincedence.
Atlanta to Hartford

I've taken this 8:45ish ATL-BDL flight a few times before, and seen it operated with a 767, 757, and now an MD88 I've also had it with ATL crews, SLC crews, but this was a first with a MIA/FLL crew...i guess they wanted to escape the sun?? Anyhow, i wanted to try out DL's bulkhead seat, and i gotta tell you DL fliers, the two-seat side behind the exit rows (think row 26-28) are the best-- the best legroom and also the two-seat thing is nice. Anyhow, this flight was not delayed, nor bumpy, nor unusual...typical DL service from the F/A's i'd been with on the previous flight. I brought some additional snacks on with me so I read my book and ate some snacks, and best of all, arrived home a few minutes early, enabling me to be in bed sleeping at Midnight cause I had to work on Monday morning....

interesting...you flew BDL-FLL 2 days after me! Did you read my trip report and catch those props to you for the display case? Yes, I actually made my way over there and it looked very cool (not to mention its a decent place to spot and the hotel is awesome).
why did you choose to go through ATL rather than nonstop. I know in spring, I'm going through BWI because of times...were they an issue this time?
