Hmm … I wonder if I’ll get 737s

730pm-I got all the last minute laundry done. Also took the time to pack my clothes & other necessities , clean up the place, and most importantly print the boarding pass on southwest.com

Wake up at around 430am. Took out the trash, got ready for a long flight cross country.Left home at 6am. Caught a taxi to LAX Airport Terminal 1

630am-Arrived at LAX Terminal 1. Traffic was light and customer load was a lil light. Checked in 1 bag, so I don’t have to worry about lugging it onto the airplane.

634AM-Arrived at the security checkpoint
644am-Departed the security checkpoint. The person that screened me didn’t know what was doing when he screened me. As usual, my prosthesis goes off, and he jus sits there and wonders what to do. At this point in time, Im actually just here thinking to myself “This guy should get another occupation and something more easy., like working at a donut shop.

647AM-I made it to Gate 7 … where I would find N736SW ( Boeing 737 )

725AM- Boarding commenced for Flight 2147 ( LAX-STL-FLL ). This will be my first time in Florida … so I’ll make sure to bring back some oranges. The flight on this leg was about 30% full...so everyone had a whole row to theirselves

Somewhere at 41000 feet
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b153/ea90744/c204dfd6.jpg

740AM-We departed on-time, took off, all that good stuff. Our cruising altitude on the LAX-STL leg was 41000 feet. The scenery was spactacular, as we passed over Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, and the snow covered Colorado Rockies. Flight was uneventful. Had a few planes cruise along the side of us at lower altitudes. Due to the rainfall, coming down into STL was a lil too bumpy. We actually had follow a holding pattern for about 15 minutes or so. After that time, we were cleared to land into STL. Never had I experienced turbulence this rough before, guess as long as I survived.

After landing in STL
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b153/ea90744/57d40569.jpg

We were about 15 minutes late arriving and leaving from STL. Seat load factor was roughly about 50%, but still had the row to oneself  Smile Takeoff was pretty much the same as the landing !

On the STL-FLL leg, we also got up to 41000 feet as well. Our meal, um I mean, snack service went underway when we got up there.

Coming into FLL
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b153/ea90744/6e1bde0c.jpg

Landing was pretty much the same when we got to FLL…this time clear air. It was a bit bumpy going down, and we pulled into gate B5.

My friend Fernando was in the waiting area awaiting for my arrival. After that, we hung out for a while and went to Pollo Tropical. Sever hours later, I made it to my hotel in North Miami. I stayed at the Best Western on 123rd & Biscayne Blvd. Niice room with plenty of room all around. Theres a small shopping center across the otherside of Biscayne Blvd, which has Walgreens, Radio Shack, Burger King, Denny's, Wendy's, which is across 123rd northbound. Theres a lil mom-and-pop restaurant called DJs Grill. I wouldnt recommend it.

Miami Dade Transit # 3 bus at NE 123rd Street and Biscayne Bl

Mass Transit around the area is accessible by Miami Dade Transit.Getting there to Downtown Miami is a 30 minute ride, by taking the Miami Dade Transit # 3 ( Biscayne Blvd ). This is a 24 hr route that goes from Downtown to Aventura Mall, which is about 15 mintues north of the hotel. The 93 ( Biscayne MAX ) bus is a limited stop version of the 3. Getting there from FLL, you'd have to take Broward County Transit # 1 to Aventura Mall and transfer to the Miami Dade Transit # 3 or 93. You cannot get to this hotel from any of the Tri-Rail Stations. You'd have to catch more than one bus, or perhaps a cab.

Wed, Thurs, and Friday… my friends Joe, and Fernando ( whom work for MDT) showed me around Miami and the hot spots, etc. Since this is my first time in south Florida, I had a a lot of fun here and already planning yet another visit in April  Smile

Thanks Joe and Fernando for the tour  Smile

Taken friday night. Big rainstorm and all of a sudden it stopped rainy and got cool.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b153/ea90744/93876c86.jpg

Saturday would be the day that I would go back to the airport. My friend Joe offered to take me to FLL where I would catch WN 2247/1702 ( FLL-HOU-LAX ) home.

At about 12pm, he came to my hotel and we went to Boston Market for a little lunch. After that, I was driven to FLL Intl Airport. I went inside and checked in for my flight at the Kiosk. I was issued Boarding Card C … no biggie. It wasn’t really crowded until I got passed the security checkpoint.

Boarding commenced at about 135pm. This flight was full. Crew appeared not-so friendly. The aircraft was N739GB ( Boeing 737-700 ). We pulled out the gate somewhere around 2pm. It was pretty windy today with excessive gusts... you know what that means up in the air !! Our cruising altitude was 40,000 feet for the flight to HOU. Most of it was a little bumpy … as we flew along the western florida coast, and directly south of the Gulf coastline...and flew over the city of Naaaaaaleans !

We got to HOU pretty much on-time. Came in at Gate 48. My connecting flight would leave at Gate 49.

Boarding call for continuation of flight 1702 ( LAX-OAK) would begin at 435pm. Our scheduled departure was scheduled for 450pm. We would leave 20 minutes later ...as we had to wait for some connecting passengers from another WN flight. Meanwhile, I pulled out a turkey sandwich and begin munching on it.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b153/ea90744/42200517.jpg

The flight was pretty much bumpy. A more frienlier crew than the last flight. This leg was also full, though 49 passengers continued onto OAK. The skipper never informed us of our cruising altitude..oh well. Landing at LAX was a bit bouncy off the tarmac ... maybe because of the wind/rain in the vicinity. We landed 8 minutes behind schedule.

After I deplaned, I made me way home.

AS both a BUS and Air enthusiast I liked your pics and report....Coming from UK we do not book southwest as they need the traveller to be th card holder as well. So this precludes us making bookings for them.Glad you enjoyed your flight but I would have been very hungry with only a Turkey sandwich between FLL and LAX . did you get videoed by the TV programme I watch that on Cable here

Great report. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

One "technical" question. About your last picture from the airplane. Is their any possible way to avoid such looking of the lights in the ground?

I concur with September11. The only thing i didnt like about Florida, nor the south, is the humidity !

I just got back from southern California two days ago, and I absolutely love that place! BTW, I was in Anaheim at the East Shuttle area going down to Costa Mesa/Newport Beach, maybe I saw you! I used to live in Florida and indeed the humidity is rather extreme, but the weather there is fabulous. We were planning on moving to Yorba Linda, CA but we decided to move to Minnesota instead, which I cannot wait to get out of! For me after MN, it's either southern California or Florida!!

I did this run 10+ years ago.. Unfortunately at the time it was a multi-multi-multi stop itinerary.. and I was moving back east from having done my time in Los Angeles. It was amazing how many cities you could see for $89. Nice to see you can do it in only one stop now  Wink

Great trip report!

Thanks for posting that! As many airplanes as I've seen fly overhead going to/from Florida in my 19 years working at MSY, this is the first picture I've seen looking down at me!

MSY is just visible in the lower left section of the developed area just above the Mississippi River.

Did you fly over bad weather or something because FL410 is pretty unusual for a domestic flight. I can't say that I have ever flown that high on a plane before. Usually it's between FL350 and 400. I've never been any higher than that. Cool pictures.
