Hi all respected A.netters,
It's been really long time I didn't post my trip report. I have been travelling here and there but I couldn't wait any longer to post my good experience on Business class (They call it "Royal Silk Class") I was lucky enough to get upgraded due to the fact that the aircraft was full but there was one seat left on Business class so they offered that to me. That made my day after many tiring weeks of working.
Here we go with the flight detials:
Flight No. : TG922
Date: 20 January 2006
Route: BKK - FRA
A/C Sub Type: Boeing 747-400
Aircraft Registration: HS-TGO (Bavornrangsri)
Class: Royal Silk Class (Business Class)
SEAT: 23A
STD: 12.35
Push back: 12.31
STA: 19.05
ATA: 19.26
This is the aircraft which I took to fly to Frankfurt.
Having been planing to take a trip back to Belgium, I finally got my ticket ready though It was on stand by as it was ID ticket (Airliners travelling) but still I'd take a chance on it.
Fortunately, I was at Don Muang Airport already in the early morning for work before taking my flight in the afternoon. I checked the booking and it seemed that the aircraft was full so I was keeping my fingers crossed to get myself accepted on board.
At around 11.30, I went to ID check-in counter (Row 4) to have my name listed on the flight TG922 and was informed to come back to check if I'd get any seat by 30 mins later.
30 Mins had passed and I came back to check the flight status, everything was so unsure. Somehow I had my boarding pass issued with "Stand By Seat No." So they informed me to go stand by at the gate.
Here is my boarding pass, you can see with Stand by Seat written on it.
Immigration for departure here always makes my nerve racking. They provide quite slow service and I was in such a hurry trying to make my way to the gate within 15 mins. But finally I was at the gate and it was bus gate to the aircraft. This was where I knew that I was upgraded to Business class.
Flight information screen at the gate before out to the bus.
Welcome to the REAL world! it SUCKS but you are gonna LOVE it!

This is my in-flight personal TV screen which I enjoyed myself with the movie called 'In Her Shoes' and several comedy sitcomes and some other Thai movies.
TV screen remote control attrached to the seat but can be pulled out so you could feel like laying down on the couch at home exercising your fingers. (Nope, I'm not a really couch potato, alright!!?)
This was my leg room I had. You could see it would even give the space left after my carry on bag was put down there.
This is to operate my reclining seat with the back massage function.
Prepare to take off. I could see Lufthansa aircraft was taxing on the run way too.

After my flight was airborned, I went to check out the toilet and it was really nice decorated with all these products. Have a look!!
Real Thai orchids
When I returned to my seat, I surprisingly received a very nice amenity kit from BIOTHERM HOMME. Have a look! Isn't this AMAZING!????
Inside the bag!
This bag can be seperated in two so there could be a big and small one. I think it's really nice!!
Later on, there was an annoucment from inflight manager informing us about the meal served during the flight. They were about to serve us lunch and 5 hours later there would be dinner. Before landing they would provide some sandwiches. I was really looking forwards to what they have just annouced.
This is the menu for first class, but I couldn't stand leaving the aircraft without asking one for my friend's collection so..............
This was an appertizer. It's smoked salmon with Salad.
Main course was New Zealand Beef with boiled potato!! Man, I was so HAPPY!
There was a bar on board, drinks were served on request. They really have everything.
When I finished my main course, here came the desert. TG crews were serving us assorted cheese and seasonal fresh fruits. This is how they do it.
And I got what I asked for.......................
Man, that was really fulling me up. I watched in-flight movies till I fell asleep. It was a little cold inside the aircraft, but blanket has been given away to passengers right when we were on board. I opened my window and I believe we were flying over the indian ocean. I could see the horizon so I took a shot before going back to sleep.
6 hours has passed (I think) I woke up again when crews started preparing another meal. But I am always ready for that.
We started with shrimp cocktails canape as an appertizer.
Then some salad and meat for starter.
And my main dish was chicken curry with Thai jasmin rice. I didn't feel away from home after all.
The desert I had fruit tart and tiramitsu but I had just the kiwi tart. (sorry if the picture was a little too dark)
After a second big meal, I watched another movie before going to sleep. I kept being awake as my throat got dried out all the time, but crews were very kind to always offer me drinks. I had a nice sleep though.
As I was sound asleep, I finally got woken up again when I heard the annouce to prepare landing. And here I was..... At FRANKFURT airport. It was a pretty big airport but I couldn't see much of it because I had to catch another LH flight to Brussels.
Here is the FRA airport.
My trip went so smoothly. I didn't miss any flights, as my tickets are always on stand by, and they were all going very well as I planed. I spent only 4 nights and 5 days in Europe then I caught my flight back home to BKK with the same aircraft. But I didn't get upgraded on the way back because the aircraft wasn't that full. But still TG is really GOOD on Economy class too. I had pretty good seat. It was right in the front of economy class, in the middle row after big TV screen and it's aisle seat so I had pretty good leg room too.
Enjoy the report and the picture and HAVE A NiCE DAY!!

Wonderful trip report !
Thai's new J Class product looks fantastic.
I'm debating between choosing Thai or SQ for a trip to Singapore in late April. Thai's J class product is almost US $ 1000 cheaper than SQ's and looking at the high quality of the product you experienced, I may just opt for it.

Well what I've heard is that SQ has a very nice product also. But I personally think they are way too expensive anyway!!

Nice report, Ken. Brings back fond memories. The new Business Class product is amazing, and Thai service is always exceptional. They are one of the really classy carriers, aren't they. I think only Cathay rivals tham.
Cheers

Well, SQ is expensive because you get what you pay for. No stupid upgrades and no stupid F upgrades where CX gave me the wrong menu. It was ridiculous. Brekfast menu was given on lunch flight BKK-SIN. No blue label was served. You get what you pay for, and in SQ F I know there are no upgraded clowns.

I have never seen upgraded people in Thai First either, and I have flown them a number of times. The poster was an airline employee, upgraded only because the Y cabin was full, and the upgrade was to Royal Silk (Business). SQ does the same.
I am not sure whether or not you meant to be offensive, and I really dont care, but that is certainly the impression you created - unusual from someone from Thailand.
Cheers
Bill.

Yes, the new TG Business Class is excellent. I flew them FRA-BKK in April 2005 when Royal Silk Class had just been installed on the first 747.
On the way back to FRA it was the older C-class (or should I say 'new-old' Business Class as there even is an older version around?). That was a bit of a disappointment.
But, I saw that the fares in C-class have risen considerably which isn't that surprising as the numbers of seats in F and C have dropped with the new seats.

Well, that's strange. Because on my way to FRA and Back to BKK, it is the same Aircraft with the same registration. So I didn't experience that new-old thing.

Kenneth - nice report. The food looks really good. I miss flying TG 747s and need to go somewhere soon just to check out the new interiors. Sounds like you had a great trip!
Thanks Christ. Besides, I am going down to Phuket in 2 weeks and I think I am going to catch the flight that came from FRA-BKK-HKT with boing 747-400.
I hope it's the same aircraft I took to FRA.

Last spring there was only one refurbished 747 around. TG told me this particular aircraft flew 3 times per week BKK-FRA and 1 p.w. BKK-MUC. Flighttime BKK-FRA is about 11 hours arriving at around 6 am (TG920?). Return to BKK at around 3 pm (TG921?) with another 10 hours to fly, which means that the same aircraft can't make a daily run on this route.
With most of their 747's been refurbished by now, chances are much smaller of experiencing the new-old thing.

As a tip you can upgrade on TG on a standby basis at check in for USD $740 per segment. I do it all the time - works out much cheaper than buying a J class ticket.
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

I didn't know they would do that. That'd be good for people who are willing to pay a little more for better seats.....
