JetBlue Flight 11
Scheduled Departure (JFK) 9:20PM
Scheduled Arrival (FLL) 12:15AM
Actual Departure (JFK) 9:05PM
Actual Arrival (FLL) 12:15AM
My friends and I decided to spend a long weekend in Sunny Isles a few weeks ago and bought last minute tickets on JetBlue.com for $207 R/T per person. The cheapest fare was $154 on Spirit, but I've heard horror stories about them and I usually fly B6 when going to Florida anyway.
We arrived at JFK on Thursday evening around 7:30PM for our 9:20PM flight. We just missed the 7:45 to FLL, but no matter. We already had our boarding passes, security lines were very short, and within minutes we were having dinner at the Sports Bar inside the food court, air side. Terminal 5 is a dump, even with JetBlue's spruce up. It still boggles my mind that this used to be the TWA Domestic terminal, which I flew out of regularly in the 1970's and 1980's. Some flights to Europe also operated from it, notably to Lisbon and Cairo for a time.
Around 8:20PM we heard an announcement that Flight 11 to Fort Lauderdale was in "final" boarding. We were like..."WHAT?" The flight is supposed to leave at 9:20 and our boarding passes indicated boarding would be at 8:50PM. The plane had arrived early from FLL and the crew were anxious to get us out as quickly as possible. Despite a very full flight, the front cabin door of our Airbus A320 - "You and Me and a Plane Named Blue", was closed promptly at 9:01PM a full 19 minutes before departure. Pushback occured at 9:05PM and we taxied quickly to the runway and were airborne at 9:15PM. Flight time was scheduled for 2 hours 48 minutes due to some choppy weather around the Carolinas. Take off was powerful and smooth. The crew were the usual JetBlue friendly. Drinks were passed out around 10:00PM followed by the snacks. The crew made three rounds with the snacks, which I thought was nice, given the full flight and the late hour. We hit very rough turbulence about halfway through the flight. We were sitting towards the rear, where the legroom is supposedly better than up front. I was watching Jurassic Park on USA Network and not really aware of the bouncing. There was a tiny dog a few rows ahead of us that started to bark a lot but was subdued by the owner.
Descent into FLL was quick and we landed at 12:04AM, taxiing for several minutes as we had apparently landed far from the JetBlue gates that are in the same concourse as Southwest.
Deplaning was quick and we were off to the rental counter and to our friend's condo for the weekend.
The return flight, on JetBlue flight 14 was uneventful, other than the fact that the flight was 1 hour 15 minutes late on departure, but thanks to a strong jet stream, our flight took only 2 hours and we landed just 15 mins late. The plane was "Mystic Blue". Boarding was done through the rear and the front, so we got to walk around the aircraft. The plane was routed as FLL-JFK-SLC. Full flight. Cabin crew were really ditzy on this one. Nice but our male flight attendant was a total idiot.
All in all, great flights. Dependable service and despite the delay, B6 did a good job. Love that airline.

Well don't believe everything but there is a lot of bad stories about them and I would say a fair amount it true. I don't like the FA's a lot. Some are great but I have met some that just piss me off. But overall Spirit is great, but not as great as B6 though.
