This trip was my 23rd birthday vacation. Being my first time out of MDW(I haven't been there in almost 10 years) and my first time flying WN I was very excited and nervous as I haven't flown semi-transcon since I was about 8.
MDW is a very Nice airport! I arrived for my flight about 2 hours ahead of time. I checked in online and received an A boarding pass as I was # 25 to checkin on an overbooked flight.
I went straight through security with no problems and went to the Gate.
The CSR announced boarding to the city of "lost wages and this is an oversold flight". before boading I got a shot of that SWA whale plane
My hands started sweating and I was nervous the WHOLE flight. I took my seat in 9A. I was a bit nervous because this was my first flight to LAS and the length of the flight. WN pushed back on time and we were off to LAS. The Captain announced we were headed into some 40 mph head winds so we would get into LAS about 10-15 minutes later than expected. Also on this flight one of our F/A's was/is a semi-finalist on American Idol but I forgot her name. It was snowing and cloudy so after take off and the first 20 minutes we ran into what I believe you anetters call "chop". The usual service of drinks and peanutes and snackboxes were served. I just put on my Mary J. Blige album and tried to relax.
After what seemed like a long flight to me we were in decent to LAS. I dont know what happen but we took some type of dip like on a rollercoaster and that sinking feeling came into everyone's stomach and the entire cabin went "whooooooooooooo" lol.
We landed at McCarren at about 4pm local time. This was a nice airport to me. I finally saw Virgin Atlantic in person but I couldn't get a pic of it. I took one of the shuttles to the Luxor which is a magnificent hotel! While in Vegas I think I went to every hotel on the strip and saw some of the most IGNORANT THINGS I ever saw! I was having so much fun. I spent more time in MGM than my own hotel. The highlight of my trip was the Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton and my God Cirque Du Soleil's KA at the MGM. Words can not express how GREAT KA was. If I go back I will go see Zumanity and maybe O.
Well after two days in LAS it was time to come back to Chicago!
SWA Flight 1225 LAS-MDW B737-700
Dept: 840am Arr: 210pm local. Actual 145pm local
Seat 7D Gate C9
I was soooooooo tired and ready to go home. I arrived at McCarren at 645am. I printed my boarding pass the day before and got an A boarding pass being 11th to check in.
I was also very hungry so I ended up getting a pizza slice and iced tea. Our Plane arrived at the gate but it was yellow lol
This flight was about 95% full. There was no one in between me and my seat mate so we had more room. I tried to sleep on the plane but I couldnt. We had an on time departure. Honestly I was so much more relaxed on this flight. The F/A's were very attentive. I read Spirit Mag and Skymall(I need to buy some things out of there lol)
We landed in MDW early which surprised me. All the Captain said was "prepare for arrival to chicago" then like 30 minutes later we were on the ground to HARD breaking! I saw one of the supervisor's from Airline, the one with the short blonde hair.
Well my first flight on SWA was very nice despite my nervousness on the first leg. The Tram at LAS is much better than the one at ORD imo. But SWA were right one time with everything which was a plus! I loved being in LAS for 2 days. But I'm going to have to step up my workouts now because I ate so much junk while I was there after already loosing 45 pounds. Well thats it for my little report! Hope it came off okay. I want to try long haul next sometime like Hawaii or London.

Very Nice trip report. Midway is a nice airport but they need to extend the runways. My auntie lives on the southside near the airport and she complains about the noise. Las Vegas is a nice city to visit. I love the Mandala Bay Resort Hotel. I will be flying to Vegas in July on Ted to visit cousins. Hope you enjoyed your trip.

Yeah everything is so close in that vacinity. When I flew into MDW from DEN on Ted I thought we were going to clip the fence cause we were very low on approach. You need to get registered with Mileage Plus and support Chicago's hometown airline United Airlines. I am a premier this year with United and they are really stepping their game up.

Enjoyed reading it, and some cool pics!
I wonder how long it will be before we see airlines advertising stuff other than there own airline on the inside of the winglets! But it is good marketing for WN to use every inch of space of their aircraft to plug their product.
Im going to LAS in just under a month. Anything you recommend as a must do?
I get the feeling that we aren't going to have enough time to do everything.
How did u fair in the casino's? Hope you came back with more than you got there with!

I didnt win anything! I mostly played the slot machines. I suggest you see one of the Cirque Du Soleil shows! Either KA at MGM Grand, Zumanity at New York New York, O at Bellagio, or Mysterre at Treasure Island I think it is. Tickets can be purchased at each of the hotels website! But there is a lot to do in vegas depending on how long you stay there.
I joined Rappid Rewards, AAdvatage and Mileage PLus. The only one I haven't tried yet is United. I thought I would be on the hometown airline but AA had more frequencies to the place i first few to last october. I'll try United one day since I did the Other two.

I flew Southwest for the first time back in November. I flew MDW-HOU-MDW (Bayou Classic) and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Besides the unassigned seating, Southwest is great!
I also read your other trip report to IND and I want to say I was there for Circle City Classic, too! My guy was in the parade and he lives in Indy so I went to see him and kick it.

I'm from STL, but I fly UA and Star Alliance almost exclusively. UA and US have always been great for me - so I'll second the motion! Sometimes, though, ya' just CAIN'T beat WN for PRICE!
Quoting Tsaord (Reply 3): I can understand about the noise! It seemed like we were going to land on top of the houses and buildings! Then all of a sudden we came over that gate and hit the runway.
When I have flown WN to MDW, on a couple of occasions we flew east over the suburbs toward the I-57/Dan Ryan interchange and turned toward the airport to land. Interesting, but brief view toward downtown. It's weird flying that low, but it's really something to be in your car passing MDW with a plane bearing down on the runway.
Quoting September11 (Reply 12): Interesting photos of MDW terminal -- looks much better since my last visit there years ago.
That's because they've completely rebuilt it with the main terminal on the other side of Cicero Avenue with a bridge across Cicero.

Now that you mentioned it! Southwest almost made me have an accident on Cicero! I had to stop at ford city mall to pick up my contacts on my way to ORD. So I was going to hop on I/55 to the kennedy. There I am Coming past those Giant gates where I could see ATA tails..all of a sudden a WN plane came out of no where and went over the gate. My eyes were just locked on it untill i realized the car in front of me stoped and I had to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting them. I was never that close to an airplane from the ground coming in like that! Not even at ORD when I park on RiverRoad and those AA Mad Dogs are on final lol.

Yea I did. I took the rail from MGM to the Hilton for go to the Star Trek Experience. Dang it seemed like I was on a mile walk to the MonoRail when I went in MGM. That rollercoaster was run at New York. I hadnt been on one in years.

Nervous about the length of the flight?? Hmm...
Anyways, a great report and LAS brings back many memories for me. I flew out from there to Oakland on America West on my first trip to the USA. I was a wide eye-ed boy of 13 then trekking across Hawaii, California, Nevada and Canada.
Welcome to my starry one world alliance, a team in the sky!
Well yes. The flight was 4 hours 5 minutes. I hadn't flown for that far before since I went to Phoenix to visit family over 13 years ago. So I got nervous because I thought "well anything could happen in the air in 4 hours" because I was still quite the nervous flyer in my adulthood. Now I can't wait for this flight.
