For those not in Australia , this is a 2 hours flight in a Duchess up the East Coat of Australia.

I was elected to write this trip report for the flight Chris , Andrew and I embarked on Wednesday last week.
I woke up as the night before had been rather late. The windows felt cold as my nose pressed up against it to peer outside. There was cloud and alot of it and it was low. "Oh know!" the slow walk that felt fast to the phone 9967 9810 onto the YSSY ATIS. Cloud was @ 800 feet and scattered @ 1200. "Damn" oneself thought ... I was not going to let the cloud dampen ( punny! ) my day!. The shower was hot ( isn't it always?! ) and into the car I got. The 4WD had almost lost her way to BK. But after Ryde , she knew where she was and before I knew it I was at Georges Hall Bakery. ( That place sells some good stuff !)
I arrived at CAS to figure out I did not know where the front door was ! I felt rather stupid holding my headset bag and flying stuff and having to ask the gardener where the front door was ! After all , I was meant to be a pilot!.
Straight in and out I was with Chris and Andrew at a Duchess ... " this isn't ours" Chris said " where is ours then?" I asked , wanting ours to be okay ! "getting fixed" " oh really ... " " but it is okay ... we'll see in the run up bay " FEW !! everything was okay ...
We climbed into VH-JRT Duchess from South Coast Aviation for our trip up to YPMQ. After some searching for the 2nd VDO ( or Air switch ) we started the engines. No taxi call anymore on 199.900 , straight to the run up bay. The left Mag gave us some trouble , and Chris had never had Plug Fouling !! "WHAT???" I said .. myself having done 40 hrs and he done in excess of 400 I could not believe it. ( We know Jets don't have Mags ). Lowered the RPM and pulled the mixture back. RPM up again and leave it for a while. Sure enough the plug ( spark plug ) was perfect!.
Lined up runway 29R for a DEPP to the North via the Lane. We took off and were following some Cessna 172/182. Due to the foulness of our air that day , Parra was hard to see. Made some calls in the Lane and continued North. Hornsby railway sheds in the distance I saw my pad. We kept on to Patonga , not before flying overhead Pittwater looking for Will in his boat!!!
From Patonga we tracked for the most western ( bad english I know ) part of the Aeropelican ( yes Kimpton ) CTAF. From here we went to West Maitland and found our traffic. VFR flying North of Sydney was great ! Clear as the waters in Tahiti !
From West Maitland VOR we went up the Visual 'track' through the William Town Zone. Stay below 1000' and follow the train line. It was awesome.
You track via towns such as PATERSON , DUNGOG , GLOUCESTER and finish at WIRRADGURIE which is directly West from Taree!. From here we tracked to Queens Lake and into YPMQ. Joined the circuit on crosswind and carried out standard CTAF radio work.
Landing in YPMQ was good although the Captain would say otherwise ?? A meeting with Grandparents and Floody who ladned real hard on the runway ( we saw his whole approach ).
A bite to eat the the stomach was ready for our return trip to Bankstown. We had a VERY smooth ride up through the hills and we went Coastal home.
The DEPP was good , back tracking the runway and a rolling start. Departed overhead and went out over the water , down to 500'. We tracked the coastline at 500' until SUGARLOAF POINT ( Seal Rocks for the surfers of you! )where you are required to contact Willy Approach 5nm north of Broughton Island. We got clearance to keep tracking 500' south bound coastal. I got to see the beach where I got my 4WD bogged on!! Many memoirs came back! hehe.
We had to report at Port Stephens and then at Nobby's ( Newcastle )
Still @ 500' we flew through the heads into Broken Bay.
Flying past Barren Joey Head ( aka Palm Beach , Summer Bay !)on this perfect afternoon. I got us a little lost around the start of the lane but we saw Prospect easy. I did the radio calls and pointed out the Chris some good ( well I think so ) points to fly by ( on the ground ) to get onto 11L well. 120.900 on the radio and info INDIA was current , 11L for Arrivals. Great ! not landing into the sun.
We taxied back to CAS and shut her down. A beautiful day for flying with excellent company. I would like to thank Chris once again for a great day , thank you.
