My first trip report here on a.net. I was planning to write it right after my trip but for various reasons never got around to it.
But here goes and I'll try to remember as much as possible from the pics!
This would be my 21st trip to Singapore since I got my nonrev privileges four years ago. I just love that city for it's nice climate and all there is to do there as well as the fact that the official language is English!
My girlfriend left two days ahead because I had signed up for an extra night shift at work, so I slept a couple hours at work after my shift, woke up at noon, and caught the bus to the terminal.
With an hour and a half to go before departure the queues for TG961 economy was already long. I got lucky though and a girl who used to work in our customer service center was now the check in agent at the business class desk for this flight. She saw me and waved me over when she was free from other pax!
I checked in my bag and got a boarding pass with GATE printed as the seat assignment and was told the flight was -8 in economy. Hearing this I began mentally preparing to catch a flight down to FR A later on as that was my intended backup.
I thanked her and went through security which was surprisingly fast despite so many people departing at that time.
On my way out to gate 17 I browsed through the few shops there are on that pier but found nothing interesting so I headed over to the gate where I could sit down and read for a while to pass the time.
Not much people there at first but soon enough it began filling up and 45 minutes before departure it looked like this.
Always nice to see a 744 at an ARN gate!
10 minutes later the gate agents called for boarding to begin. A couple of seats in front of the gate desk got free so I went over there to wait for them to call my name.
After most of the pax had boarded they began calling standbys. First a family with children and two young couples then a few more minutes of waiting while the agents seemed to work furiously with sorting different boarding passes.
Finally my name was called and I walked over to one of the agents. She asked me if I was traveling with the young woman and infant that was sitting next to me on the bench. I said "No, I'm alone!" to which she replied "Congratulations then, you're in! Last seat on the flight!"
Right after this they announced there was no more available seats. A young guy with dreadlocks wearing shorts, t-shirt and a backpack apparently got quite upset at this and began arguing with the agents about getting a jump seat or a crew seat. "Good luck!" I thought as I headed to the plane.

I found my seat 36H to be an aisle seat on the right window row with space available for my carry on in the overhead bin right above me!
Soon after I had boarded the flight was closed and pushed back from the gate. I noticed we were about 20 minutes late at this point.
Taxi was quite fast out to RWY 19R where takeoff was begun without having to wait and soon I felt and heard the lovely rumble that you get with a 744 on TOGA power!
Takeoff and climb was done pretty fast even though it was a full flight.
Not much later the Fasten Seatbelt sign was turned off and the first drink service began.
I had some coke and settled down with some newspapers and magazines until it was time for dinner.
The choice in economy on this flight was fish or chicken (It was presented a bit more detailed in the menu but this is what I remember). I had the chicken which turned out to be very nice and quite sufficient to last me until breakfast.
After dinner I continued reading and watched a movie on the big screen until I dozed off. I love the seats on TG as the pitch is better and the seats themselves feel more comfortable than any other carriers I flown between Europe and Asia.
Drink rounds were made throughout the night and about three hours before arrival I went to the lav for my usual refresher routine. I've found this to be the perfect time before the crew turn on the lights before breakfast and people start queuing to the lavs.
I got back to my seat just as the lights were turned on!
Breakfast service began and I had the continental choice which was pretty much the same as on most other carriers but still nice!
My area of the plane had gotten breakfast first it seemed so I had plenty of time to eat before the trays were collected.
Soon thereafter decent began into Don Muang Intl. where we touched down just a little after 5am Bangkok time.
I was pretty quickly off the plane and went over to the TG transfer desk where I waited behind an elderly couple who didn't know how to connect to a CX flight to HKG. When they had been showed to the CX desk I went up to the agent and showed my staff ID and ticket and said I had arrived on TG961 from Stockholm and was continuing to Singapore and was listed on
TG403 which was the first flight to SIN in the morning.
I was told the flight was wide open and got a seat right away and my bags checked through to SIN!
With a little over two hours before my next flight I decided to do some spotting. It turned out to be a bit harder than I had thought to find a good view but after some searching I found a window next to a small cafeteria that had a nice view over one of the ramps.

A JAL 744 was towed into the gate the UA 744 had just been pushed back from.
At this point I noticed time had passed by quickly and it was only 40 mins left to departure so I decided to head over to the gate and go through the security checkpoint there.
After security I found my gate to be the one furthest out on that pier. When I got there there was still no gate agents in sight so I had time for some more spotting from the windows and the end of the pier.
Saw a 747-400 in the new TG colors on my way to the gate!

The weather up on level was great and the flight was very smooth this morning.
Breakfast was served and it was much the same as my previous flight but after 3 hours at the airport I was feeling a bit hungry again so I downed everything but the raisins! (No comments... )

I can't imagine any airport more pleasant looking and relaxing feel than Changi!
Short queues through immigration and then I'm out!
After spending 10 relaxing days in this amazing city it was time to go home. Since we had done quite a bit of shopping and had bags that felt like they were loaded with bricks our only option was to try one of the airlines we can fly business class with. That meant SK, LX, LH or OS!
SK and LX went out since they go via BKK and loads out of BKK looked very bad.
LH and OS didn't look very promising either but they left an hour apart so we had the option of trying both flights.
I got us listed online for LH777 SIN - FR A and LH3000 FR A - ARN.
When we go to the airport I was surprised to see Lufthansa's check in desks almost empty even though this flight was supposed to be full.
The agent we checked in with confirmed though that the flight looked pretty bad and asked if we would accept separate seats, downgrade or only one of us flying if there was only one seat left if it came to that. I told him we'd try it out and was told to wait until 25 mins before departure.
That time came and went...
With 20 mins to go we were finally called up and told that we both got seats in business but not together. "Never mind as long as we're on the flight!" I told him.
I wrestled up our bags on the belt, got our boarding cards and then we both ran off to the immigration checkpoint.
With 15 mins left we ran through the concourse to our gate and got there just in time as the final passengers were entering the air bridge to the plane.

When we got onboard I was thrilled to see it was the new lie-flat seats.
Both our seats were in the middle of the 2-3-2 seating and I could see that I would still have to climb over the person next to me if I wanted to get out during the night just like on the old cabin config.
Unfortunately my camera had developed some battery problems so I don't have any pics of my own from the return trip.
Service turned out to be much nicer than my previous flight in LH business and both dinner and drinks services left nothing much to be desired.
The seats were very comfortable to me and I had no problems with the slight tilt in the flat position. This was the first time ever for me to sleep for 8 hours straight on a plane!
Breakfast was a nice continental one that was served about an hour and a half before arrival.
Arrived to a cloudy and wet Frankfurt a little after 5am but without the aching body I usually have after long night flights thanks to the new business seats!
We found the Lufthansa transfer desk and got a quick check in done for our next flight but unfortunately with the dreaded GATE seat assignment...
While walking through the terminal I spotted the A321 Lufthansa has painted in its retro scheme. Awesome looking!
Can't wait to see the two retro schemes SAS has planned for their A319s!
Did a little duty free shopping before heading over to the gate.

It seemed like there was a lot of people for this A320 to ARN... But then a few minutes after boarding began our names were called up and we were told we got seats in business class and together this time!
The flight was pretty uneventful but left us with full bellies after a second breakfast this morning!
We landed in Stockholm a little after 9am and was greeted by warm sunshine that signaled the start of two weeks with almost constant +30C temps!

I very much enjoyed your first trip report. It was very well written and included just the right amount of detail. The way you described your experiences coupled with the great pictures made me feel as if I were there. Those LH B/C seats look very inviting. I hope to give them a try some day. Changi airport has got to be one of the nicest I've ever been to and so is the city of Singapore; a real shoppers paradise. If you've never flown on an L1011 before you really need to treat yourself to this delight before they're gone from passenger service. It was one of my most favorite a/c to fly in. I look forward to your next report! BTW, I believe that Phuket Air propliner is a NAMC YS11.

Excellent report with excellent pics! By the way, the first attempt worked with me (i.e. I could see all pictures). Be happy you went LH in C Class.. I took them FRA-SIN in Y a year ago and almost lost my legs, along with horrible service and catering
Slight correction: It is Indian (formerly Indian AIrlines, IC). A plane in the old IC color scheme.. check the database for the new excellent one. But you may be right, a merger of AI and IC is suggested and forseeable

It seems I hit the bandwidth limit of my webspace probably because the pics were about 500k a piece. I've resized them and it looks like it's working now!
