On March 23rd I flew across the pond to Las Vegas, ready for the meet up later that weekend Big grin

In the early hours of the morning (00:10), I boarded the National Express Coach to LHR, a 5hr trip from Leeds.

Arriving into LHR on time at 5:40am, I made my way to Terminal 3 to the UA check-in area, where to my surprise I noticed a row of easy check in machines, so I made my way straight to them and checked in for my upcoming flights. After this, a quick trip to the bag drop and I was all done. No long lines to wait in for a change Big grin

Following a short wait in Security control, I passed into Departures and took a few pics......

Our gate was soon called (Gate 20) and so I set off on the long walk to find my aircraft.

So, there she was, shining in the morning sunlight.

We boarded on time at 09:20, and I was soon seated in my Economy Plus Seat (20A), ready for the trip.

We soon pushed back, and commenced our taxi to runway 9R....

....where we took off from at 10:30  Smile

Our flight time was scheduled at around 11 hours, giving us an early arrival into SFO.

In flight service soon commenced, comprising of a bag of munchies, with a drink (Baileys - $5)

This was followed by a very good, filling lunch of chicken in Sauce with all the usual extras......  Smile

While in flight, I watched "Aeon Flux" and "Walk The Line", and took a few pics from the airshow system....

Pretty soon, we landed in SFO at 13:00 local time (40 mins early), on 28L - a very nice approach too Big grin

After deplaning, I went to the immigration area to find it empty  eek , therefore the passage thru was very quick, as was the trip thru baggage claim and customs. In fact, 30 mins after touchdown, I was walking to Terminal 3 for my connection  bigthumbsup .

I came across the "Art" area in T3....

...Followed by a number of interesting aircraft models suspended from the ceiling Big grin

Walking past the gate area, I spotted a JFK bound "p.s" 757, N555UA.

I then went to a bar for food and a nice beer, while I waited for my late running flight on Ted.

Leg 2:-

Date: 23rd March 2006
Departure Apt: SFO
Arrival Apt: LAS
Aircraft: Airbus A230-200 (N447UA)
Flight No: UA1416
Call sign: United 1416

My connecting Ted flight was supposed to depart at 15:41, however we eventually pushed back at 17:15, not very good, for a first impression of UA's little cousin.

I was assigned seat 4A in Economy plus, and was surprised to be told that the seat pitch in this section of the aircraft was 35 inches, wow!!

After push back, we had a quick taxi to runway 1L, where we lifted off a few mins later at 17:30. Service on the flight was a drink, and a bag of munchies. While in flight, I took a few pics, as we crossed the Sierra Nevada Mountain range.

Flight time to LAS was just over an hour, with wheels down at LAS being accomplished by 18:40 (approx 1hour 30 mins late).

After deplaning, I made my way to the main terminal and baggage claim, where my bag arrived 25 minutes later.

In the Terminal.

A short cab ride later, and I was in my hotel - The Flamingo, ready for my first night in Vegas Big grin

The Flamingo.

I will not be writing about the return leg, due to the fact that the Ted (LAS - LAX) flight was only 45 mins, and the UA (LAX-LHR) flight was a night one, so I basically slept most of the way home, and I took no pics either.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this short report.  Smile

Comments Welcome!!

Excellent pics - I think TED was taking lessons from AS on how to be really really late for no apparent reason . . . they told us yesterday the inbound to LAS was late because of LAS weather????  faint  Partly cloudy, +77F, but apparently not good enough for AS or their 739s.  irked

Great meeting you Lee, hope we can make another meet in the future . . .

Flow control was in effect that morning into SFO. (I know, becuase I worked it.)

Also, approach control around Vegas tends to get into a tiff if they can't see the mountains surrounding the airport.

Great report, Lee. If it hadn't been shut down we'd have stopped to take the 5 minute helo ride around the damn dam and you'd have had another airplane to put on the report.....oh well....next time.

Excellent shots..... was economy plus alot extra? Was it worth it?

Great pics. I live in Edmonton, nice to see you flew right over us. As an Airnutter, I am always looking up when I see a flight overhead cruising to and fro Europe/California. I also do most of my travel to LHR, great to see the "action" in the terminal.

I was just curious about one thing... United charges for alcohol in the economy section on international flights? If they do, are other airlines matching this on international markets?

AA also charges for alcohol trans-Atlantic. I believe UA offers alcohol complimentary on trans-Pacific.

Nice report and pics! Wow, United's transatlantic meals don't look to bad at all! I actually went to Vegas on Mar 28, but I was flying Northwest. I hope to try TED soon.
