so on Sunday 2 April I awoke nice and early to prepare for my long day which would include three flights and and the main event The Australian Formula One Grand Prix.
I arrived at the airport at about 5:10 am to a rather empty airport to check in for QF795. I used the Qantas Quickcheck self serve checkin system It was quick and easy and the great thing is I got to select my own seat. I had already been assigned a seat which I continued with as at that point I had three seats to myself.
After wandering around the check in area I bought a few things for the day and proceeded to security. As it was not 5:30 the security check points hadn't opened yet so I had to wait another 5 or 10 minutes
Qantas Check in
Once I had passed through security which as usual something in my bag security didn't like I got some extra attention. Once they worked out it ws my umbrella all ws good and I was free to go. As I had about an hour before boarding began and after security in Canberra there are not alot of things to do except for stare out the window and watch the sun rise. Which is exactly what I did.
I took a picture of VH-VXB which turned out rather blury. So heres one from the A.net database
I boarded the 737-400 which I would be travelling to Melbourne via gate 14 which was a remote gate. This meant, yep, boarding via stairs. Boarding was quick and we got away on time. We took off to the north, which usually means a left turn and right over my house, which I spotted. Shortly after crossing into New South Wales breakfast was served.
Breakfast consisted of Weet Bix Cruch, Apple muffin and youghurt. It was nice but not enough, and I couldn't taste the honey in the weet bix. All service items were collected and the rest of the flight went on without incident.
We came into Tullamarine from.. the countryside? not sure which direction that is. Taxi to gate 9 was quick and everyone was off the plane soon after.
A shot taken in flight
After spending the day at the Grand Prix I caught the tram from Albert Park back to Southern Cross station where I would get the Skybus back to Tullamarine Airport.
I checked in for QF 460 and QF 807 using the quick check system. QF 460 would be on a 767-300 departing form gate 3. This would also be my first Business Class Experience.
As I had a few hours to burn before my flight I got a drink and a quick bite and bought some very nice chocolate. As I was walking around I saw a face, which turned out to be Mark Holden a judge on Australian Idol. We boarded on time and I took my seatin 5A which is on its own as the lay out in business was 1-2-2. We took off from the North and turned right and flew between Wagga Wagga and Canberra. The flight time was about 50 minutes. Dinner was served and the options were Salmon Salad and Thai Chicken Stir fly with Rice. I had the Stir Fry. It was very nice
I feel that the service was slightly inconsistient and the flight was too short for this kind of service. For some reason I was given Cheese and cracker with grapes while everyone else was given a green salad. Bread rolls were served however there was no salad dressing or butter on board.
Looking out at the sunset to the west
The rest of the flight was good however as we began to decend into Sydney my right ear wouldn't pressureise properly, leading to some discomfort. After landing we taxid to gate 2 and as I was in Business I was amoungst the first to disembark.
The next hour was spent wandering around as I was still having problems with my ear. I took a few shots of the Qantas domestic terminal.
QF807 due to depart at 2100 didn't depart untill 2130. I got a message at 1850 saying the flight would be departing late. However I did not get this message untill 2300 when I turned my phone back on. Needless to say I noticed the late departure when I was checking my gate number at Sydney.
Boarding began and we departed quickly to make up for lost time. The turn around time between flights was very short and as such the aircraft was not the tidiest I have ever been on. We took off to the south east and turned right to head down the coast past Wollongong. A "refreshment" was served. This consisted of Ricecracker mix and Vista mix and a bottle of water
This was not the best flight I had been on as the service was poor the refreshment was poor and my mood, thanks to my ear, didn't give me an optimistic view of the happenings.
We landed and arrived through gate 14. Exactly where I began the day. It was a quick exit as I had no checked baggage and straight to the carpark for the 20 minute drive home.
Overall Qantas continues to have good service, although occasionally they drop the ball. A particular mention of the Cute FA's on QF 460.
I hope you have enjoyed this report and you can look forward to my next one in late June after my trip to Thailand.

Nice report and pics.
I love the 1-2-2 layout in Business on some of the Qantas 767s. Although the older seats they are still very comfortable and this is a great treat if flying between SYD and AUK. The A seat, on its own, has bags of space - at the end of the flight you don't want to get off!

I know they aren't much but QFs breakfasts on shorthauls aren't too bad
QF407, (7:15am SYD-MEL) I got Cornflakes, A banana a muffin kinda thing and a bottle of juice (I had to change it because I can't handle passionfruit)

I just checked the weather stats for today and it was a west north westerly so you probably landed on 27... Did you have an A side seat? If you did I can only presume you landed on 16... Which doesn't really make sense... but whatever
