What a great weekend to be had in Dallas. We did quite a few of spotting to DAL and DFW. DFW had amazing varities, BA 777, LH MD11 (Cargo), LH A330, A340, Korean 744 (Cargo) Malaysia MD-11(Cargo) Cathay Pacific 744 (Cargo) as well as TWO ATA L-1011. Plus the many many birds of American Airlines and the occasional Airtran and Delta birds. The heat was amazing for April and it made for ok spotting weather but alot better then the freezing rain we got the LAST time I was down there.
When we were back at Patrick's Apartment he looked up the flight information and told me my flight was delayed. Oh lovely. I was scheudled to leave DAL-STL 9:00pm and arrive into STL at 10:30pm. Now I was not due to take off until 10:00pm and arrive into STL at 11:30pm. That is just wonderful....I called Southwest Airlines to confirm what we saw online and she said due to weather in the Midwest my aircraft was flying the DAL-STL-DAL-STL-DAL route back and forth and was waiting to take off to go to STL, turn around and fly back to DAL and then pick me up. So it was backlogged. She also said they had equipment changes too in STL which caused some delay there as well. I could tell this was going to be a long night.
Pat and I left his place at around 7:15pm or so. Re capped on our weekend and this girl blew bubbles out of the car and waved to me, pat said it was to him i said it was to me but oh well....she waved !!
We pulled into Love Field and he dropped me off and said bye and I quickly hurried down to security area to get my boarding pass. Got it , went into line and got through security.
Was stopped by the guy who was reading my Drivers License and said "where is Carbondale?"
I said "it is in Southern Illinois."
He said "where is that? "
I said "it is about 2 hours southeast of St. Louis, Missouri."
He said "oh ok you can go through..."
and in I walked....Quite stumped. I had NO idea what the relavance of my being in Carbondale had if I could go through security or not hahaha.
I grabbed my bags and walked down to the WN gates. I was due to leave out of Gate 2. I walked up to the agent and inquired about the weather and made small chat. She storms were pounding STL area there were reported Tornados in the area, one near Lambert Field, Airport was under a ground hold, she said SWA flights were diverting from MDW to STL holding up gates, she said it was a mess at STL. She confirmed the flight for our flight to STL just took off from STL and was on the way to DAL to pick us up. She gave me a pre boarding pass for me to pre board so I could tlak to the F/A before the flight as I sometimes do when the flight will be rushed. I went back to Mcdonalds and grabbed a quick dinner to eat. I had enough of Mcdonalds I am getting sick of it now. I finished up and decided to walk around the airport, and chekc out the new gates for AA. So i walked......and walked....and walked...and walked..15 minutes later or so I finally reached the CO gates. I still had to keep on walking!..........and walking...and walking till I reached the AA gates.
The AA gates look nice! Very clean around and felt odd to see it there of course versus DFW. I walked around some more, there was an American Eagle plane sitting at the gate for a RON. Nothing else to see in sight I walked the loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong trek back to the SWA gates.
I got to the gate and it was only 9pm. Another 30 more minutes before the plane was due to land, as we were suppossed to be taking off by now! So I am on the phone texting to people I know about storms, weather and usual blah stuff. 30 minutes passed by and no plane, but people were lining up anyway.
Finally at 9:35 the plane pulled up to the gate. They got the passnegers off and then I got on board with everyone else. Talked to the F/ about my impairment and she assured me it wouldn't be a problem. Plane was N388SW a leased plane too btw. Everyone else got on board and we finished boarding at 10:10pm. Backed out at 10:15 and we were off the ground at 10:17pm.
We could see lightning flashing in the distance. Storms would follow us all the way to STL. We hit alot of turbulence nothing severe but it kept the seat belt lights on for awhile. F/A got up to do the usual drink and snack routine. Got my usual coke. It was very hard to try and sleep because we would get the usual bump and jolt from the turbulence.
I put on my ipod and listened to music for awhile until out of nowhere we started rapidly descending. I felt the plane go nose down and stay that way for awhile. I am not daying nose down pointing to the ground thing, haha just simply the plane was lower then usual. Thne I heard the announcement for arrival in 5 minutes and trash would be done shortly. WTF?! Dang we got to STL fast. Then flaps are coming out and F/A are running around doing trash. Gear dropped and we turned left over the arch and in 2 minutes we landed onto R 30L. We braked quite fast. Taxied by the A concourse and saw United Shuttle 737, US Airways A320(ex AWA plane), at the gate and tons of AA MD80's all over the D concourse. I didn't know if they were diverts or RON it appeared to be RON.
We taxied quickly to gate E-14. I saw 3 other WN flights on the ground waiting to taxi by, I think they were part of the SWA planes that diverted from MDW. Not to sure. Stopped at the gate, called Julie to tell her we landed and where I'd meet her. Got off the plane went down to baggage and i met her and my cousin in the car.
As always it was great to see Patrick again, we had a blast together and it made for a great weekend to get away from my area and see the sights of Dallas. I don't think I ever laughed so much in my life this weekend
Hope the trip was good, apologies for no pictures as it was dark on both my flights.

Good report. I bet that was cool to see at night. I'm not usually scared of storms but those were bad. I live near Fairview Heights were a tornado did touch down. Anyway, how were the loads on the flight?

We landed and had to sit on the taxiway for 20 minutes or so because the airport had been closed and the aircraft occupying our arrival gate hadn't left yet. We sat right in front of the East Terminal, I probably saw your inbound aircraft take off.

STL-DAL it was booked 124
DAL-STL booked around 118-120 I think maybe a bit lower.
It was the first time I recall flying through the night and seeing lightning flashing the entire flight.

Wow winds must have switched quite a bit, we landed on 30L. My flight was a737-300, N388SW blue colors. So if you saw it at STL it was flying to DAL to pick my sorry, tired ass home hahaha.
