Here is my trip to Brasil. It was an amazing trip. I did not have enough room to put my full route up in the title but I will explain as we go. This is my first Trip Report so please, be honest. Praise and Critizisum is always welcome  Smile

First flight: FAT-LAX on United Airlines Express

This was the first leg of my flight. It is about a 45 min flight to LAX. The flight was pretty full on the way to LAX. One person sitting next to me actually on the connecting leg to ATL. I got to see the wonderful coast line of my beautiful state. Something everyone sould see on a UAX flight or AE flight. Just amazing! I got my glass of Ginger Ale on the flight. My favorite drink to have when I fly. Sorry everyone. I am under age to drink haha.

Second flight: LAX-ATL on Delta Airlines

This was a pretty good flight. Not that great of service as they only went down the isles two times. Once to give us a drink and sell us the head sets, and then to refill and throw away trash. Flight time was about 3 1/2 hours. I once again had my Canada Dry on this flight. I had bought a turkey sandwich before getting on the flight so I could eat some lunch. I sat with, well guess, the same person that was on my UAX flight! It was great. We kept on on our conversation. So this made the flight go by a lot faster. I had a lot ahead! This flight was pretty amazing. Nice and smooth most of the way. We hit thunderstorms in ATL when we were landing though.

Third flight: ATL-GRU on Delta Airlines

This was my best flight...till the end. Flight time on this was just under 10 hours. Great service on this flight. F/A were the best I have ever had on ANY flight! Always had smiles on their face so friendly. I sat in coach on this flight. We watched 2 movies on this flight and were served 2 meals. A dinner and a breakfast. For dinner we had a nice turkey with mashed potatos and gravy with mixed veggies, a nice role, piece of chocolate cake, and of course, a Canada Dry. For breakfast about a hour and a half before landing was a granola bar, fruit, juice, and a yogart. Yes you guessed it, a Canada Dry. Looking out on this flight was just amazing. Flying over the Amazon seeing little lights here and there for small cities. I have been on this flight quite a lot but still amazes me on how beautiful it is even at night time. We flew over the clouds with the thunderstorm below us. Watching the clouds below us light up with the lightning. We did have some frequent light turbulance. But nothing that really turned to anything big. I ended up getting sick on this flight. I do not know what the problem was but the bathroom turned out to be my friend. No, not that way but threw the top hole. I am thinking that it was the mayo from the sandwich that I had on the earlyer flight. I can not have mayo but the sandwich came with some on it. The most embarassing moment of the day, we land at GRU and over the intercom in portugese I hear them announce that we have a sick person on board so people need to exit down the right isle so the medics can get on the plane. Oh boy did I feel so embarassed. I did not ask for them to come on board but they insisted. They took me to the mini hospital care in GRU to test me for different things. Took some blood and everything else. Not a good experiance being in another country, in a doctors little place, in a airport non the less, and then breaking a sweat hopeing you make your next flight. I did make my next flight as they escorted me to my connecting flight. I did not go threw customs. This was a shocker to me. So there is the trick, get sick, by pass security  Smile.

Fourth flight: GRU-MAO on Varig Airlines

This flight was a very smooth flight. Flight time was just over 4 hours. Once again, I sat in coach class. This flight seemed to speed by. I sat next to a nice older couple that was making their final destination BVB as well. On this flight the F/A did not do much. They all seemed to congregate in Buisness class and stayed there. I do not know why this is. But what I do like to see is more male F/A on Varig Airlines. You do not see it that much in the USA. Trust me, being a plane full of beautiful women, I will NEVER pass that up. Just an observation I made. I had lunch on this flight. I ate maybe 2 bites of this horrible meal! It was pasta with a "red sauce". It had to be the worst meal I have ever had on a plane on ANY airline. I ate the roll and my 2 glasses of Guarana  Smile You can never pass this stuff up. I have it imported to me every month to my house here in Fresno. When I arrived in MAO I had a 11 hour lay over for my flight going into BVB. So I know a family in MAO and went to their house for a nice rest and eating out at the Chuhascuria (Spelling?).

Fifth flight: MAO-BVB on Varig Airlines

This flight was about 40 min. Good flight at midnight. No bumps at all. This flight had 3 male F/A! Never seen before! We were served a meal box on this flight with my Guarana  Smile The box contained a sandwich on a roll, fruit, chocolate, and cheese. Nice little meal. I would buy that any time over a meal on HP. Before landing, there was a HUGE turn for final. Seriously seemed like we were vertical up and down! It was intense. If anyone has made this turn on final approach at BVB, you know what im talking about. Once on the ground, I got off the plane on the ladder to the tar mac to the best airport. Some might call me weird but this aiport is my favorite. Very small, viewing balcony outside, nice and homey. Nice little snack places in the inside of this as well. Baggage could just use some improvement. Not big enough for everyone on a 737. These flights are packed to the rim of brasilians!

Sixth flight: BVB-Marari (Tribal air strip)

This flight was about 2 1/2 hours on a Cessna. Great flight over the most beautiful scenery I have ever witnessed. Piolt spoke no english which made it great to learn more portugese. We landed on a small grass jungle airstrip (I will put up a picture of the jungle air strip here tomorrow)

Here are a few pictures of me in the tribe.

Me with the Yanomomi cheif in Marari.

Camping out in the jungle about 20 min hike from the air strip.

On my 6 hour hike to a small shabono to give medicine to the tribal people dieing of malaria.

I have plenty more pics of me in the jungle if you all would like to see more, just let me know.

Thank you for reading this. All comments welcome. Slander, Praise, or Suggestions.  Smile

Wow. Sounds like an adventure. How often do you make this trip? Or was it a one time thing?

What time did you start in Fresno and then end at your final destination?

Thanks for the report.

Hi!

You left from FAT, so I had to check out your trip!!! I first visited FAT in August 1998 and latter I lived there during 2003! Absolutely delicious, all way to Brazil!!! Great flights of course and the highlight must have been the RG MD11 right??? Do you have the registrations of the planes you flew? In 1998 I flew from FAT to LAX with Skywest, and in November 2003 I visited YYZ so I flew from FAT to PHX with HP CRJ200 and returned on a CRJ700!!! I always love to see reports of enthusiasts out of FAT!!
regards

I make the trip to BVB and into the tribe about once a year. I make a trip to GRU about 2 times a year. I have made trips to MAO from MIA a few times as well.

Quoting FutureSDPDcop (Reply 1):

I started in Fresno at 6:50 am and ended in BVB where I stayed 2 weeks at 1 am 2 days later. The almost 12 hour layover in MAO is what tacked on a lot of time. I useually stay there for about 2 1/2 months or 3 months to make the trip worth while. It is another 2 1/2 hours from BVB to the jungle airstrip.

The jungle air strip.

Oh yes id say! haha. I have flown the MD11 from LAX-GRU many times. So it felt good to be on that bird on a domestic flight. seeing those wings cut threw the clouds like butter was awesome.

Quoting CV990 (Reply 2):

No I do not have them. I am sorry  Sad I will keep this in mind on my future trips. I am going on a trip to Canada here soon as well as Brasil of course and Ireland. Next summer is Brasil, Ireland, the UK, and Japan. I am excited!

FAT always peaks my interest of course! Just like the new MX service with the A318  Smile I hope they upgrade this to a 757! The flights are packed!

Thank you guys for the comments.  Smile

Wow-
Sounds like heaps of fun mate!
Strange, I just read a report the other day about bad flights on Varig... they use to look like a pretty good airline, but now they seem to need a bit of improvement... from what I've heard. Ohh well, Only time will tell!!!

Brazil must be one of the coolest places, I have always wanted to go there!!!

What are the seats like on the different airlines that you flew on?
~Cheers-

FAT-

Outstanding report! Just think of it, starting on 1 June you can take advantage of JJ's new daily flights from MIA to MAO...hopefully that'll cut down on your travel time.

No matter how you spell it, a Churrascaria always translates into delicious, decadent, cholesterol-laden (good cholesterol, that is) entertainment!

Well I would say the most comfortable seat I was on was the MD11 for RG. Those were pretty comphy and I had some ample leg room. The worst would be of been the MD90. I am sorry but Mad Doggs are just not for me.

Make the trip Kyle. It is well worth it! Brasil as you can tell is my favorite place to be. And, nice name  Wink My name is Kyle as well haha.

Thank you. Yes I will take that JJ flight. GRU is still a stop for me though so I will still be going there sometimes.
Yes! I love this place. I eat there quite often haha. The ones in the USA are not quite as good of course. If you go to Brasil and do not go to one, you have not been to Brasil.

This is one of the most interesting TR's I've ever read. It's nice that you are helping these people.

Thank you. I love to help people. I will admit, I am a christian so some of my trips are to help out churchs as well. But this trip was to help out some missionaries that are doctors that help keep the Yanomomi people healthy. Considerd one of the last stone age people on the face of the earth.

Here are some more pictures.

Have you ever considered flying to Venezuela (PZO) and taking the Cessna from there down into the jungle? It will make the trip way shorter than having to go all the way down into GRU. The yanomami people are spread out across the Venezuelan-Brazilian amazon. If I'm not mistaken the majority of them live in the Venezuelan side of the border. Also on your way back to the states, you can take a DC3 in PZO to Canaima airport which is near the Angel Falls (Highest in the World) where you can explore the nature there.

Yes this is a route I could take. I useually go down to GRU and MAO to pick up some things. GRU to pick up some supplys and MAO to pick up someone. BVB is where my appt is at. Yes I know the Yanomomi people are in Ven. The Yanoma and Yanomamo. I have friends that no longer work there because of Chavez has kicked them out of the country. They were with New Tribes Missions. So it makes it hard to get into the tribe now because of that. I would love to take that route though to get on that DC3.

I never quite finished this report. Sorry! But as you can tell the flights would be Marari (Cessna) - BVB (Boa Vista, Brasil) - MAO (RG) - GRU (RG) - ATL (DL) - LAX (DL) - FAT (UAX)

Birds:

Cessna
RG 737-400
RG 737-400 (same bird)
DL 767
DL 767
UAX Saab

Best flight would be the DL 767 from ATL - LAX. Flight was with my dad and we love to fly together. Plus, I came back from Brasil on a medical condition. I was bed ridden for 2 months and so my father flew down the same routes I took to get me in Brasil and take me home after 3 months. He had to help me because I was not able to walk for those 2 months. So I rode in an wheel chair the whole way back and there were Buisness Class seats available on the flight to LAX so me and my father were given them because our return tickets were earlyer so no more extra leg room available.

Thanks
Kyle
