I flew out earlier to LAS on jetBlue from JFK, it was rather uneventful so I decided not to file a full trip report, I then flew to LAX from LAS on America West which was also pretty uneventful, except for the fact that I couldn't figure out where the AW 737's previous owner was, the exit signs were in a language I didn't recognize. I also noticed that my boarding pass said US Airways on it and the in flight magazine was the US Airways one.
So on to the trip report in the topic
I headed to San Diego airport, not realizing that American Eagle left from the cummuter terminal, the rental car van driver wasn't so happy when I realized that only as we were passing the terminal on the way to the American Terminal, but I tipped him so that made up for it.

The flight was operated by American Eagle. I cleared security really early and proceeded to be bored since there really isn't alot to do there. We left on time, I must say the flight was pretty comfortable about a Saab aircraft, my first time on one and only the 2nd time I've ever been on a prop jet. We arrived into the American Eagle terminal at LAX and I had to wait about 15 mins for a bus to the Delta terminal, it was kind of a weird experience driving around the tarmac on a bus and then going up what seemed like "secret" steps to the Delta Terminal. I ate at California Pizza Kitchen and waited for my next flight.

We started boarding on time, but it seemed to take forever. We boarded by zone and I was wondering if that is really more efficient than boarding by row or by open seating like Southwest, I think in the end it depends on how quickly people settle into their seats. Our flight had a lot of people that needed to get up and use the bathroom, check and recheck their carry on and it took what seemed like forever. Seated behind me was a family of 6, all 4 of the children were under 5 and the 2 little girls cried and whined all through taxi and take off. Fortunately they slept throughout the flight only to commense more crying and whining upon landing. I blame the parents in this case, they needed help from Nanny 911 or something, it was just like cranky little babies, they were full on brats who suffered from bad parenting, like letting her run up and down the aisle while people were waiting to deplane.
This was my first time on Song, I'm a pretty loyal jetBlue customer, but this flight time out and price out of San Diego was much better than jetBlue. I enjoyed the in flight experience. TV was good, the buy on board Fruit and Cheese was good, although pretty similar to what you would get for free on jetBlue. I also enjoyed the inflight Trivia Game you can play on your seatback. The FA's were friendly and kept themselves busy throughout the flight.
Weather going into JFK was rain and it made for a bumpy descent and landing, one of the bumpiest I've had in a while. We had to taxi and hold for a gate for about half an hour, so we landed around 8, but didn't get to a gate until 8:30. Once at the gate we deplaned pretty quickly and I headed to baggage claim at terminal 3 which was an absolute zoo. There were a total of 5 incoming Song flights on only 2 working baggage carousels right next to each other so you had an awful lot of people looking for luggage. What made it worse was that even with the 2 carousels, they only were sending the bags out one flight at a time so only one carousel was operational at any given point. Our flight had to wait 45 minutes before it saw even the first bags come out. It took me over an hour to get mine and I'm sure longer for some people. after about 40 minutes I approaced the upstairs Song agent who had a snippy comment that "maybe because it's raining it takes longer". Now personally I don't really buy that excuse. I think they were understaffed. The whole bagge claim experience made me not enjoy the Song experience.
For me things only went downhill after that. I had to next go to the Airtrain which at that terminal involves going outside, it was pouring rain and there were huge puddles so I was well on my way to getting soaked. I got on the Airtrain and headed to Federal Circle to get the bus to the "overflow" long term parking where I had to park. I found the bus, which again involved a rainy walk and checked with the driver that it was going to lot 7, "yes, at 10 O' Clock he replied. This was a full 15 minutes away. I was sooooo p'd off, cuz I was already soaked and waited an hour for my bags and had I been in the regular long term parking I could have takent he air train right there. I was desperate and offered him $20 bucks to leave now, but he's a very loyal employee and declined. There are no cabs around there either.
So finally the bus departed right at 10, leaving people behind in the rain, since he is really into being on time and not waiting for them. We headed to the short drive to lot 7, which I must explain. Is in the former area around the Tower Air terminal and the lot I was in appears to have been an active Taxiway at one point in time. There is even a Fedex 727 that seems to be permanently parked there (in fact the brochure you get upon parking there says "if parked near the Fedex plane use stop 1 to exit the bus). So I got off in the lot with the 2 other people on the bus, it was still pouring rain and there were HUGE puddles at the bus stop, so now my feet got soaked crossing them too, there was no way around them. I made it to my car and headed for the exit to see the new rates for long term parking are $15 a day. They used to be around $7 or $8. So the 8 days I was gone cost me $125 to park my car. I don't think I'll be using long term parking again, it's too expensive and too much hassle if you wind up in the overflow lot. I might rather drive to Hartford and use the long term parking there and get a connecting flight.
