After checking weather info, we went to the plane. We taxied by an American Fokker 100, United 737-200, and an ASA EMB-120. We checked out the instruments and the engines to make sure every thing is okay before we take off. During this, I was listining to the tower speak to the United jet. We waited next to the runway as an USAirways Beech 1900D took off. After that, we took off, and for a moment, it felt like we were being pushed by the wind. It was very bumpy as we flew away from Wichita. After passing El Dorado lake, the city was gone, and all I can see is farms. Later on, we were passing the city of Emporia and it is getting a lot more bumpier. I was starting to feel a little sick, but I was okay. My friend was getting very sick. He had the sic sac in his hand for the rest of the flight. By now, we switched to the Kansas City frequency and I was listening to a Southwest plane. I was also listening to a Continental plane, which I think was going to Salina. As we got near Topeka, I can see a bit of the city and we flew over a race track and we flew over the airport. We made a tight turn and made a bumpy landing on the runway in Topeka's Forbes Field.
After visiting a FBO and looking around the airport, we were hungry and wanted a bite to eat. We thought there would be something in the airport terminal. We went into the airport terminal, and nobody was there. I saw three counters. An old United counter which wasn't used anymore, and old TWA counter which also wasn't used, and an USAirways Express which was the only one used. It was closed for the day as the last flight to MCI left. The terminal was completely silent. Just some music being played on the speakers. There was no restaraunt. My "lunch" turned out to be a bag of crackers I got from a vending machine.
We got back into the Cessna after a break in the FBO. We went past the taxiways and only a few small planes were tied up there. After giving us permission to take off, the tower chat with us about our Cessna and the weather. He told us it wasn't a good day to fly to Wichita. We took off and climbed to around 3,500ft. After staying there for a few minutes, we decided to go up to about 4,500 ft. We passed Emporia and after that just saw a bunch of farms. It was much smoother this time, but still a bit bumpy. I saw El Dorado lake and we flew over the suburbs of Wichita, and I got a great view of the downtown buildings. We landed after flying for about an hour and fifteen minutes.
(BTW-I did not fly the plane. I was with a friend and his father flew the plane)
