I arrived at London City Airport at 16:30h and went directly to the check in. At this time of the day the airport was not busy and my check in has not taken more than 5 minutes. As expected, I was given my two boarding passes and my luggage dispatched to GRU. Although it was relatively quiet, the area in front of the check in counters was a bit messy. There were multiple small lines and people were jumping from one to another.
When I presented my RG Smiles card to collect the miles the guy was not able to recognize it and asked me which airline it belonged to. Additionally, he also asked me the first two letters of it. I never happened to me before!
The aircraft that would take me to Zurich, HB-IXG, arrived at LCY at 18:00h, which was only 30 minutes before the expected departure time. I had a chance to see it landing and must say that the pilot was not gentle at all during the douching down. The right side landing gear touched down first and suffered an above average pressure. It retracted for a while and the aircraft bent, recovering the right position a few seconds later.
The departure gate number was displayed at 18:11h, which was only 19 minutes before the expected departure time. However, it was not a problem at LCY, since the walking distance between the waiting lounge and the gates is insignificant; even if you have to walk to gate 9 (the further one), which was my case.
We were allowed to get into the boarding lounge at 18:15h and the aircraft was immediately in front of us. We started boarding at 18:23h, 18 minutes later than expected. Doors were closed at 18:32h and we took off at 18:50h. The 20 minutes delay was not explained but I assume it was mainly caused by local traffic.
The two flight attendants were at the doors welcoming the passengers with a very friendly smile. Speeches were given in English, German and Italian. The aircraft had leather seats and was perfectly clean when we boarded. In flight service was relatively good. A cheese sandwich and beverage were offered. Business class had some hot meal. Additionally, some chocolates were offered before our arrival. My general experience at this flight was very good.
Once we arrived at Zurich Airport we had to be deplaned in a remote area and then transferred by bus to terminal A. At this point some improvements could be done, since nobody was there to instruct transatlantic connecting passengers that they should go to terminal E, which was my case.

When I arrived at the gate E34 at 21:30h the aircraft was already there. The expected boarding time was 21:55h and we started boarding at 22:00h. Initially they were informing that the flight would be 10 minutes due to connecting passengers.
At 22:00h we started boarding, at 22:20h the doors were closed and at 22:35h we started taxing. We took off at 22:50h, which was 20 minutes later than expected. However we arrived in Sao Paulo on time.
It was my first flight in the A340 and I must say the airplane is very comfortable. In my opinion, it is better than the B777. Seats are relatively comfortable and I was in the aisle, seat number 34D. The airplane was not completely full and I had two seats to myself during the whole flight. On board entertainment was good and the external cameras were very nice.
During the beginning of the flight the crew was very friendly and the speeches were given in German, English, Spanish and something similar to Portuguese.
Once we started the flight the Capitan gave us details about our route to Sao Paulo. We were told we would be flying to Senegal, over Dakar, then we would cross the South Atlantic, flying over Recife, Salvador, Belo Horizonte and finally Sao Paulo. The Capitan spoke in different languages, including Portuguese.
50 minutes after taking off dinner was served. Initially hot towels for cleaning hands were given. The variety of food was ok. As usual, we could go for past or chicken. Additionally, we had a salad, small bread, a piece of cheese and a dessert. Only complain is that the main course portion was ridiculously small. Maybe it was enough to feed a cat.
Drinks were served twice during the dinner and during the night the crew offered water in different occasions. Based on my previous experiences with other airlines it was a good surprise. Two hours before our landing the crew started offering the breakfast. It had two slices of different cheeses, two small breads, juice, yogurt, coffee, etc.
My general experience with the whole flight and with the Swiss staff was very positive. I do recommend this airline to others and I will definitely fly with them again.

Nice report. I flew Swiss for the first time in August last year from LUX to LUG and I really liked there service and the comfortable ARJ. But I didn't now about there international service before, but after this report I think it is really an option instead of always going via FRA or MUC with LH.

While this might have looked a bit unprofessional to you - imagine it the other way around: if he doesn't know the card and he hadn't asked you but had just typed *something* into his computer, you wouldn't find the miles on your RG Smiles account.

Dj1986, I don't know where you use to fly to, but in South America they fly to Brazil and Chile and I think to 4 or 5 different destinations in North America.
As I said in my report, I liked their service very much.

Just after crediting the miles I realized that I did something silly. I should have not credited them in any card. I should wait and see how RG situation will develop. After all, we have up to 6 months to credit the miles.

It didn't seem unprofessional, but a little weird. A lack of trainning maybe.

I flew by swiss in May from VIE to ZRH in business class. It was quite comfortable.
And the swisslounge in ZRH are really impressiv. You are able to walk in 3 different Lounges and every lounge is like first altough there is no food.
