Hello guys,

Hvent dont that for a long time, but I was bored so I thought: why not doing another trip report, showing the work of a pilot during my flight to EDI/EGPH in scotland!
I was looking forward to meet Gkirk, but he was drunk so he couldnt come over  Wink

Flight number: LH4940
STD: 09:40 (UTC)
STA: 11:35 (UTC
Planned flight time: 1hr20mins
Distance according to flight plan: 608NM
Aircraft: D-ABXP of German Lufthansa

Ok, here we go!
I met with the captain about 70 minutes before our sceduled take off time!
We went through the papers and saw that the weather will be a bit weird up there in Scotland  thumbsdown ! Expected was only 13°C and wind: 240° with 15 knots gusting 25! Of course we expected runway 24 in EDI! Not good to land with that much tailwind  no !

We checked the NOTAMS, but nothing special for our flight.
So, we took 7 tons of fuel (I think it was near that, cannot remember for sure)!
We got the information that the aircraft was on approach to Frankfurt, so we took our stuff and went to the security check! Yes, we crews get checked like normal passenger!
We got the information that our cabin crew (3 ladies) will be waiting at the aircraft for us.
So we took our Crew bus which took us to position V152 in FRA! It's an apron position near the 'A' concourse of Terminal 1!

We arrived at the same time with D-ABXP! Our Cabin crew was waiting in another crew bus as well...

The aircraft stopped, engines cut, doors opened and passengers left the aircraft!
After the last passenger left the aircraft we went up the stairs and had a short chat with the incoming crew about technical status or some special things which we should know! But everything was just normal!

I put my bag next to my F/O seat and got into the seat. Putting the papers on the clipboard. Then of course opening the windows, because the APU wasnt running yet and it was pretty hot in FRA!
Then I checked the circuit breakers while the captain did the walkaround!
I did all my checks and preparations and feeded the FMC with all the data from the Fligth plan! We just expected 77 passengers, so we had a medium weight for take off!
Fueling finished, my preparations finished, captain back in the cockpit, cabin crew ready with their checks, so ready for passengers!

The bus arrived and they entered the aircraft from the front and the rear entry!

The captain did his last checks in the cockpit and then ordered the: "Cockpit check reduced checklist"! Thats the way it is called at LH! We read the list all the way to the end (of course)!
Then he did the departure briefing, where we were talking about which departure we are flying, the specials and of course what will happen if we have an engine failure after V1! And he did a Rejected take off briefing as well! For what kind of failures he will abort the take off or when he will continue!

Then, some vibration on the center pedestal! This must be the printer with the loadsheet  Wink
I booted my laptop and enterd all the data to the performance programm: Registration (D-ABXP), airport (FRA), temperature (25°C), wind (calm), air pressure (1015 HPa), flap configuration (optimum), bleed configuration (AUTO), engine anti- ice (OFF), runway and intersection (25R 'F'), runway condition (dry) and take off weight (51 tons)!
Then I hit enter! and here the results: thrust reduction 50° assumed temperature, flaps 5° take off, V1 143, Vr 146, V2 150, stop margin 726m, PTOW (performance liimited take off weight) 51.2 tons!

The captain entered this into the FMC and we were all set now!

We called ATC for the start up clearance and enroute clearance to EDI! We received it right away!

We started both engines and asked for taxi! We taxied to runway 25R, but we used full length instead of intersection 'F'!

CLEARED FOR TAKE OFF! Captain advanced throttles to about 40% then hit TOGA and the thrust increased to about 85% N1 and I said: "take off power set"! The 737 was accelerating. "80"! "GO" "ROTATE" and we lifted off into a blue sky with just some light clouds!

The climbout was uneventful and we climbed to FL340 which was our cruising flight level for that day!

We flew via CGN and Amsterdam over to Ottringham, then newcastle and then we got radar vectors for the ILS approach into EDI!

We got cleared down to 3000'. At this altitude the approach starts! Inbound course is 244° and the runway is only 2347m long and 46m in width! Enough for our 737!

We got cleared for the ILS approach and captain still had the autopilot do his work! My chance to take some pics! Here you can check them out:

And now during short final where the captain started to fly manually! so the last pic I could take:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/WILCO737/Edi004.jpg

We started to set the flaps and lowered the landing gear!

CLEARED TO LAND runway 24, wind 240° at 16 knots!

Less than we expected! the approach was still a bit rough, but the captain did a good job and landed the 737 smoothly!
We vacated the runway via taxiway 'B' and taxied to stand '1A'

Ground power connected, engines cut off... Welcome to EDI ladies and Gentlemen!

The Control tower of EDI:

Thats it! We took all our stuff, as well our suitcases and we were taken by the hotel bus to the hotel and had a nice day in Edinburgh!

I hope you enjoyed this trip report as much as I enjoyed the flight  Wink

Hi, WILCO737,
great to read about a flight from your point of view.
Interesting pics.
And especially from a LH employee, sometimes well known for their, sorry, arrogant behaviour, sure not in your case and also not on my last LH flights.
That will be a good thing to do a flight with an A.netter´s pilot!.
Regards,
Markus (FLIEGER67)

WILCO, it is really an interesting trip report. I really enjoyed reading it. Are you flying to Belgrade, too? If you do and if you have a day off here, I can show you the city.

Ouch, I thought it is only JAT employees who are arrogant.

Fascinating to read and great photos... doesn't Scotland have lovely countryside? Interesting hour-glass type control tower at EDI. I would have flown in when I went there, but I had a train pass so crossed the Forth Bridge you photographed instead...
