JFK - IST
TK 0002
June 7 2006

TK check at JFK. I came in to JFK on Jetblue and had a lot of time to take pictures around Terminal 1.

Diyarbakir TC-JDK

TK 0001 IST - JFK
June 11 2006
Time: 11:20
Seat: 34K
Gate: 218

After takeoff we got the best views of Istanbul. In this picture you can see Levent, Etiler, Bebek, and FSM bridge.

The shrimp was really good.

The IFE had 12 channels.
Classical Music
Jazz
World Music
Hitline
Latin Music
Portrait - Tina Turner
Oldies
Turkish Art Music
Turkish Pop
Portrait - Levent Yuksel
Channel 1 - Movie in English
Channel 2 - Movie in Turkish

JFK-IST the movies were Failure to Launch and Smile.
IST-JFK the movie was Firewall.
They showed the news and airshow and airobics during both flights.

The food was good. It was good last year when I last flew with TK. They give a good amount of food and drinks.

The crew is nice but usually unfriendly. The IST - JFK flight had a friendly crew which was a suprise to me. Once you talk to the crew they normally warm up to you. Overall the service is pretty good.

Everyone recived an amenity kit:

When the A340's are updated they will have ptv's like the new A330's.

Nice report! I have frequently seen TK A340's at JFK Terminal 1, and I have always wondered how the service was. The food on both flights looks really good!

I've flown DL72 JFK-IST in the back and from the pictures and cabin shots it's very clear I would have been much better off on TK. DL's food was the worst I ever had on an aircraft, crews were largely absent and the atmosphere was awful. The only excuse I can give was it was 11/3/01 and there was a high level of anxiety at the time. Still, there was no excuse for the awful service and even worse, literally, uneatable food. I've heard TK is a much better ride between JFK and IST, now I can see why.

I have wondered what DL was like on that route...I was also considering trying them once as a comparison to TK...but now I won't.
IST has really good security and flights to the U.S and Israel get extra security check on top of the standard checks.

TK is a pretty good airline they have been around since 1933 so I guess they have been doing things right. On domestic flights TK is also really good nice service and good food even on 45 minute flights.

Many years ago I had a Turkish friend who told me she was too scared to fly THY. However it seems that their safety record has improved. I think most accidents were on domestic flights.

Many thanks for sharing your photos - they do say a picture paints a thousand words. The cabin and food looked good, even if the amenity kit was rather feminine  Wink

I would like to try TK - they now fly 3 x weekly to/from AUH, so it might be worth trying them out sometime. I like their TV ads on CNN, too - 'Turkish Airlines - your magical gateway to the world'.

They have them on the A330's and the A340's will have them when they get the new cabin interiors.

Selam..

I guess your flew with TC-JDJ (Istanbul), the first A340 that joined the fleet.
Also it is my favourite, because I spent 12 hrs of my life in it in 1999 from NRT to IST  Smile

Can`t wait to fly with them with new cabin interiors and PTVs

Also I flew with TC-JDM (Izmir) on IST-NRT leg.

The departure time for Narita flight is around 17:130 and 18:00. So on my flight to Tokyo, after 2 hrs from take off I slept  Smile When I woke up, we were about to pass over Japan Sea. So I don't remember so many things. But the food was great and flight was very smooth. The fight was around 11 hrs.

On my flight from NRT-IST, I couldn't sleep even 1 minute. I've watched 3 movies and tried to enjoy the flight. But it is sometimes really boring to stay in an airplane non-stop 12 hrs.
The food and service were also good.

Yes, stay with TK unless you're flight up front, then DL is OK. By the way, DL had no amenity kits when I flew them, old tattered 767 seats you could hardly get comfortable with and only a continental breakfast, not full breakfast like TK prior to arrival. LOL, Yes, stay with TK, next time I fly to IST I'd like to try them myself.

I flew IST-JFK up front in biz last June and it was pretty poor by any standards. It was almost like a coach class service with wider seats. I think on this route i'd go with TK hands down. I prefer UAL because i can upgrade on them much easier with thousands of miles..
