This is my first trip report, so please be nice. If I am forgetting something please point it out. Sorry I didn’t take many pictures in flight. I typed most of this in flight to help keep the details fresh. Im not a big camera person in flight. I apologize if I ramble on or put too much information in this report. I am trying to make a some what intresting report for others to read without lacking information but then again not putting too much into it where its boring as hell.

July 5th,

I didn’t get much sleep last night, maybe one hour. I hit the road early thinking that there would be more traffic than there was. I got to the airport about 2 hours early. Lucky me I got an exit row on this flight, but the bad part is im in boarding zone 7, which meant I would most likely have no over head space to store both of my carry on so checked my roll a board. Security was a breeze for once here in ATL. I took the underground train to concourse A. Concourse A is undergoing some renovations here. I walked to gate a-24 where my 763 would be parking once arriving. Being that it is early to sit in the gate area with very little people there, I decided to go get me a nice Starbucks frap. I walked around for a while, not much to see with people crowding around each gate. I found a “relax and recharge” station that DL has in the concourse. While sitting there I heard CNN announce that Kenneth Lay from the Enron scandal died of a heart attack, lucky him huh is what the guy next to way. Guess if you know your going to be in a jail for a long time, that’s a way to go out. Anyways, once I was finished messing around on my laptop, I decided that I would go to Chick-fil-a and get some breakfast. But of course I should have got it earlier as they weren’t serving breakfast anymore, just my luck. So I just got a chicken sandwich to hold me over until I get to LAX. Noticing what time it was I had to make quick timing as the plane was supposed to board 30 mins before departure, which was close. By the time I got my food and headed back to the gate area to eat it, I noticed they were just calling zone 1. Being zone 7 I had plenty of time not to rush to eat, which was nice.

Waiting in the gate area was like a zoo, but that’s typical here in ATL. It seems most flights that head to the west coast seem to have people ready to sit on a plane for 4 hours. Must be something in the air? Once I boarded I handed the head flight attendant my fact sheet I made, which I saw in another trip report and thought Id give it a try. Upon giving the paper to the head flight attendant he asked me where I was sitting, and that was it.

Captain announced flight time to be aprox. 3:57 mins for our flight to LAX today. I didn’t notice the runway we took off from as I am on the left side of the plane. To my right was DL tech ops. (any idea on the runway?) We had about a 15 minute taxi to the run way. Once we lined up for take off we blasted down the runway using up most of it before lifting off into the gray ATL sky. Despite all of the cloud cover, takeoff was rather smooth. There was a nice vortex coming over the wing as we climbed. Our cursing alt was announce for 39,000 ft for this flight. The seat belt signed remained on for about 15-20 minutes after takeoff. I guess sitting in an exit row DL gives out free head phones? Yet I cant see the screen to my left without killing my neck, and the only other screen is in the front bulk head. There is a great deal of shoulder and leg room in this row and im 6ft tall with broad shoulders. This is my first trip to LAX not in F, but its not too bad.

There isn’t much of a view the window right now, mostly all I see is the wing, which is no big deal because of the cloud cover is really thick. About 30 minutes into the flight we hit some nice chop that got the captain to turn the seat belt sign back on and ask everyone to take a seat, but not the flight attendants. Looks like were flying though some rough storm cells right now. The radar looked awful for flying west this morning, but nothing that bothers me. Its interesting to look around during turbulence and see peoples reaction. The person to my left was looking at my like I was nuts to sit and type like nothing was going on, which to me it wasn’t. I’ve been in much worse turbulence than this. It was strong but nothing bad to me.

Almost an hour into the flight there has been no service at all, which doesn’t bother me one bit. Looks like the flight attendants are in the aft galley preparing the drink cart. One down fall to this seat is every damn person has to bump my elbow as they go by, yet there is enough room for a huge person to clear it with no problem. To pass the time so far I have had my ipod on since take off, yeah I know im not “supposed” to use it until 10,000 ft, but if this “interferes” with anything in flight deck then I guess were screwed. (bad attitude yeah I know) I always listen to the same song on take off for some reason it’s a great take off song. The words in it make you want to take off, strange yeah I know.

Drink and snack service finally started around 1:15pm. For the most part the flight attendants have a smile on their faces. During this service were receiving a drink and a snack box. Im sure its nothing that’s filling as im on DL in the back. Not that F meals on the LAX flights are any good. Like I suspected the snack box or what ever you want to call it contains: raisins, cheese spread, some kind of buttered mini bakes breads, and a cookie. Wow, id rather have had a bag of peanuts or pretzels, but I guess it is better than nothing.

Once the service had started, the movie was started on the main screens that look like they are from the early 1940’s, but better than nothing. Not that I can see it. The movie is called Take the lead, or something along that line. I have not one interest in the movie so im listening to my ipod instead. Coffee service is coming around about 15 minutes after the drink service finished in the main cabin. Only bad thing is we still have our trash from the drink service still. As normal on DL the coffee taste like it was brewed though cardboard. Not that its bother me, I have two tray tables to use, which is nice. My laptop on one, and my drinks and trash on the other one.

I must say, its rather amusing watching people try to open the lav doors. I have seen about 10 people sit there puzzled on how the door opens. Cheap entertainment for me. It would be nice to have airshow on to see where over America we are, but oh well, no luck. I cant wait for DL to upgrade to ptv’s for their 767 fleet, since that’s about all I fly is wide body DL from ATL. While reading though SKY magazine, I was noticing the devices that you can and can’t use on board, and I noticed satellite radio was on there. That makes no since to me since AirTran(look up code) has it on most of their fleet, and myself has used my MyFi XM radio on a few flights before. Anyone know why?

After the movie was over, almost 3 hours into the flight, another drink and snack service started. This time it was just one item from a snack basket which consisted of granola bar, peanuts, biscofe cookies, and chips. Not much of a view, still heavy cloud cover. Passed though some scattered storms during the flight but just a little chop. I was surprised looking at the window flying though some really dark skies without chop. So far the flight as been nothing but smooth. There is something playing on the screen now but I have not a clue what it is. Looks rather lame to me, maybe because im young? Im still watching people struggle with the lav door, that is still my IFE, so sad but very true.

Overall service wasn’t bad, but I have had better on 90% of my DL flights. Most of the time service had a smile especially if you were polite which some people aren’t. One thing lacking on service is picking up the trash from the service. It has been plenty of time between service to pick it up, not thing im complaining at all since im just using the other seat in front of me. So far almost the entire time I have had on my ipod as loud as it can go to block out the general cabin noise. There is a young child sitting across from me who has been very quite and behaved the whole flight, with a few noises here and there. Not that I have anything against children on flight, just when im grumpy as hell from lack of sleep. But thankfully he was sleeping or eating the whole time. I must say that kid made a big mess eating, sucks to have to clean that up after a 4 hour flight. It really sucks not having a shade on this window, but since its an exit row ill suffer in silence. I just put my sunglasses on to block the bright light.

Soon after we began our decent into Los Angeles. We didn’t make any hard banks or turn and went straight in for a speedy landing. (not sure which run way sorry.) The flight crew was awesome. Having misplaced the fact sheet I gave them for my records they printed out one for me from the printer. Great guys to take time even after landing to get it for me. Over all service was fine. Smooth flight for the most part. Thanks for reading my report. I will be heading back to ATL on the 8th. I will add pictures to the report then.

Nice report - thanks for writing!

One thing I like about the 763 though, is all the overhead space. Almost double the space of a 737/757 but only one extra person in each row.

decided that I would go to Chick-fil-a and get some breakfast

Always my favorite stop at ATL - oh how I wish they had these in the Pacific Northwest.

"Cheap entertainment" -- nice description.

Enjoyable report.

By the way, how did you like flight attendant's new uniforms?

I like the old ones better, but change is always welcome.

Good job with the tr. Even though three out of your five pice were blurry, I still liked them. No need to worry about what details you put in to the report, cause it was enough to keep me reading to the end. Good luck with your next tr.
