Off to the homeland!

In high school I went on an EF tour all through Europe and evers since I get ads in the mail to go on more trips with EF. So I finally did. I went on their 11 day Greek Isle College Break tour.

I decided to chose the land only package so I could choose my flight and make sure I get frequent flier miles since if I let EF do it I would probably end up on LH (AHHHH) also, by doing the land only package I saved $200, but that will come back to bite me in the butt later....

May 25th
DTW-CDG
AF flight 273
Equipment A332
Seat 26K
Depart at 1900

After taking nearly 2 hours to get to the airport due to when it usually takes 20 minutes I finally made it the boarding area thinking for sure the flight would be delayed due to weather since there were tornadoes in the area and the skies were BLACK. But we left on time...I did get a few sort of good pictures as were rotating down the runway of the sky...

After we were airborne and leveled off the meal service began, they passed out little menus of what would be served and passed out the ammenities kit which consisted of eyeshades, earphones, ear plugs and a moist towelette.

The meal choices were fish and some other meat....I chose the fish...I havent had fish in a long long time....here is a pic, it was a real tasty meal on the way down anyways....

I liked the IFE on the 332. Lots of games and quizes about aviation and decent selection of movies. I watched Brokeback Mountain.

The crew was very nice and looked very professional. There was one hot Flight Attendant that looked just like Remy Delaine, and if you know who Remy Delaine is, then you are fabulous Wink

So yeah somewhere over the Atlantic while everyone was sleeping I decided to go into the lav and vomit.
The lav was just a few rows behind me otherwise I dont think I would of made it. There went all the fish and everything else I ate into the toilet. I was feeling sort of sick all day and I guess the fish did it. I rang the Flight Attendant call button and in a few moments an FA showed up, I told her I vomited but she didnt understand then I said I got sick and still didnt understand so I had to break out my french and I should of in the first place but I was still feeling a bit sick and told her J'ai vomi and lifted up the toilet seat and showed her my puke. she said oOOOOOH be right back...she came back with a glass of water and toothbrush for me, how kind, I guess thats the only way to get a toothbrush on flights these days. She then cleaned up the toilet and said thank you for calling because most times people just leave it.

on our descent into CDG I started feeling sick again, luckily I didnt get sick.

Upon arrival I was rushed into a van with everyone else that was going to ATH because we only had an hour layover time and stuff at CDG is a mess. So after running around the airport and nearly dying because I felt so sick we made it to the gate to find out the flight was delayed. So I laid down in the gate area on the floor. i didnt care i was almost dead. People were walking all around me but didnt bother me at all.

Finally we boarded
I dont remember the flight number I know it was an AF A321 and I was in seat 19A I slept most of the flight, the meal looked literally like shit and I didnt eat anything just drank the soda. Upon arrival to ATH I retrieved my luggage promptly and met my tour group.

Greece was absolutely beautiful. I have lots of pics I'll show a couple one is of the sunset on the island of Mykonos and the other is a picture from our hotel balcony in Athens of the Acropolis.

So it comes time to leave, everyone in the tour group except 3 other people were leaving on the 4th of June but I was sure I left on June 5th. WRONG

I get to the airport that monday morning to find out I actually left on the 4th So i missed my flight. I had to pay a $200 change fee to get on the June 5th flight. So much for saving $200 dollars for booking my own air travel.

There was a big tour group of a bunch of old complaining people from the Grand Rapids, Mi area and I just figured I would be stuck with them on the flight back to DTW, but luckily they were flying into CVG then to GRR with DL

The flight from ATH to CDG was nice, a tasty breakfast was served, yogourt, cheese, and a pastry. there was also a tasty young F/A that looked to be in his early 20s.

CDG is an absolute mess

I had to nearly walk 43543253 miles to get to my connecting gate and for some reason went into an asthma attack and had to take a hit off my inhaler while on the bus to the plane stand....now im not an out of shape person I weigh 115lbs/ 52kgs

The flight back to DTW AF 374 on an 332 was very delightful. Great friendly crew and I spoke all french to them, made me feel special lol

I sat next to a Romainian girl about 22 that was heading to LAS to work at a casino for the summer. I guess it's a popular program because she said there were quite a few girls from Romainia going to LAS to work in casinos. This was her second time flying, the first time was from Romainia to CDG the flight before this. She was a bit nervous but I was there to help her through it. She was real friendly and we talked quite a bit. I helped her fill out her Customs and Immigration forms. And it was a sad parting once we got to DTW as I went into the customs lane and she went to the immigration lane we hugged and said have a nice life basically. It was sweet.

on the way back i watch the last holiday with queen latifa....isnt a movie i'd go to the theater and watch or rent, but none the less it was a very good movie Smile

made it back to DTW in one piece and no puking.

All in all AF is a great airline and wonderful service, too bad CDG is a mess

I always travel with Alka Seltzer. It is a real miracle cure though that can make one sick but it gives relief afterwards.

Nice report! Wow, the dinner on Air France looks great! I wish every Economy meal was like that! I actually saw an AF A332 at DTW when I passed through that airport in mid-June. Looking forward to more reports!

Well, British Airways gives you a toothbrush in all classes on long haul  Smile

Greece is a wonderful place. I've been there twice, both on vacation, and both on the Island of Crete. I highly recommend it! Theres nothing like it anywhere.
Thanks for the trip report!

Very nice TR, Zach.

Sorry to read that you were sick on the flight ... AF does have a very nice IFE system, although I am not familiar with the 332. Instead of "Brokeback Mountain", I watched Woody Allen's "Match Point" while having dinner.

Thanks for the pix of DTW. Makes me somewhat homesick.

EF is the name of the tour company, EF Educational Tours. I took an EF tour in June to France and it was great. I have a trip report of our journey over, United & Bmi: MSP-ORD-LHR-NCE.

Great report Zach -- I hope you enjoyed your EF tour as much as I enjoyed mine!

I avoid CDG as much as possible, it's such a mess when transiting. Funny when I see AF with connections of 45 minutes in CDG.

Good report Zach, thanks

Nice report. Nice pictures. I'm a big fan of AF. I choose them over every US airline when I fly back to the States. The A330 is my favorite plane. Can't really explain why, I just like it.

Hope you have better luck next time you travel. Travelling when you're ill is nooooooo fun at all.

Cheers.

If Air France are hiring FAs who look like Remy Delaine, its all the more reason to fly them.

Especially since Northwest hire FAs who look (and act) like Tony Soprano's Mom.

HAHA. Lydia? She was a babe.  Wink

Great report. I've had the displeasure of flying LH on a school trip to Germany. They weren't horrible, but I would've preferred to have tried a different European airline. AF sounds fantastic, CDG facilities aside. Maybe I'll try them someday.
