Time for another trip out to see my friends in Minnesota. Because NW has a whopping 2 flights per day out of SJC, a 630AM and Noonish, I thought I'd get a jump on my trip and take a red-eye out of SFO. I booked my flight back in June and the day finally arrived. Inciedently, this would be my first time flying NWA and with the current status of the contract talks, I was a bit nervous about this, but all in all it seemed ok. My thoughts are in my report.

Depart 12:40AM Ontime
Arrive 6:00AM Ontime
A/C 757-200, no windows at Gate 47 to see the a/c or the N#
Seat - Originally booked 37A, I changed to 25F but NW Changed to 19A (blahh seat)
My friend dropped me off at the airport around 10 after having dinner at a Red Lobster. Walked up to the self-check in kiosk and checked my bag (lucked out as my bag weight 53 pounds and was't charged) and reprinted my boarding pass and noticed I had a different seat assignment as on my boarding pass I printed at home. So I figured I'd ask the gate agent before the flight boarded what was up. Spent 5 minutes in security and went to the gate area and went online and checked seatguru an noticed that 19A had no window. I was like WTF, this has got to be changed. Then knowing it was a red-eye I took myself to the bar and had a little put me to sleep drink. After that, went back to the gate area where the agent called me to the podium to make sure that I had the correct seat assignment in which I asked about the seat - she said, "oh we have a different configured aircraft, you have a window seat - wasn't sure to belive her or not, and I shouldn't have." Boarding was callled at 12:00 in a "all aboard" style and a mad rush to the jetway began. When I got to my seat guess what - now Window. F*ck.
And to make matters worse, there was a woman with a lap child in the middle seat. There was a middle seat open in the bulk head but someone else already beat me to it. We pused back on time and took off 1L. Once drink service started it was time for another ensure I sleep beverage which worked and slept until the engines idled down for decent. Thank god the kid only cried once briefly during the flight, and I observed there were several small children on this flight - who brings kids on redeye?
Touchdown was 30L and a long taxi to F19. The flight was continuing on to MKE but with a different aircraft. Made the long trek to baggage claim and proceeded to have a great weekend in Minneapolis. My friend lives in Minnehaha pkwy, when they are landing on the 12's they flight low over his house and when taking off the 30's they make their departure turns just about over his house. Activities included biking to Lake Harriet and Calhoun, the falls, the Mall of America (love that no sales tax on clothes) and a few bars and clubs, and the like. Sadly though, it was time for the fun to end...

Depart 9:00PM Actual 9:10PM
Arrive 10:53PM Actual 10:55PM
A/C A320 (I believe it was N113US)
My friends dropped me off at the airport about 7:30ish and went to the online check in to do my bag. I guess I went slightly overboard on the shopping as my bag now weighed 62 pounds - no free ride here and I had to pony up $25 (sort of negates the tax thing huh?). Breezed through security and it was nice having my gate right there. Was a bit hungry and went to the California Pizza Kitchen and ran into a person in our office who was on the same flight. I ate half my pizza and saved the other half for a mid flight snack. Boarding was called about 8:40 in the same fashion as the SFO flight. Got on and just kind of relaxed until after take off and popped in a movie had the rest of my pizza and sort of dozed off and were starting our approach just north of Fresno. Approach was pretty typical though we made our turn to final a bit more north than normal (over Anderson Resivor as apposed to Gilroy) and a very far touch down on 30L (he missed the Juliet and Kilo taxiways and finally turned off on Lima which is north of Terminal A). Got to the gate and had to wait about 5-6 minutes for someone to bring a set of airstairs over to C5 (no jetways in Terminal C) and went to the pandimonium of SJC's Terminal C baggage claim where it took about 1/2 hour for my bag to finally be off loaded.
All in all Northwest was adequte in terms of service and no major complaints.
