Monday, August 21st was a very clear, and sunny day in Minnesota. I arrived at MSP around 8:00am for my 10:35am flight, and found lots of people in line for check-in.

Today, my flight would be:

Northwest Airlines #1268
MSP-LGA
A319
Seat 20A
Sched (10:35am-2:16pm) Actual (10:35am-2:05pm)
100% Full in F & Y.

I finally got my ticket, and my seat #20A, and began my walk to security. The line was not too long, and in fact the line to check-in at the First Class counters was much longer. I did not have much in my bag, so I passed through security very quickly.

One of the things I like the most about MSP is the atrium past security. When walking down the atrium, you don't feel as though you're in an airport, but in fact in some shopping mall. There are some nice plants and christmas lights, lots of interesting stores, and food shops.

My flight to LGA would be leaving out of gate F-14, so I began my walk down the F concourse. Wow, it was busy! There were flights leaving for San Jose, Sacremento, San Francisco, Seattle, Kansas City, Fargo, Detroit, and Honolulu.

Here's a view I took as I walked down the F- Concourse:
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h203/cessna55057/IMG_1091.jpg

I bought something to eat, and finally arrived at F-14. The A319 was already at the gate, and was being catered at the rear door. Hmm, I wonder what's for lunch...

At around 10:05am, the boarding process began. The flight was totally full, and a gate agent soon announced that no upgrades would be processed as First Class "was checked in full."

I walked down the jetway after the first "all rows can board" call was made, and walked inside the new A319. I really find the A319/A320 to be pretty comfortable, for there is a much more open feeling inside the cabin.

Here's a view from #20A:
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h203/cessna55057/IMG_1093.jpg

At around 10:30am, the door closed and we began to push from the gate. An American S80 moved past us, as we began to move backwards.

The taxi to the runway was pretty short, and luckily we did not have to wait for anyone else before takeoff.

The takeoff was quick, and soon we lifted off into the clear sky.

The visibility was amazing! Here are some views after takeoff:

I-35 is the big road in this picture.

Minneapolis, MN:

After climbing up to 37,000 feet, we turned east and began to fly over Wisconsin. Within about 20 minutes, the beverage service began and I got a $3 snack box and some water.

We crossed over Lake Michigan a little bit north of Milwaukee, and then began to fly further south east as we came across the coast into Michigan.

View of Muskegon, MI:
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h203/cessna55057/IMG_1096.jpg

I spent the rest of the flight reading and looking out the window. At around 1:30pm EST, the captain came on to tell us that we would be arriving about 15 minutes early into LGA!

Here's a view as we started our descent. Does anyone know where this is?
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h203/cessna55057/IMG_1099.jpg

Another view:

We descended gradually down and after about 25 minutes, I could spot NYC way off in the distance.

Here's a view of Newark Liberty EWR:
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h203/cessna55057/IMG_1103.jpg

The visibility was so good that I took a lot of pictures!
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h203/cessna55057/IMG_1105.jpg

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h203/cessna55057/IMG_1106.jpg

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h203/cessna55057/IMG_1107.jpg

The flight attendants came through the aisle one more time, and then we came down for landing into LGA. It was pretty windy and bumpy on the arrival, and I could sense the pilots were using lots of rudder to line us up for runway 31.

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h203/cessna55057/IMG_1108.jpg

The landing was incredibly smooth, and soon we slowed and pulled off the runway near this United 757-200.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h203/cessna55057/IMG_1110.jpg

During the taxi, I spotted an American S80 landing and a US Airways EMB-145 getting ready to depart. I have not seen any US EMB-145's in the new livery, does anyone know if US Airways plans to repaint these aircraft?

We finally came to a stop at Gate 7 at the Delta/Northwest Terminal.

All in all, a very good flight!

Comments & Suggestions are welcome!

I wish UA flew mainline to MYR, that way you wouldn't be stuck in a smelly Saturn for 12 hours.

Thanks for your comment! In the $3 snack box there was a summer sausage, some crackers, fruit and nut mix, and some spreadable cheese. The snack was alright.

Great trip report,

From your pictures, it looks like you took the expressway approach into LGA. It's probably my favorite approach because you can see planes about to land from my office at Liberty street.

Great report and Excellant pics of Minneapolis and NYC. I have a questuion for you. I lived in Minneapolis 40, YES 40 years ago and back then the foshay tower was tallest building in minneapolis. i wonder if it is even around anymore. There was an observation deck on top and belive it or not it was free to go up there. I was there before the Nicollet mall downtown, they were just constructing I-35 and Mary Tyler Moore hadn,t even got there yet lol. Your pics bring back great memories; I see that big bridge across the mississippi is still there. I walked over that quite a few times.

Thanks for your comment! Yes, the Foshay building is still around; I believe Wells Fargo now uses the building.

hey. after studying your pics of Minneapolis some more I think I found the Foshay Tower . Boy does it look small now;and to think it was once the tallest building in town. How things do change. I also think I saw my old residence at Franklin and Park Ave.Itwas across form a small park. and I think the park is still there. What a suprise with all the redevelopment and the construction of the freeways. They had just started on them when I lived in town. Thanks again for the magnificent pics of Minneapolis.

Nice report and pics - certainly was a nice day to be flying.

I'm in MSP right now actually - flew in on a NW B757-300 this afternoon from LAX, and am heading down to MEM on a DC9 in the morning. I went to the Mall of America outside the airport today - what a mall! I digress...

Many thanks for sharing once again.

Great pictures! I keep hoping someone will post some pics from a trip TO msp from the east coast (like LGA - MSP) because they usually fly over my home in Green Bay, WI - I see the contrails all the time. Eastbound flights like you said fly a little further south, closer to Milwaukee.

Thanks for your comment! Yeah, I think most flights from LGA-MSP fly a little further south, but a flight like JFK-LAX flies further north. I'll be flying back to Minnesota on Monday, I'll try to take some photos of Green Bay if we do fly over it.
