This is my first trip report!

I hadn't flown in a long while, and I had the itch to fly again. So I decided to find a cheap flight, and fly the round trip in one day. I found a round trip flight on WN for about $130, so I booked it and looked forward to flying again.

TPA-MDW

Flight 447
Depart Tampa Bay(TPA) at 08:05 AM
Arrive in Chicago Midway(MDW) at 09:50 AM
Boeing 737-700
April 19th, 2006

I checked in online and printed the boarding passes the day before my flight. I was given A boarding passes for both flights! The day of my flight, I woke up early so I could browse a.net and get a few last minute things together before heading off to the airport.

After the short ride to the airport, I showed my boarding pass and ID and got onto the tram to airside C. At the terminal, I was greeted by a rather long security line. Fortunately, it it was moving quickly. About halfway through the line, the TSA was asking for ID again. I reached in my wallet for my ID only to find that it wasn't there! I searched frantically through everything I was carrying, but to no avail. I wasn't quite sure what to do, so I slipped out of the line and told a TSA worker about my dilemma. He told me to get back on the tram and ask at the last place that I showed my ID to see if I dropped it there. I did just that, and they didn't have it. They asked me how old I was, and since I was under 18, they told me that I didn't need it. I went back to the terminal feeling quite relieved, and the same worker that I told about my ID let me skip the whole line and go right through security.

Once I was safely in the secure zone, I got a newspaper and settled down at my gate. I watched the early morning departure rush as I waited for my flight to board. The highlights being a DL 763 taxiing by, a FX A300 taking off and a US A319 in Star Alliance colors departing. By that time, the "herd" had started to form, so I joined it and waited for the official boarding call. When it came, I was very excited as I hadn't been on a plane in nearly a year. D70 in hand, I walked down the aisle looking for a seat. I wanted one that was on the left side so I would have good lighting, just behind the wing so I could get a good view of the flaps on landing, and that had a clean window. I ended up sitting in seat 18A. After the usual safety demonstration, we were on our way! Our plane was behind a few others waiting for takeoff. After an FL 717 and a NW 753 had taken off, we positioned on 36R. Takeoff was smooth and powerful, and we were soon in the air.

There's not too much to say about the cruise or descent, but here's a few photos:

Does anyone know what airport this is?

After a firm touchdown we taxied to the gate. I asked if I could see the cockpit, and was granted access. I snapped a few photos before continuing into the terminal.

I had a two hour layover before my next flight, so I walked around the terminal to see what was sitting at the gate. I saw N202WN parked at gate A17 with a couple of firetrucks behind it. Does anyone have any info as to why?

I also saw a TZ 737-300 for the first time. After walking around the whole terminal, I got lunch at McDonald's and watched the takeoffs and landings. I managed to catch a glimpse of California One rolling out, but wasn't able to get a shot of it because I was eating. One of the Shamus also went by, but it parked at the only gate in the terminal that didn't have a window.

MDW-OMA
Flight 405
Depart Chicago Midway(MDW) at 11:40 AM
arrive in Omaha(OMA) at 01:05 PM
Boeing 737-300
April 19th, 2006

This was a short, but very fun flight. It was probably my favorite of the day. I again sat in seat 18A. The flight started out with a great view of the gates on climb-out (where I finally got a shot of California One and Shamu), followed by a sharp turn that gave an excellent overview of MDW.

As we reached our cruising altitude of 36,000 feet we ran into a lot of turbulence. The whole flight was very, very bumpy, which I thoroughly enjoyed! It made it hard to get clear pictures though. Descending into a hazy OMA, the only thing I saw was field after empty field.

The turbulence was even worse on approach, and just as we were about to touch down the pilot added what seemed like a good deal of power. I thought for a moment that we were going around, but that idea was dispelled when we slammed down onto the pavement. We braked very heavily, turned off to the right and headed for the gate.

Again, I asked to see the cockpit, and again I got access.

After snapping a few pictures, I headed into the terminal. I was greeted with a construction barrier that covered the whole center of the building. Walking around the terminal, the only planes at the gate were the WN 733 that I had just flown, a UA A320, and an HP CRJ. My plane and the UA 'bus soon left, leaving only a CRJ at the gates. I checked in for my return leg, and got a B boarding pass for the trip to MDW and a C pass for the flight to TPA. I'll write a report about it when I get around to it  Silly I hope you enjoyed my report, and thanks for reading!

From the way it's configured, I'm guessing BVL ( I think thats the code) for Mid-America Airport/ Scott Airforce Base right outside of St.Louis

haha ya it is BLV.

It does look alot like LIT however BLV doesn't have a huge terminal like LIT does, which you can see from the air, and also the routing of TPA-MDW would not take them that far west over LIT.

Good trip report, I liked the pics. Is there any particular reason that you chose OMA as your destination for a day trip? Also, how was the service on your flights? Many A.netters would like to hear if you were offered "the whole can" of soda.

As for why the fire trucks were called out to N202WN at MDW, I have no idea. As this took place back in April I wouldn't be able to find out.

I didn't really care where I flew, I was looking more at price than destination. I wanted somewhere far enough that it would take the whole day, and I wanted to have a connection each way. OMA was as far as I could go for as cheap as I could find.

It was back in April when I flew, so I'm not exactly sure on the service or drinks. On at least one of the flights, I got the whole can. On the others I think I just got a second glass. Service was good, but nothing about it really stood out. I had Sprite to drink, and the snack was some sort of a fruit bar on the TPA-MDW flight, and peanuts on the MDW-OMA flight. Sorry I don't have more details, I'll make sure to take notes on my next flight! I'll be flying TPA-MDW-DTW-BNA-TPA in a few weeks. The round trip fare to Detroit including taxes was only $116 USD!  bigthumbsup
