PART 2

We were to take the train to Jamaica, where we would connect with the Subway into New York City. But the train were every hour on saturdays and we had just missed one by about 5 minutes. So we went to brief walk around the surrounding area, and as we were both feeling hungry we went to a store. In this store, I attempted to buy cigarettes as I was running low. The guy behind the counter wasn't going to sell them to me at first as he didnt believe I was of legal age to smoke, and I am 28 years old!! I thought this was quite amusing, yet at the same time, rather insulting! I asked him if he was joking, to which he replied "No sir!" - He asked me my age, and I said to him that I am 28, and he said "Oh I'm sorry!", with a rather embarrassed look on his face! He sold me my cigarettes! We then headed back to the train station, after Yirina had brought about 38 bottles of various flavoured Coke! (Damn, she loves the stuff!)

We then boarded our train and after a few minutes we departed off to Jamaica. We changed over there and caught the subway into the City.

We got off the subway at Lexington Ave/53rd St and begun our sightseeing of NYC.

Those are terrific pics! It makes me even more excited for my first trip to New York this December/January on CO MSP-EWR-MSP with my best friend. It will also be my first time flying with a companion other than my parents, my first flight on a 735, and my first flight on an ERJ. I can't wait! Thanks for sharing these pics with us.

From what I see that is a Pepsi and not a Coke. There is a huge difference in that Coke doesn't suck.  Wink

I drink both, Pepsi and CC and love them the same ...
btw, I call "coke" both of them, Pepsi or Coca Cola...because in my native language we say simply: Pepsi Cola or Coca Cola...So "cokes" are both for me...But I think in english there is a word "coke" only for CC used...

You crazy Europeans. In the US we are only allowed to love one or the other.  Wink

Quoting Yirina77 (Reply 6):

Kind of like the way us Southerners refer to everything but Pepsi as Coke. I could be drinking a Sprite and when someone asked me what I was drinking I would say Coke. We call Pepsi by its name or more accurately....crap.

Quoting Yirina77 (Reply 6):

You are correct.

Just giving you all a hard time. Glad you had fun in the States.

Hehe, but in the US and UK you have a chance to choose your flavour...we poor people living in middle and eastern Europe have just common varieties of Pepsi and CC, so don´t be surprise when I see some Vanilla, Lime or Cherry Pepsi or CC, I don´t make any differents  Silly

Great pictures! I took almost the same picture of the 2 glass buildings in Columbus Circle about 2 weeks ago. Looks like you had some nice weather in NYC!

Looks that way. Were you guys in town around the time Dubya spoke at the UN? It would make sense then otherwise who knows what they were up to at that point.

Yes. There was also a USAF bizarre shaped thing flying above NYC as we walked through Central Park...

That would be the B-2 stealth bomber, IIRC.

And, why did you take the subway from Jamaica, when you could have just taken the LIRR straight into Penn Station (34th street).

By the way, what you saw was only a snippet of NYC.

Because we wanted to go on the subway.

We saw more than enough to satisfy ourselves, bearing in mind we was only in NYC for 1 full day.

More funky pics there Chris! Yirina really loves her coke eh!

Can't believe you nearly got refused being served cigs at 28! Ha and I thought nearly getting refused a drink in Uxbridge for looking 18ish was bad.

As Firstclasser says it was a B-2 Spirit bomber. Not sure what help they would provide as they are a strategic bomber and not a tactical fighter. Unless of course they were on station to carpet bomb the UN after Dubya left I have no idea why they would have been circling the city.

They may have gotten into trouble in the past for underage selling. There is a town here in the Atlanta area that IDs everyone for alcohol regardless of age. My grandmother is 83 years old and they even card here. It's a zero thought thing in the name of "protecting" kids from the vices of society. Of course they'll find ways to get the smokes or booze so it's a wasted effort in the end but that is another debate.
