after the 6 hr flight up here and another 6 hrs to spare before my flight home I decided to head over to the general aviation area and lake hood. there's a museum there and a small seaplane company called Rusts'. for $90 i could go on a scenic 40min tour around the mtns. i decided to go since I'm only paying $45 rt standby on NW. well i think it was the best $90 i ever spent. this was my first seaplane ride. that there was almost worth the $$ but the scenery was amazing! these pics are good, but you really have to be there to experience this!!!

ANC-MSP
Monday aug 6.
after my scenic trip a had dinner and made my way back to the airport for my flight home. I checked in to find that this flight was full and there was a possibility i wont make standby tonight. I went thru to gate B10. N583NW, a 753, was waiting for us all to board. I checked with a gate agent who said that i will most likely get on tonight. and i did. I got a window seat too, in the back section of the 753 42-A. ahh this was nice. but the the couple sitting next to me had there 1yr old on their laps. this was a bit of an inconvence because i like to get up during a flight. but i didn't want to disturb the baby which slept across its parents laps the whole way to MSP. at least it wasn't crying! i had my i-pod and a window, once again, that's really all i need to be happy.

the new terminal at ANC, either north or south, i forget.

the flight departed around 10pm ANC time and arrived the next morning at MSP just before 6 am. overall it was good, the F/As came aound with their service after takeoff, not to be seen again after, ohh they did offer water a couple of times. I fell into a light sleep the second half of the flight and before i knew it we were decending into MSP. I was gone for exactly 24hrs. only an A.netter would be crazy enough to travel so far for such a short time!

Nice report, and cool pics. How are the loads on the flights up to ANC on NW? I know I can not non-rev up there on UA to save my life, though I have wanted to get up there for years. (I just got to get motivated). For sure when I do get up there I will for sure go on a scenic plane ride!  smile

Ryan

I wish UA flew mainline to MYR, that way you wouldn't be stuck in a smelly Saturn for 12 hours.

All the fights to form ANC around this time were about 90% full. some fuller than others. so it was a bit tight for standby.

Nice pictures and report, expecially the seaplane.

My first experience of seaplane flying was also on a cessna 206.

Awsome report! Yours also Ryan, which I saw when you first postet it.

Is i legal to let the rope gang from the wing like that? I woud assume that is the rope you use to tie the aircraft to the dock.

It is the south terminal that is new. The north one serves DL, charter flights and intl arrivals.
Glad you enjoyed the float plane ride, I grew up less than a mile from Lake Hood and used to swim in it all the time as a kid. I think they shut down the swimming area a few years back because of the fuel and pollutants in the water after so many years of service.

That appears to be a nice sized bull moose you got a sight of.

That sounds like a rash waiting to happen.

Wonderful report and pics. One question, was there much turbulence flying in a small plane so close to those mtns? I would probably get airsick in a small plane like that lol.

too bad most of us get too soon old and too late smart
