After the arrival at AGT, we ad to cross the border to go to Brazil.
My advice, try it on Sunday or it might take three hours queue, last solution
give a 20 usd tip at some guy around the border...
this is what we did...

The tropical hotel is quite nice from outside, but the rooms are old and the prices are high: you pay the price of the only hotel in the middle of the Park and across the falls.

Now back to the main topic, return trip to ASU.

Route Part 4: AGT-ASU Asuncion, Silvio Pettirossi
Flight Number: PZ707
Aircraft: Fokker 100
Registration: PT-?
Distance: 220 miles
Seat: 4C economy class (single class)
Duration: 0h40
Date: Saturday 22 th October 2006
Departure time: 0h40
Load factor: 80%

It is really great to check in in a small airport, no queue, a quick check-in but also a broken X-ray machine ! -only one in the airport ! so it was a quick manual control of the bags, believe Me very quick

The plane arrived on time from EZE.

A cool walking boarding to the plane. around 20 passenger boarded here.

Again a front shot of the white cargo 747/200 parked at AGT

A quick take off, really a very low noise at the row 4. The FA were really very nice a friendly, quite young. But still no drink on this small trip.

Very nice view from the small AGT airport

Arriving in ASU, crossing the river Paraguay, Argentinian side.

A very smooth landing again, quickly to the gate a disembarking.

The weather was great in Asuncion, between 32 and 35°c, so it was time to go a golf game with a caddy for every one.

Enough fun and work time to go back to Europe, with a night in Buenos Aires in between.

Route Part 5: ASU-EZE
Flight Number: PZ704
Aircraft: Fokker 100
Registration: PT-?
Distance: 1000 miles
Seat: 14A economy class (single class)
Duration: 2h20
Date: Saturday 24 th October 2006
Departure time: 12h00
Load factor: 70%

The recommendation was to arrive two hours before departure, but it seemed a lot for us, so we arrived one hour and a half, that was enough ! Six TAM check-in counters were opened for around three flights departing to Santiago, Buenos Aires and Santa-Cruz, all Fokker 100 in one hour time.
So, the check-in was very quick and after paying the traditional airport tax (25 usd for international flights ! 4 usd for national), we reached the waiting zone.

ASU-EZE borading card, the same seat as on the way in !

The waiting aera for the for boarding gates (4 gates) has duty free shop, a bar and some souvenir shops. There is also a small TAM bar serving very good coffees and other beverages for free. Funny was also the traditionnal music player:
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q133/marcus380/IMG_1230Large.jpg

Since the plane was late this time, I discussed with local TAM agent, he explained that after the 15/12 the flights ASU-EZE and ASU-GRU would be served by Airbus A320 and A319. There will be a test period and if the load factor is good enough they will confirm the Airbus on these routes.

However again the FA were very nice friendly and good looking. I went in teh rear to take a pic. I could again measure the noise diefference between the front and the rear.

We landed smoothly and reached quickly our gate, our delay was reduced to twenty minutes.
The immigration control was quick so was our luggage delivery.
I tried to get some cash in USD at the cash dispenser but it was only able to give me local Pesos (around 1usd for three pesos) the cab to the city centre costed 55 pesos.

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q133/marcus380/IMG_1260Large.jpg
Our Fokker 100 at the gate.

The car too the city centre took 45 minutes. I had no time to take a picture but I saw on the right leaving the airport the Aerolineas Argentinas maintenance zone with really many aircrafts. Certainly some were not in maintenance any more.

A nice evening in Rucoleta area, a last good steak and a good night in a fantastic hotel , I recommend, the Caesar Park hotel. I got un upgrade in the room to a suite with about 120 sqm2...

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q133/marcus380/IMG_1276Large.jpg
Nice Jacuzzi in the bathroom...

We hired the Hotel limo to bring us to the airport. We arrived early because we met some people from AF-Cargo. They confirmed us that after the 1st of November the CDG-ASU flight would stop in EZE. Santiago would be served directly 5 times a week from CDG with a 777/200 ER - 14h00 flight, the longest non-stop in the AF network. This would be good for the cargo business.

Route part 6: Paris EZE-CDG
Airline: Air France
Flight number: AF417
Aircraft: Boeing 777/200ER
Registration: F-GSPT
Distance: 6 078 miles
Seat: 4F (Business Class, old seats)
Duration: 12h30
Date: Wednesday 25th October 2006
Departure time: 17h20
Load factor: 85%

I made a detax on some products, got right away the cash back which I changed in Euros. The we went to the small AF Lounge with was managed by another company, therefore we did not even have real chapaign but only some kind of sparkling wine branded "Chandon".

We were able to have two seats in row 4, which is the first in Bizz class. We tried to get an upgrade to first due to our AF cargo business but since the plane was not full and overbooked it was not possible: no "mechanical" upgrades scheduled.

My boarding card worth 10 338 Flying Blue miles...

The detail of the crew, many languages but poor graphic wrighting ability !

We boarded almost as the last pax, I noticed that unusually on this route the plane was not full. The first class had 4 seats free. I noticed that some crew friends were in "last minute" upgraded to bizzz. However the bizz class was not full either.

My seat in the middle, I would have preferred the window but according to seatguru.com this part is very quiet.

We left the parking with 15 minutes delay, but no worry on such a long trip to catch up during flight. As usual our coats were quickmy hanged up.
The crew was composed of more women this time, there were smiling and professionnal and usual bit looked quite tired.

After a good take off, it took us about twenty minutes to reach an altitude over the clouds, impressing how thick they were- no problem for the GE90.

Quickly we had a drink with some good Fauchon cashew nuts and finally good real Champaign again !
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q133/marcus380/IMG_1294Large.jpg

Quickly the menus were distributed, and has started to use the IFE. I was quite surprised this time see that all the moovies (around 10 only) were all really "on demand" which was not the case on the trip in. I could pause, rewind etc...really practical. I watched "Evil dresses in Prada".
Time to choose dinner !

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q133/marcus380/menuCDG-EZELarge.jpg
classical menu
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q133/marcus380/menuCDG-EZEwineandday.jpg
Plate of the day menu so as beverage cards (the win card is the same as on teh trip in).

As usual, I choosed the Foie Gras which of course I accompagnated with Champaign, this time it was at a perfect temperature. The camarelaized apple was a good choice for a nice sweet and sour taste. The main course, teh Chciken Brest in Parmesan crust was fantastic, I took bordeaux with that which would also well fit to the cheese.
I like the way the tables are dressed with the white cloth and the classical dishes like in a nice parisian restaurant -felling already home...-

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q133/marcus380/IMG_1295Large.jpg
The main course, the cheese abd the rest...

Again I drunk to much, so I even skip dessert, and tried to get a small sleep. I really felt bad, went to rest room drank some water, went back to my seat and close my aeyes, two hours later I felt better !
So, I went to the Buffet Bar where I took some orange Juice (no champaign this time !) and took some delicous petits fours.
I went back to my seat, watch a moovie and played the classical Air France quick which seemed to be updated

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q133/marcus380/IMG_1300Large.jpg
The AF Quizz...

Around an hour and half before landing the Breakfast service began. I choose the Pancake. It was again very good especially with Praline Duce. The croissant was hot and tasty, it was a very good breakfast.

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q133/marcus380/IMG_1301Large.jpg
My neighboors breakfast choice

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q133/marcus380/IMG_1302Large.jpg
My breakfast choice...

After the breakfast I quickly went to the restroom, hjowever I still had my tray, so I had to bring to the galley which the FA did not appreicate very much because the were still serving breakfast in the rear part of the biz class, however he remianed very kind (normal!) and I could avoid the morning rush hour to the lavatory !

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q133/marcus380/IMG_1303Large.jpg
Soon above France !

We had a south west approach and were happy to hear that the temperature was very smooth for the season around 20°. There was a call for a doctor in the cabin, two people from the bizz class stood up and went to the front, in fact it was an hostess who felt really bad ! This is why the crew was nervous in the end of the flight. However jsut before landing I could see here in the front (certainly coming out ohf the crew rest bunk), stabding up and going to the jump seat close to the exit.

The landing was fine, but as usual in CDG the rolling was really long, we arrived at 2F instead of 2E planned ! (maybe be because of the sick hostess)
It took us 15 minutes to wait for a gate ! At leats we did not take a bus !

to be continued....

good bye F-GSPT ! Watch the construction of terminal 3s in the rear

IN CONCLUSION
- The AF C Class is really very good in terms of food, beside a cold Foie-Gras no reproach could be made (as a french guy believe me I am very demanding!), so were the beverages, the wine choice, the Champaign and cognac.
- The crew was very professional, but I would have expected some more smiles ans care. They remain very professional.
- However the seats in C were comfy, it is time to change to the NEV, when we see what SIA is going to propose in biz ! I hope they will also improve the onboard video. I checked htem on the NEV to SIN, the Rockwell system is really bad.
- I will get 2x10338 miles on my flying blue account plus 3 446 bonus on the return trip because in the meantime I jumped to Elite Silver grade and that's cool ! However they credited me the in-bound trip with only 6 892 miles, as a regular Y class ticket ! So I had to send my boarding card to correct that.
- TAM is a quite good company, clean planes , mostly on time, nice crew, the food just needs to improve. Maybe better on the A320's.
- Southamerica is cool because the controls are quick, the check-in easy, the security measures are OK.
- CDG has to improve, I hope that when T3S is finished and 2E repaired, things will work better !

I hope that you all liked my first report, the next one will be CDG-NRT-CDG maybe with a surprise...

Thank you again for another insightful trip report and a shot of the Igauçu. It looks disappointing though. I thought there would be more water than that.

Now that's an honest, unbiased Frenchman. CDG is not very welcoming--drab and dark arrival zone, especially in 2E and 2F. But as you said, hopefully, with T3S and 2E and Terminal 1 done and renovated, CDG will shine once more.

AF female FA´s are cute in their new uniforms huh? I bet they drive many men nuts with their teeny tiny belt or red ribbon highlighting the waistline.

QUESTIONS:

1. Do you know by any chance how does FA rotation works on this route CDG-EZE-SCL? Do they have a stopover in Buenos Aires or do they continue all the way to SCL? I've always wanted to find that out but didn't dare ask the last time.

2. Have you ever visited AF arrival lounges? I've seen it advertised but don't actually know where they are or how accommodating.

Thanks again.

KuhnRyeroam,

Q1: It is funny that you ask that because, I asked the question to the cargo people. In fact the crew stay 3 days in BUE but, the have to do one rotation EZE-SCL-EZE during this journey. SO two days rest and one local rotation.

Q2: I never tried the arrival lounges, because I want always to go home quickly when I arrive in Paris.

Yes I like the AF Female FA to, beacause they are often nice and attracting with their skirts. AF has physicla requirements for hostesses: there is mini and max weight so as a mini and max height.

By the way, your report was good to !!

Great report I shall be using TAM in December from LHR-GRU-EZE so looking forward to that.
Used to use Air France to EZE usually in Economy but got upgraded once and enjoyed the service. My only criticism was the crew could sometimes be a wee bit cold at times, but they are good at their job.
Interesting to hear that AF shall stop doing the Santiago extra leg from EZE and make it a route on it's own.

the arrival lounge is in 2C. It's nice and very appreciable. I use it frequently when I arrive from long-haul flights before going to the office, as my office is just 10 min drive from CDG. My only whish is that AF should open a similar lounge at 2E, 2F (and 2A ?) to avoid to go to 2C if it's not your arriving terminal
