Hey everyone!

Well finally had the chance to try First Class on Emirates so allow me to share my experience with you. As always your comments are most welcome and appreciated.

The first 4 replies are also part of the report as I wasn't able to post it all together

Emirates
EK407
From: AKL-Auckland New Zealand
To: MEL- Melbourne Australia
Aircraft: Airbus 340-500
ETD 1850
ATD 1900
ETA 2050
ATA 2106
(All times local)

At about 11am I used the Emirates online check-in. I wasn't worried about a line at the airport but just wanted to get the 500 bonus miles and secure a window seat in the unlikely event the flight was a little full. At the time it was indicating it was the last window seat available 3A - all windows seats and 2 middle seats were taken. Why it showed so many 'occupied' seats is a mystery to me as there was only 4 passengers in First.

Online ticket receipt

At the airport there is a dedicated line if you have checked in online however I continued to the First Class counter where I was next to be checked in.I was given an invitation to the Emirates Lounge. Next to the check in counters first and business class passengers are pre-cleared for customs and therefore can use the 'Pre-Cleared' lane at the departure area. The airport was very busy so certainly saved me from long queues and gave me more time to enjoy the lounge. The Emirates Lounge at Auckland is very nice with a good selection of alcoholic, non alcoholic drinks, hot and cold snacks.

Boarding commenced at 1815 with a dedicated line for First, Business, Skywards Gold and Silver passengers.

Today's aircraft

The Emirates Trio - One to Brisbane, one to Sydney and one to Melbourne

Once I reached the aircraft I was taken by a crew member to my seat 3A, my larger bag wouldn't fit under the seat so they stowed it up the front. She also asked what drink I would like when she returned. I thought it would be rude not to have a class of Champagne so kindly asked for some.

A glass of Dom Perignon

Soon after she returned with some snacks to eat

Amenities

She then came around with headsets, slippers and eye shades

Noise canceling headset

Remote for basically everything - entertainment, lighting, seat positioning etc

There is plenty room to stow bags and items in the suite

In-seat mini-bar

The view in front

Air-bridge retracting

Arabic coffee offered with dates prior to push-back

The wine list and menu for today's flight as well as the Melbourne-Dubai sector

Presented in a beautiful leather folder.

With the doors closed the safety demo commenced. It plays fully in english then again in arabic. It felt like it was going on for ever.

Well after all that food and drink I felt bloated to say the least.

During my meal I watched 'Just My Luck' with Lindsay Lohan - I had seen most of the other movies available even with such an extensive selection. After that movie I watched Family Guy.

The First Class cabin

The seat fully reclined...

..with the privacy doors closed

Entertainment controls

The weather wasn't the best in Melbourne and was quite bumpy during decent. Being that this is only a digital camera it doesn't capture night video very well so I filmed the landing from the front camera view.

After disembarking I was first to customs and immigration and my bag was one of the first to come through.

Overall - I was very very impressed. The service provided by the crew was outstanding and the quality of all the products from the seat to the food was of a very high standard.

But there is more to come - I'll be posting the return sector soon

Thanks for reading  Smile

Great report!! Thanks for sharing... That First class suit sure looks comfortable. It would be a great experience to fly between SY-DXB or MEL-DXB. The ICE is so good, you just can't get enough of it!!!

How is the climb performance of the 345 compared to 343? (That is of course if you ever flew the 343  Smile )

Weight restrictions maybe?

Soon after she returned with some snacks to eat

It surprises me they just bundle kit kats, pringles etc into a basket like that considering the rest of the catering.

Anyway, lovely report, looks like a fantastic report,

I guess Emirates really puts most carriers to shame with this fantastic product! I agree - the chicken looks terrific. As does everything else. I quite like the idea of an individual coffee press - very impressive.

Thanks for such attention to detail. It's most appreciated!

Wow, what an amazing way to fly. And the food looks great!
Normally I'm not very fond of interiors with lots of gold, wood and white in it (= 'kitsch'), but this is by far one of the best F-classes in the sky.

Thank you for this tripreport  Smile

wow mate!
great job! I always love the EK first reports!
I had been hoping that SQ would come out with a suite that is even better then EK's because I might get the chance to fly with them next year or so, but I guess I'll either have to just have to fly Emirates or wait and see if SQ comes out with a completely different product for the A380.

once again great photos... what type of camera were you using?
Also where is Ek's lounge in AKL? I was just flying out of AKL on monday with Qantas and i can't recall ever seeing the EK lounge up there.

also the food looks amazing! from start to finish Emirates takes the cake when it comes to First class!

As you come down the escalators from the Qantas/Air New Zealand lounges it's on the right side as you go to the left for the gates.
