Last month, I flew Lisbon-Minneapolis on TAP and United. My account of the trip is now on Airways Magazine's website's "Coach Flyer" section - here's a link to the article:

Hi!
Beeing a portuguese and been in USA only a month ago using the same "blend" (TP + UA) I understand very well your words. I flew LIS/AMS with TP and AMS/IAD/LAX with UA and my first problem was that TP check-in counter was having an hard time to find my reservation. Then the "around LIS airport by bus" issue is getting more and more cahotic!!!! I did that wonderfull trip too to board our A321, the only difference was that when you were waiting to board looks like the weather was acceptable, but with me, my wife and young daughter it was badly rainning!!! Portugal needs urgently to move LIS to a new location indeed!!! UA service was quite good too, I also listened to Channel 9 and I flew in N774UA, although one of the first 777 built the plane looked great. Anyway good report and I hope to put mine soon so we can compare!!!
Regards

Quoting DALelite (Reply 3): Good trip report. But honestly, didn't you know that most US carriers charge for the booze?
Yes, I knew that US carriers charge for liquor.
I chose this routing mainly because I've never flown on an A310, and I wanted to add one to my logbook before they're all retired.
If I hadn't wanted to fly on an A310, I would have flown TAP LIS-EWR, on the A330, so I could enjoy some great complimentary Portuguese wine
