This Trip report is a continuation of my MAN-ATL report...

http://www1.airliners.net/discussions/trip_reports/read.main/85077/

Once again I apologise for the lack of pictures, this was due to the ban of electronics.

14th August 2006

We arrived into ATL about 5PM local time.
Well, I was in ATL... I got my bag from the baggage carousel, after waiting a good half hour at least! I took it through customs, and to the baggage drop... This part was all a bit of a blur. I really wasn't sure what to do, because there was one man just grabbing bags from people, while others queued up to check in again! I ended up just handing the man my bag!

So... 5 hours to kill in ATL, the adventure began! After hearing about ATL's underground train system, I was eager to try it out. I didn't know where to go so I guessed I'd try out 'T', the main terminal building. The trains were like bullets! Very nippy! This was a convenient way to get around, better than walking anyway!
So I arrived at 'T'. I hopped off the train and went up the escalators to the main terminal area. Grabbed some water, sweets and paid a visit to the 'restroom'. By this time, my flight was showing up on the board, 'On Time'! Great! I made my way towards security... One thing that everybody else had, I didn't... My Boarding Pass!!!

So I drag myself back to the check in counters, stand in the queue. A Delta employee asks me whether he could be of any assistance, I tell him that I need to get my boarding pass. He quite 'rudely' told me that I should have got it from the machine (First time flying with an E-ticket) I told him, "Hey, come on, I haven't done this before", he simply printed off my boarding pass and walked away shaking his head. A few words ran through my mind which wouldn't be appropriate here.

Anyway, Security... I could go through this time! I passed through without a hitch, and there were no queues. However, an airport employee thought he was above us PAX and tried to go around the security check, the TSA guys were having none of it! Big grin This guy argues for a minute or two, before the TSA man told him to go through or not go through at all.

I don't really remember but I believe my flight to FLL went from Concourse C. Whichever one it was, I got the train there. I looked for a food place as I was pretty hungry by now. Found a place that did cheese steaks so I bought myself one, sat down by the windows and watched the ATL baggage handlers ruin some bags! They really don't give a sh!t!!!

I just browsed shops and walked around for a while after...

Sat myself at the gate, there was a rather manky old DL 757 sat there, and I was pretty sure I was going to get a Song 757. To my delight, a 757 pulled in about 5 minutes after the previous 757 left Big grin Big grin

I plonked myself in the Gate area and watched the ground operations crew do their jobs. Once it was the scheduled time to board, The gate agent put an announcement over the tannoy informing us that neither pilot had turned up yet... ok... And they couldn't board us because it was too hot or something and they couldn't switch on the Air Con. Bah, whatever!

Eventually one pilot arrives and we can start boarding. Once I handed the gate agent my boarding pass, he asked the usual questions asked because I was in an exit seat.

DL 358
ATL-FLL
Scheduled Departure time: 10.43PM
Actual: 11.35PM
Scheduled Arrival time: 12.08PM
Actual: 12.54PM

I'm not sure of the reg of the aircraft, but if anybody can help me out...  bigthumbsup

So I had my first ever Exit row seat! It was great to have all this legroom after being on that 763ER over the pond!
I really liked the interior of this aircraft, the different colours gave it a very modern and 'fun' look!

We pushed back and taxied towards the runway, we were at the rear of a rather long line! Anyway, after a while, we were next, we turned onto the runway. After a few seconds of stillness, the engines roared into action and propelled us down the runway. Once we were through 10,000Ft, the PTV's were switched on and I was able to play with the system. What an awesome IFE system!!! Big grin I really was impressed by the Live TV and the trivia thing where you can play against other passengers!

We were given a drink and a snack, which I thought was quite nice! Got a glass of coke and some weird bacon flavoured flat crisps. The rest of the flight was uneventful.

Once into our descent, we flew out towards the sea and came back on ourselves, flying over FLL port. The pilot did not land at his first opportunity, he took the aircraft to about halfway down the runway then applied the brakes and thrust reversers for a quick and powerful landing. We taxied to to a gate, and because I was by the door, was one of the first off. I quickly made my way to the baggage claim where a chauffeur was waiting for me (arranged my relative I was staying with). A nice young guy. He walked over to the baggage belt with me and after around 10 minutes my bag came through, in one piece! Those ATL baggage handlers didn't get me this time!

I made it safely to my relatives house and had a great stay in the FLL sunshine!

Part 3 + 4 will come soon! Big grin

Thanks for reading!

Yes, I kid you not. I watched for about half an hour... they literally 'throw' them around. I was shocked!

Oh well, they're doing their job I suppose, not very well though...

Again awesome report for not having any pictures. And, lol, yet another reason to avoid checking bags if at all possible. BTW is the ATL underground train system outside of security or is it airside? I haven't had to use it since I usually don't fly DL (except BDL-LAX-BDL since it is the only non-stop) and when I have flown with a connection in ATL I've never had to change terminals or anything.

The train is airside. So you can't go to ATL just for a ride on the train  Silly
