I arrived at REC at 3:55 AM. There was no queue to check-in and I was immediately assisted by an friendly English-speaking TAM agent who checked me in with no problems. This is contrasted with the experience of my travelling companion who left REC the day before, when TAM’s computer system when down for an hour and caused his flight to CNF and GRU to be delayed by 3 hours. My brother and I went to Casa do Pão de Queijo for a farewell breakfast. After a heartfelt goodbye I headed through security at 4:35, where for some reason my flight was in final boarding so I had to hustle. As is standard on TAM flights I walked down the jetway and was greeted by the (hot) purser and captain. I never noticed how tight the TAM FA’s shirts were before this flight; it was a nice view.
I was seated in 8A on this 100% full flight and was amazed by what had to be 35 in seat pitch even though TAM crams 108 seats into their F100’s. We left on time, took of without delay, and was treated to a beautiful view of the Brazilian coast for the entire 2:35 min flight. 30 minutes into the flight we were served a small snack consisting of Crackers, Jam, a pastry, and cream cheese and two rounds of beverage service. I fell asleep after that (it was 5AM) and woke up around 20 minutes before landing. We landed 20 minutes early at Galeão, taxied to the gate. My bag came out around 15 minutes later and I beat off all of the people trying to sell me an inflated price taxi and caught a yellow cab to Copacabana for only R$32.
