You can check my onward journey here

This is the return leg from Trivandrum to Bangalore..

Sector : TRV (Trivandrum) - BLR
Carrier : IT
Flight No. : IT 2414
Aircraft : ATR-72-500
Registration : VT-KAE
Seat : 17F
STD: 2000
ATD: 2020
STA: 2130
ATA: 2155

Checked in @ the TRV airport well over 1.5 hrs before.. but unfortunately there was a huge line already at the counter and there was just a solitary counter for this IT flight!! Got my baggage scanned and got in line behind abt 12 people.

Luckily there were no other flights at tht time and the airport was otherwise deserted. As i was in the in line a group of 12 came upto the baggage screening with a seemingly huge pile of bags. However all of them decided to bring all those bags in as cabin baggage!! Some of the bags were way oversize for even a B7x7 or A3xx and this was an ATR. However the IT guys just let them in!!

i counted almost 50 heads in the waiting area this side and expected a full flight!! Security check had not been called in so waited landside. Bumped into sm colleagues who werev travelling on the same flight..

Security was called @ abt 1900 hrs and I was the first in the line. the waiting lounge airside was absolutely empty as the last domestic flights had left more than 2 hrs before!!

the incoming flight had not yet arrived so expected our flight to be delayed. Sonn a 15 mins delay was announced. What made it look better was the 2 hr delay of the DN flight to BLR!!

Delayed..

At 2000 they announced boarding. All of us trooped down to the boarding gate for a bus. As IT do not hv their own equipment yet, they were using a DN bus. (On arrival they had used a S2 bus)

Unfortunately most of the tarmac was dark n deserted.. so no pics..

We were one of the last to board and it was utter chaos in side. The Load was 100% and almost every body had got in oversized cabin baggages tht just wudnt fit anywhere!! IT folks shud hv asked people to check these in, in the first place itself. Some of these bags had to go into the cargo hold, and there was a delay to get them tagged.

Took off in the northerly direction and were soon at cruising altitude. Since the flight left was at 2000 hrs, I was expecting a full dinner service. But i was in for the a very rude service!! Only snacks!! .. IC provides a full meal in the same sector, even though the journey time is less on their A320.

To top it, there was no non veg option.. its surprising tht a flight to kerala, where almost 80% of the pop. are non veg, there would be no non veg option!!

The food this time was as bad as the one in the inbound flight. It consisted of slices of potato masala sandwich, some weird chat with tamarind sauce and bhujiya, which tasted very odd. The saving grace was the dessert - raj Bhog in Custard , which was good. the coffee was bearable this time, probably coz i added xtra cream n sugar..

The "dinner"

Had a small nap after tht and soon we were descending into BLR. After landing we were taken to the maintenance wing, where ATRs were being deplaned!!

view of the cabin.. u can spot the pilot and a F/A at the Far end..

All the pax were stuffed liek sardines into an IT bus and taken to the arrival section. Didnt hv enuff space to take pics Sad

Baggage came in almost half an hr later!! The official reason due to traffic congestion on the tarmac!!

Overall IT has not been a good experience for me, atleast on this sector!!

Day after I am off to TLV (again) .. via DEL and VIE .. on 9W and OS (again!!) .. will put in a report on tht soon..

I'm surprised to see pictures since I know it is illegal in India to take pictures at the airport. The last time I flew to BLR on BA, the purser made an announcement that you are free to take pictures within the plane, but as soon as you are on the ground in BLR that no pictures are allowed of airport property. I'm guessing they find it a security risk.

Anyways, nice report. Indian carriers are a bit different than what I'm use to. They seem to always give food. US carriers would never serve food on an hour long flight. I guess options would be good, but it's nice to get something at all.

If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

Good report. Maybe IT is now cutting costs too to reduce their losses!

BLR might still qualify as a defence airport as HAL, ASTE and IAF use it extensively too.

If so, the same will hold good for PNQ.

Going by the food served, looks like IT are definitely beginning to cut corners on their much touted service. Maybe the mounting losses are beginning to bite.

Cheers

IT serves full meals only on A319/320/321s. On the ATR sector only snacks are served.

I travelled on MAA-BLR-IXE sector on Jan 26th. There was a change of a/c at BLR. On both legs, the light snack served was exactly the same.

An airplane might disappoint any pilot but it'll never surprise a good one.

What's with the only veg option? I would have thought IT would cater to a wider taste range given their 'top rung' claims?

Cheers  confused

Great follow up report, thanks.

Not sure about those snacks, they don't appeal to me at all!

I guess Indian carriers hv spoilt us tht way!! If this was on a domestic flight in US or within Europe, I wud hv expected nuthin more than a cold sandwich or a bag of peanuts/pretzels!!

Yep photography at BLR is prohibited. I was informed of this by an IT chap just b4 boarding. At BOM and DEL there are no issues now, similarly at TRV (although it is used by IAF for its Southern Command, no defence aircrafts are stationed there) BTW I think TRV has one of the best spotting locations in India.. ne body been there?!

That came as a shock to me too, esp. considering that like most Keralites, I am a hardcore non-veg!!

Thts sad.. 9W serves good food on its ATR sector. The breakfast served on the early morning ATR flight from BOM to BLR is very good!!

BTW was going thru wiki and it stated tht IT wud be the first airline to provide inflight entertainment in ATR. But going by other TRs here n my own experience tht doesnt seem to be the case. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATR
