Your Biman trip report was great, this PIA one was just as good. Always nice to read reports about the less common
carriers on here. Keep 'em comin'.

I meant to leave a comment when I first read this report but got sidetracked. The report was great - few words but the photos and captions portrayed the experience brilliantly. I'm glad you got the jumpseat for landing - what a perfect way to finish the flight.
The B747-200 Combi has been on my own wish list for a while now too - especially having already sampled a PIA B747-300 last year from KHI to ISB.
As I am working in ISB next week I have been looking at a number of interesting flights to take at the end of my trip and have settled for ISB-BKK on the -200 Combi. Timing is perfect - it departs the morning after my training finishes and it may give me the opportunity to try for a flight on a B747-100/-100SUD with Orient Thai out of BKK. The price on PIA is reasonable too:
USD352 ISB-BKK Economy Plus
USD318 ISB-BKK Economy
For the small difference in price it would be a waste not to take Economy Plus and sample those nice seats on the upper deck.
Many thanks for sharing your experience - having seen this I now know my experience will be a good one.

Ian, the Y+ seats are exactly the same as Y, same leg room (a bit tight 31 pitch) but you get the exclusive upper deck on the 200s. I have no idea why PK making Y+ leg room same as Y......
Have a great flight. Do you mind to tell us any other A/C is high on your want list? After Biman D10 and PK 74M my list is drying up...it would be good to see what others list are.
Later this year I will do a SU IL9 via Moscow to Europe.

Quoting N178UA (Reply 30): Have a great flight. Do you mind to tell us any other A/C is high on your want list?
Well, like you the ones at the top of my want list have recently been accomplished, but a few others still spring to mind:
B747-100
I am thinking Orient Thai/One-Two-GO, but they have -200s and -300s in the fleet too and I guess it is pot luck as far as trying to get the -100/-100SUD goes. I will not be trying on this next trip to BKK due to times and schedules but I can certainly try sometime in the next few months.
There is Iran Air with EP-IAM, but again it is a one-off in a fleet of -200s so it is pot luck.
There is also Saudia but that would be the last option on my list. Also, they are now retiring them and it would be difficult to guarantee a -100.
B747SP
There is a great route about to start with Iran Air for this type that I have got my eye on - THR-DAM-CCS! I am planning a short work trip to DAM in early May and am trying to arrange it so that I can jump on this weekly flight the next morning. Otherwise, I can try the likes of PEK-NRT to catch this bird with IR.
BAC 1-11
All but impossible. Any ideas anyone??
IL-62
I know you have this one under your belt already and that there are still some opportunities. I think the most desirable for me would be Cubana on the likes of the Havana-Santo Domingo run.
There are several more but we can discuss that another time I'm sure! Yak-40/42, Tu-134, B727-100, BAe 146-100, DC9-10/20....

Fantastic trip report. Thank you for including the awesome videos from the cockpit. It's great to see reports from "less common" airlines. Looking forward to your next reports. By the way, I'm a huge fan of your photos!

Hi Ian
I think your best option is with OX provided you have time in Bangkok and check with their operations.....
For OX 747s, best try BKK-HKG. As domestic flights in Thailand are mostly run by the MD82 unless they merge several flight at last minute notice for a B747 run.
HS-UTD is very active, it is a B747-100 pure version.
They have 2 B747-100SUD ex JAL those looks just like B743 I flown them in 2004 in Okinawa with JAL.
For B747SP, yes THR-DAM-CCS is an attractive option. EP-IAB was retired in 2004 but called back to service, I am unsure what kind of maintenance they done on this old bird. You're pretty much guaranteed to fly a B747SP with IR either Beijing or the new route. Or with Syrian Air sometimes they do DXB-DAM... DAM-LON
Bac1-11 That's hard. in 2003 I was fortunate flown Nationwide Airline in South Africa. Quite unique...
IL62...Air Koryo, Interavia, Dalavia fly them on schedule flights. I think Moscow to Magadan route is still running with IL6. I was suppose to fly Magadan Avia IL6 in June 05 but a week before my tour they went bankrupt.....so we flown kras Air ILW instead.
Have you flown a B747-300M (74D)? Air India operate them always BOM-DEL-BKK-NRT run.
My list are down to
IL18 never flown
IL96 never flown but this should be achievable.
perhaps few more rides on Tu134.....
The Western type of A/C I am very very specific and down to the carrier+ A/C details... like it must be Biman DC10 but not Northwest D10.....so far not much on the wish list.....perhaps Egypt Air B777 somewhere or Air China A330 to Tibet
If you have time, feel free to drop me an email. perhaps we can meet to do flights in the future too.

great report sir..... wonderful
Sam & Ian,
I was very fortunate, to have just returnred from Iran, and managed to fly the following
EPIAH B747-286BM IRAN AIR
EPSHU B707-3J9C SHAH AIR 3 times
EPIRT B727-286Adv IRAN AIR
EPIBS A300B2 IRAN AIR
EPMCH TU154M IRAN AIR TOURS
EPEAJ TU154M ARIA AIR
EPIAB B747 SP-86 IRAN AIR
So you see, your wish list is available pretty close to home.
The SP has just come out of a "D" check and is in remarkable shape.... almost brand new inside,....almost..
Your list's of "need to fly" are very similar to my own...
still looking for everything russian except the 154..
and at present trying to find out if the il18 still flies out of the UAE to anywhere...

Hi Shabaz. Nice report but you should create a new thread for this. I think most regular trip report readers have already seen this nice report of Sam's so they are unlikely to know your new report is hidden here.
Hope you are well and thanks for sharing your pics.

Wow, what an interesting report from such an interesting airline, deffienatly rare to see a report like this. They must have really liked you to take all the food out again and letting you into the cockpit in flight is something you would never get from an american airline.
