This was my first time in QR First class
Upon arrival in DOH from KHI((j class- only 2 class configuration) We were taken to the Premium Class terminal at DOH. I was driven to the 340 in a 7 series BMW. My only complaint for DOH in general is that that they dont have airbridges and the planes are so far fro the terminal that the busrides can be upto 15 mins long.
I had previously been QR J class and while I was VERY impressed with the service, as well as general comfort, I found that when the J class seat with in full recline(at a bit of a slant)I found myself sliding down somewhat, so it was qite uncomfortable for sleeping. This time around I was beautifully surprised. I was sitting in 2A. The F class cabin in QR is 2 rows of 4 abreast in a 1-2-1 configuration. There were 6 of us on board. My seat is actually like a private suite and what i absolutely loved was the fact that i had a massive storage bin within my seat area to store my very large rollon..without having to reach up to the overhead. This is probably the most amount of storage offered on any airline. In the upright position the legrest also serves as a little seat for a friend to come in and chat with you. Also, behind tthis cabin, they have a beautiful mini cabin with a bar, a breakfast table for 2, and a very comfortable sofa to sit and have a chat. This minicabin is like a very intimate and comfortable cafe, with an FA dedicated to the bar area. Service on the flight was absolutely unbelievable. Each FA came and introduced themselves to me..for a cabin filled with 6 people there were 4 FAs. Service was personalised and by name, the chief purser came by about 4 times during the 7 hour flight, this is aside from the other FAs who were around constantly, offering either dates and nuts pretaeoff with champagne, making my bed(with mattress and sheets) of multiple trips for food service and constant topping up of drinks. Champagne flowed nonstop, Food was very good 90/100 , though I wouldnt call it outstanding. The simpler sandwiches were delicious as was the soup, though some of the other oferings were a bit too fancy and very good though not spectacular at FL370 (Not enough caviar! though I confess thats a minor complaint, and was just my own expectation).
I have a problem sleeping on planes and once the FA converted my seat into the very comfortavble bed I managed to sleep about 4 hours. Food service in F is on demand and mix and match, They give you an extensive menu and you can choose what you like whenever you want. IFE was great as well, with comfortable headphones.
All in all, best flight ever, However a few things i would change:
1. The cabin colors are very grayish...pretty cold...I like the warmth of an EK cabin, but EK is not a patch on QR in any other respect. Its a minor point I know but I do get affected by color. but color aside the cabin was outstanding and the mood lighting was great. The cafe cabin is such a welcome break, its like being on your own biz jet, it doesnt feel like being on a plane and is a welcome break from the claustrophobia of seating, seating and more seating.
2. I really would like privacy doors for each minisuite like they offer on EK F class..its quite private but would be more so with those sliding doors(which are also pretty cool) It would also make for more comfortable sleeping.
3. For F class service on a top airline like QR, I do expect limousine service at LHR but they dont offer anything. Ek offers it for J and F.
4. I want my own tub of caviar(I'll probably get beaten for this)
I'm sticking with QR! 6/5 and miles ahead of Ek..which is the ony real competitor for convenience on the routes I fly kh-lhr and sometimes to GRU. If only there codeshare agreements were more convenient now that i live in London! I still have F class open return LHR-KHI sometime this year..looking forward to thata nd hope to continue flying it!

Awesome; these new mideast carriers sound like they are really giving the "traditional" Asian First Class airlines a run for their money. I wish the likes of QR and Etihad would make their way down to New Zealand (yes to join in the wishful thinking!) and operate routes to the mideast direct via Asia rather than Australia.

I have to agree, the grey does make the cabin seem less apealing. The "Greyness" is fine in Economy Class, but in the premium classes it is less appealing. QR could realy do with a makeover in the Premium cabins to make it more appealing to passengers, such as EYs colouring.

I have to agree once again. The premium seating (F/J) could do with another upgrade to standards somewhat similar to SQ's new Premium Classes and EKs First Class onboard the A345. The Economy class seating on the newer aircraft of the fleet (A330/A340) is top notch, although not as good as the new Y class onboard SQs 77W's.
