This is probably one of my shorter trip reports. This trip was done during the Chinese New Year weekends where I had to visit some relatives and also at the same time visit my branch office in Surabaya.

CGK-SUB
GA310
B737-300 - PK-GGU
ETD:1100
ATA:1144
ETA:1215
ATA:1259
Flight time: 1hr 15min
Seat:6F (Y)
Cruise: 32,000ft

Pre Flight
Left home at 9am for the 1100 departure to SUB, amazingly, traffic was good for a Friday rush hour traffic time in Jakarta. Since I was a GA FF Gold+ member, I used the Business class check-in at CGK. Got our preassigned seats (3 of us on the flight, with me, the wife and sis in law). It was a really crowdy day so I prepared everyone for a rough climb to cruising altitude (My sis in law hates flying ever since she was in a Lion Air MD 80 which had to make an emergency landing at SUB around 3 yrs ago due to 1 engine failure). Not much to do at the airport, although the new GA lounge is nice, we used the common use Platinum card lounge as a Gold GA FF member, you cannot bring any guests in. Spent some time at the lounge and managed to snap the photos below:

Once boarding commenced, I settled into my seat 6F which is the 2nd row in economy. Ok, I am seriusly not built for Y travel, remember how everyone call it cattle class, for me its more like filling an elephant into a cattle pen!! Within 5 mins of sitting in my seat, I decided I will upgrade myself for the return leg in 2 days time. Maybe I was also spoilt since my last 2 long haul trips were all done in C :P. Service on GA is always good and this B733 is still really well maintained. I browsed thru the inflight magazine which did not hold my atention for long, I then decided to rea a book I had brought with me ("Honk if you're Malaysian") really good read and funny too, I reccommend 9MMAR to buy this book!! Available at all good book stores in KL. I did not bother with the pathetic 'lunch box' which was given out by the airline so i only opted for some diet coke.

Help, an elephant stuck in cattle class!

The flight passed pretty quick and in no time we were in SUB, the delay was due to some stupid connecting passengers as usual. Other than that, another nice flight by GA.

Service:7/10
A/C:7/10
Food:0/10 (whats with that crappy lunch box!)

SUB-CGK
GA319
B747-400 - PK-GWQ
ETD:1400
ATD:1410
ETA:1515
ATA:1510
Flight time: 1 hr 3min
Seat: 1F (C)
Cruise: 29,000ft

Pre Flight
After paying my office in SUB a short visit on Friday afternoon, most of Saturday and early Sunday was devoted to visiting family because of the Chinese New Year holidays, we left the hotel with about 2 hours to go for our 1400 flight to CGK, and I did the best thing on Friday, went to GA office, managed to upgrade myself by paying IDR1,000,000. to C class, all this while leaving my wife and sis in law in Y. (Am i mean? eheheheh hey but a guy sometimes needs his space right?)

View from our hotel room at the JW Marriott

Room - pardon the mess as I just got up !!

The only main highlight of this trip was going into the new SUB airport for the first time (this is only the 3rd airport in Indonesia with actual aerobridges after CGK and DPS) but the design of the new airport is disappointing dark and gloomy, and when we arrived on Friday, the roof above the baggage claim area was leaking badly...welcome to Indonesia! And although only 3 mths old, the airport design is very 1970's-80's reminisent of Don Muang.
Check in was brisk and I was told this was a full flight both in C and Y as due to the light loads of many flight to CGK coz of Chinese New Year, most of the flights were cancelled and bundled into my flight. GREAT!!

With 10 mins to go before boarding we walked to our gate and I took this pic of the tarmac action, with the very 'safe' Adam Air ready to depart in the background

Again, nothing special with the male purser serving us C passengers alone. Service again was good on GA and personally I sometimes think almost as good as MH...note the word i used is 'almost'

Proper food instead of 'crap box'

Service:8/10
A/C:7/10
Food:5/10

Thanks again for reading guys...next trip report will be completed in 2 weeks, and its another long haul in F on TG to MAD w/ JK intra Spain.

A short trip report from you?!!! What a surprise.  tongue

Ha? Me? Why me? Is it about Malaysian's driving attitude?

On my last flight with GA, back in January 2006 on the PNK-CGK-PNK route, a full hot meal was served in Y. I was even being given a choice of meals, just like MH's "Trans South China Sea" domestic service. Are they have got rid of that as well? Maybe following the LCCs move (offering snack boxs) to cut cost. What a shame!

Quoting ThaiA345 (Thread starter):
with the very 'safe' Adam Air

Nice to see another adjectives given to Adam Air.

In my trip reports, I used the "sensational" Adam Air.
In Ryanair!!!'s reply in my trip report, he used the "scandalous" Adam Air.
Now in your trip report, you used the "safe" Adam Air.

Co-incidentally, all the adjectives begin with the letter "S". Hmmm... a "sign"?  scratchchin

Seems like a pretty average CGK SUB experience on GA. Actually, PK-GGU is one of the leased B733s and the interior is not so nice. The 733s that were originally delivered to GA (PK-GGG/N/O/P/Q/R) are much nicer. For your return, PK-GWQ is one of the B734s with the nicer interior, as are PK-GWK/L/M/N/O/P. Many of the other B734s, especially the dreaded PK-GZ* series, have old A300 seats in C that are very uncomfortable. PK-GZA and PK-GZC are to be avoided at all cost.

I have yet to come accross a non-leaking roof here in Indoland...

Actually, only one aircraft was taken out of the CGK SUB rotation cycle, making for 3 flights every 4 hours instead of the usual 4. The flights were not cancelled as such, but were announced as NOOPS a couple of months ago. Obviously, the flights immediately before and after the NOOP rotation fill up better in such circumstance. This NOOP cycle is not uncommon for SUB as on off peak days, the route really doesn't need 16 flights and can very well cope with 12. Very often the spare capacity is used to add SUB DPS sectors.

Think twice... GA's inflight catering doesn't even come in the vicinity of MH's, which is truly superb, varied and in abundant quantities. GA can learn a thing or two from MH about the inflight product. I've never come off a MH flight hungry, something which I can unfortunately not say of GA. At least the dreaded soggy sandwich has now disappeared from the CGK SUB shuttles and is being replaced by some pasta menu.

This I agree with you, but note, what I said was the service, nothing about the food!! eheheh The pasta i had in C on the return leg, well lets just say a 3 year old can do something much better!!

Just trust me and buy the book, or you want me to send you mine when I am done ? eheheheh very funny !!

Wel beleive it or not, Adam of Adam Air and his brothers are actually friend's of mine, they always offered me free fligths, but you know my polite answer to them is:
For SIN route, I always use SQ due to connection times and *A mileage
For intra indo, I always use Ga because I have many unused mileage on my GFF  Smile heehheeh

I thought it is the norm now on Indonesian domestic flights to have only those cute little snack boxes in YCL?

Great report. It seems kind of strange to have a normal domestic flight withouth the drama of disorganised chaos, fumbling ground staff, clueless FAs and crumbling aircraft. Then again, this is GA (or gay-ah... as the Indonesians pronounce it).

Great report, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

If you are having so much problems with the seating in YCL, does this mean you will be flying JCL/PCL all the way from now on? Hehehehe...

Hahah...well, luckily for all business trips I can use JCL/PCL all the way, its those little weekend getaways I sometimes take to Bali or KL that hurts if its peak season and I got to fork out for JCL. But KL is not so bad at KLm offer USD270 CGK-KULvv on World Business.

The only other time I would pay for my own JCL is of course on the longer getaways in December and during the 'Lebaran' holidays in Indo. Got to start using my *A points anyway  Smile ..got 330,000miles to claim eheheh ....70% thanks to company trips..and luckily the business is also family owned so I do not have to return the points to the company.

Out of curiosity, do a lot of cash-laden orang tionghua pay to fly all these half beat post-deregulation carriers? When I was on my last Lion flight, the passenger profile seem to be a bulk of pribumi passengers (middle class that can afford to travel) followed by the unsuspecting tourist (like me).

Hmm... JW Marriot is in Malang St. Is the GA office far from there? I guess you were THAT desperate to upgrade yrself huh? Hehehehe...

The last time I flew GA I was still in school. I remember those good old days when their netowrk stretched far and wide and covered a lot of destinations in continental Europe. A handful of them did their transits in Singapore and it was a pleasure to watch the GA 747s on a short hop from Jakarta.

The crew were always cheerful and full of... what the Malays here in the region call "mesra". Very welcoming.

At Surabaya domestic, in order to go the gates (several) , you have to walk down this very long, marbled hall and not a travelator in sight. At the international side, there are only 2 or 3 gates and yet there is a travelator in the hallway! I found that hilarious. Perhaps Indonesians are fitter than foreigners?

Normally domestic terminals are a watered down version of their international counterparts. Take Cengkareng for example, structurally similar for both sides but the domestic is only one level with little airconditoned areas.

sadly...most orang tionghua and ignorant about aircraft..all aspects of it to be exact. Like one of my director actually thought some of the older a/c although are old..but got new coat of paint, they think its new!!..so what did i do ...i thought most people especially those working for me in my office to just spot the old ones...mainly avoid all T tails and rear engines (MD's) and also for 737...the long skinny engines....are old ones !!! ahhaahh ...easy type of spotting for non experts...but to make things better for my staff...i just put down a mandate that domestic travel is only carried out by GA. All outbound...subject to my approval !!

actually GA main office in SUB is at Hyatt which is actually around the corner
